Flower, I am so happy you have found this place and are starting your healing. Besides Ray's books, read some of Scot Peck's books; Road Less Traveled, People of the Lie, for starters. I know you will enjoy yourself here. It's great not to feel alone in the world. Lots of great people here who are willing to listen. j2bf

To: Ex-JW Women - Your Side
by Amazing inex-jw women: i, and i assume other ex-jw men, would enjoy hearing your views, opinions, feelings, analysis, and conclusions about your jw experience.
how did you feel about your husband, fathers, brothers, elders, ms's, and other women in the organizations?
did you generally feel oppression, and why?

Thinkers wife,
I always envied people who rode the short bus to school, now I know why; "I always say that in general life is easier for people of lower intelligence. In and out of the JW's. Why? Because they just don't get it and don't care. Just doesn't affect them." lol I keep hoping alzheimers will set in so I can have fun in life! :) (please no offense by those who are truly suffering from alzheimers, my hats off to you and your families for coping with such a destructive disease)

I didn't read the site, but have known since my childhood that Eishenhower's mother was a jw. But the first question that came to mind about your list is how could Dwight be holding a NWT when he was sworn in when it wasn't published until the early to mid sixties?
jws used the American Standard Bible before then. j2bf -

Thank you Amazing for asking that question. Unfortunately, the old jw attitudes are somewhat prevalent on this board that the women’s opinions tend to be overlooked.
Growing up a jw conditioned me to the men dominated mentality. Even though we didn’t dress any different that the world, I felt at times I either was an Amish or now a Taliban woman without a face or voice in the crowd. Having been out in the work force for the last 14 years and dealing with professionals, it took me by surprised at first, that I was allowed to speak my mind and was respected for my knowledge, even looked upon as one with intelligence and solutions to problems, gender not being a factor at all.
So, yes, it was very hard to attend meetings and activities with the jws and have to revert into the submissive role when many of time a buffoon of a male took the lead or could voice his opinion like it was law and I had to dummy up. When I was young I always wondered why God gave me a brain if I wasn’t suppose to use it and now I know, he does want every individual to live up to their own potential.
Too bad the wtbts doesn’t recognize the wonderful assets some women (and men) posses and use them instead of just using : 1). Men 2). who’s available not who’s best to do a job. I’m sure there are plenty of men who were good speakers and organizers that were overlooked in the borg’s structure of things because they weren’t available, i.e. the use of pioneers, for assembly parts who couldn’t put a sentence structure together if they didn’t have a manuscript in front of them.
I’m looking forward to other women’s comments about their experiences with this male mentality. No wonder God said to look out for widows and orphans, he knew how men would twist things around and they would be left behind.
Just my 2 cents. Thanks for letting me share. J2bf -

End of Year 2001 - Conclusions Drawn
by Celtic inif there is one thing that i think that i have learn't this year, it is that people really do not give a shit about you, unless there is something in it for them to gain.
family?
they don't give a shit, they say they do, but when it comes to any real communication about feelings, you just get told to shut up, go away, not needed, useless, liar, your just making it up etc etc.. my old faith, jehovahs witnesses, do they care?

Hi Celtic,
I enjoy chatting with you in the chat room and wanted to comment on a couple of things that you have said here.
Sometimes when we give so much of ourselves, we get discouraged when we don’t see any like response. (Please don’t think this as being preachy, because it’s not how I want to come across. But I do want to let you know how I feel.)
After years of giving more to others, it finally hit me the point Jesus was making, to love others as yourself, AS YOURSELF! You HAVE to love yourself first before you can love others. If you are not really doing this, then you will get discouraged at your efforts to help others. Please make this New Year a time to really get to know who you are and learn to love yourself. You may think it is selfish on your part, but it really isn’t. If you are truly taking care of yourself first, helping others will fall into its proper place with its proper rewards.
The comment you made “No, I'm disappearing, I'm even closer to believing that death is a better solution than to carry on living this absurd madness” sounds like a cry for help to me. Please go see a counselor or someone you trust to help you. I don’t take lightly someone’s comments that death is a better alternative to life. You are so creative in your writings here on the board. It shows great thought and concern for others. Your humor is simply wonderful and makes me laugh many a time when things can be tense in the chat room. Please take time to look around you and see the things that you enjoy and concentrate on them. I’m sorry that physically are worlds are far apart, but I’m glad the “net” has brought us together as friends. You have a standing invitation to physically come visit me if you would like, I would love to have you here and listen to your wonderful insight on life. J2bf

Hi Freefall,
The emotions you are expressing in your posts maybe painful for you,
but through such emotions you can begin to grow and see what's really around you. Just because someone with good intentions lovingly talks with you, keep your head on and listen not with emtions but with reason. Search your Bible and see what's really there and what you believe in. Don't be swayed by the emtions of other, but look at the facts. There have been plenty of good responses for you to ponder over. Take time to let them sink in. Just my 2 cents. j2bf -

Hi rm215,
"Even in his current silence, he sets a fine example; we all would do well to leave our JW past in the past where it belongs, and move on."I agree. We alone are responsible for ourselves, our learning, our future and what we want it to be. j2bf
ps, sorry, spelling errors
