Friends of Bill W. W Must Stand for WTF?
by Malsonilla ini keep crossing paths with people who are in recovery, that is, recovering from drug and alcohol addiction.
these folks regularly attend alcoholics anonymous and narcotics anonymous meetings and are all somewhere in the process of working the 12 steps of recovery.
the organization denies affiliation with any legal entity; a blatant deception, a lie they tell new ones and each other at each and every meeting.

Again Jeff T thanks for more false dilemmas.
AA doesn't necesarrily eliminate drunk driving deaths. Obviously those people driving drunk are not working the program are they? So AA has no to little bearing on the outcome. Eliminating cars or alcohol would reduce drunk driving deaths, that is logicial. No Cars or No Alcohol = No Drunk Driving.
I am not here to stand in anyone's way that wants to get help or even somebody that is getting helped by AA. Just don't tell me it isn't a cult. I could not say what I really believe and remain in AA without being hounded, harassed or shunned. Don't believe me, try it. Go in, get a sponsor, tell him half of that paragraph in the blue book is bad science and false. See what happens, that's what I did. My desire to not drink had not changed so why was I treated differently just because I could prove some statements an old drunk made in his personal manifesto were false? Answer: Because I wasn't playing nice and falling in line = CULT!
Now, as far as getting help. Sure there are some people that find the peer pressure of their AA cult helps them stay sober, so be it. It's their life and if they feel they are the better for it then OK. This is the argument my JW father uses on me when I peg him on the screwed up JW logic and theology. He will finally say, well if it wasn't for the JW's I would be divorced...in jail... a drunk... unemployed... a bad father.... whatever you wish to insert. And knowing my father, that might very well be true! Doesn't mean JW's are not a cult.
I would recommend reading as much modern literature written by actual doctors on the biological and psychological components of addiction. We know more today based on actual science than we ever did before. Then you might be able to see if you are willing to look honestly at yourself how you sabotage yourself over and over again with out even knowing it. Also, looking for other causes like: social environments, culture, anxiety, mental illness, etc.... is a big part of it.
Simply forcing me to admit I have a "allergic reaction" to alcohol is laughable and insincere in 2012. What are you going to tell me next that God left a few old dudes in Brooklyn in charge of saving his entire creation with their magazines and mind numbing lectures?
Good luck to anyone struggling. Just be honest with yourself and open to the answers no matter where they lead you. And there certainly is nothing wrong with simply abstaining from alcohol until you find out what is going on regardless of how long it takes to figure it out one way or the other. That is logicial. Do no more harm....

Wha Happened: The false dilemma being used it exactly the same types of false dilemmas the JWs use.
Everyone has to find their own way to happiness and sanity. Having to say I believed that my body processed ethyanol different than someone else's when that is completely false according to science was more destructive to me than drinking because of my experience as a JW.
Eventually, I learned enough about myself enough to realzie my anxiety attacks most of which are hereditary and have nothing to do with any character flaws or lack of morality are easily treated with a small dose of clonzepam every few days or as needed. All of the suddenly, I could have A beer and go home, or I could attend a party and not get wasted and make tons of bad decisions.
Everyone must find the answers to their own unique problems in life. AA is just like the JWs because it doesn't help you find out the truth about yourself it only insist that your life was previously a mess because a lack of AA or Jah and will certainly fall apart once you begin to elimante AA or Jah from your life.
The truth is addiction is complex and often unique to the individual and a "one size fits all" mentalilty can only make you sober, but never recovered.

so i call aa and cult and i am threatened with destruction in a head on crash...i would say you just proved my point. here is the truth... no one gives a shit if you drink or not. some will care if you behave like an ass but in the end you either drink or not drink for yourself. not your sponsor, not your high power or whatever non sense.

aa is a cult. it has the same sucess rate as people that just quit drinking on their own or people that become jehovah witnesses. if you dont believe me go to an aa meeting, ask for a sponsor and start a big book study. they will start a jw type indocrination study with you complete with yellow highlighter and try and get you to believe a bunch of false psuedo science and dime story psychology. face the truth and the real reasons for your use which for most former jws is ptsd. it can be treated with anit anxiety medications. many find once the anxiety is treated the drive to use or drinkin a destructive manner leaves on its own.

I just watched "It's a wonderful life" for the first time....
by Cagefighter incagefighter has been a little down in the dumps as usual around the holidays, short days, lack of clear family status and plans for the pagan rituals like everyone else.
i have also been struggling with my belief or lack of in god and god letting idiots with guns run around while he does nothing for children dying of cancer hasn't helped either.
you can say, i have been in a extreme rationalists state of mind.. last week for my small group from church (the umc equivelent of the book study in jw land) we just decided to pop this little movie in the dvd player and light up the fire place.

Ironically, Giordano "A Christmas Story" always made the cut in my JW house... I read were someone else was talking about how there were some movies that were allowed mysterious and others that were not.
Kurtbethel, Unfortunately I was exposed to the Color version which I thought was OK enough. I was surprised by how much I related to the story. Feeling stuck in your hometown, drinking too much, having to struggle financially because you are the cut throat douce bag like Potter. It's just one of those movies that spoke to me because of where I am in life.
I think some people think helping anyone is socialist these days.

Kinda.... The theme would be sumed up as "A man with friends is never a failure". I guess with the editing software avail they could take out the Xmas stuff and and make the Angel drone on about field service for a JW friendly version....LOL

Last week for my small group from church (the UMC equivelent of the Book study in JW land) we just decided to pop this little movie in the dvd player and light up the fire place. The couple who's house we meet at just had their second child which is only about six weeks old. I got to hold her and it kind of warmed up this cold rock in cagefighter's chest called a heart.
I just finished the rest of the movie tonight since I am stuck home being sick. No one in my group could believe I never saw the movie. What a great movie, even though I am not too keen on Angel's and God today it was a great story for what it was. Great acting, great writing....So sad all the cool stuff you miss out on as a JW.
