Well I hope that I can supress my biases as well and give strong consideration to the other side of the coin.

I'm here for the feast too. To all those that are claiming to NOT be Christians, His arms are outstretched for anyone that wants to accept Him. We can all change our minds like we all have already done with the Watchtower.

Wow...I can feel the love. I was on vacation. Nice to feel back at home here.
Did anyone even realize what the purpose of the "True" Christian thread was about? I was saying that you either are or your not. You can't prefix Christianity with true of false.
Some of you guys seem bitter. It's ok. I wasn't scared off by any of you.

Fundi vs. Fundamentalist - T/J
by Georgiegirl ini started following thread when it was first posted, got busy, and then came back it was 12 pages long...so i'm starting a new one.. last night in my psych of religion class (which is incredibly fascinating, btw), i learned this:.
"fundamentalism" is a 20th century phenomenon.
it means that the believer has boiled down his beliefs to 5 fundamental beliefs:.

I have read your sources, and they just don't add up. They seem to be written by non-christians. So of course they are going to state a very liberal view of fundamentalism. Your source said that a fundamentalist was on that believed in:
1. The virgin birth
2. The satisfaction theory of the atonement
3. The bodily resurrection
4. The miracles of Jesus
5. Biblical inerrancyBut that definition is required to include almost all Christians. Like BTS said, 90%.
It seems like you have a bit of a chip on your shoulder. I wasn't trying to have a heated debate but to speak with reason. You can send me websites all you want. But that doesn't make them reasonable.
you will see that inerrancy didn't mean everything in the bible was taken perfectly literall
Um...when did I say that inerrancy meant that everything in the Bible was to be taken perfectly literal? It sounds like I touched a sensitive spot on you and you can't handle it. Sorry. Thought we could talk rationally.

For the majority of Christianity, it is not open to debate, TD. The denial of Christs propitiatory sacrifice is not a historically biblical belief. Of course there are going to be people that believe what they want about Christianity. But the idea that Jesus did NOT die for our sins is not upheld in the Bible.
In 1 Cor. 15:3-4 Paul writes, "For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures."

Will you really accept it?
If you give me a credible source, Yes.
what it originally meant
From WHO? If you are in college and learning critical thinking skills then you need to not do we all did at the Kingdom Hall. Where is his source?
Many Muslims are called "fundamentalists" in today's pop culture and they certainly do not believe in that Jesus died for their sins.
And that is my point. But there ARE fundamentalist Muslims.
The point is, if you want to have a very liberal definition of fundamentalism, then you can inlude EVERYONE that holds to a belief system and believs it to be correct.

he was teaching fact
If you can find that offical definition that he gave you in a respectable place and not just a quote, then I'll accept that. But I wasn't saying that your professor was INTENTIONALLY being dishonest. I was saying that it would have been MORE honest to define "fundamentalist" as something that could be documented. I haven't found a definition that fits his.
I don't know your professor. I wasn't judging him. But if someone is wrong, I'll say that they are wrong.
You also said,
I think you ARE a fundamentalist in the original sense of the word.
What original sense of the word? Do I believe that EVERYONE must believe as I do? Do I believe the Bible is inerrant? Yes. Do I believe the ENTIRE Bible is to be taken literally? No. So what original sense?

So I asked my female coworker what she was doing this weekend............
by miseryloveselders inbut her reply made me so very envious.
you know my mother always would tell me, "wordly people aren't really happy.
" as a kid that always bugged me because i figured if people are laughing, smiling, and generally having a good time, they must be happy.

You're a good guy, misery. I've said it before...but I wish I had an elder like you in my hall when I was growing up. You're a pretty cool guy.
But don't wish for NO conscience. Just wish for a strong conscience. Paul said that those that were easily offended were the ones with a weak conscience.
Maybe someday we'll get to hang out. I'll show you a good time, and you won't even feel guilty in the morning!!!
