My husband replied to this by saying "they were just going to die anyway." I told him I didn't want to be in a world where 6.5 BILLION people (including children and babies) had to die just so I could be there. I would rather die too.

Mothers' Day and JWs
by XJW4EVR inafter my mom died, my aunts and i were going through her personal belongings for my dad.
late that night, in one of the last boxes we went through, i found a mother's day card that i had made for her when i was in first grade.
even though mother's day was a forbidden holiday, she kept that card for all those years.. i wonder, in spite of their surface indifference, how many jw mothers wish that they could participate in mothers day, at best, or resent it, at worst?.

That card must have been very special to your mother, it's nice that she kept it all those years.
I remember making a card for my Dad for Father's Day at school, but I changed it so it didn't specifically say Father's Day on it so it would be "ok." I still felt guilty, but even 20 years later my Dad still has that card in his desk at work.
Being a new Mom, I would love a day where I get a handmade card and maybe breakfast in bed! Without a special day to celebrate, people might forget to do something special for the ones they love. In my family growing up, we didn't do anything special for anyone.

Desilusionnee - All that "secular evidence" wasn't enough for my husband either. He felt the historians were wrong and couldn't be trusted. I agreed and wondered how we could be sure of any ancient dates...including 539. He didn't know why 539 BCE was considered an "absolute date" and said he would need to research that. Whether he will or not, I'm not sure, but I hope that little seed of doubt will germinate.

Room 215 - Hahaha, that explains it! I forgot about "Nevawuzzah!" Silly me...guess I haven't been keeping up with my magazines. ;)
Thank you for all your suggestions.
BlackSheep - I will see if my husband will make a King's list and look for evidence that the kings reigned for longer.
garyneal - And that's a great point about looking in an encyclopedia, just like we do for holidays to realize they are "wrong."
agonus - That is great! I was recently under the impression that one needed to be in "the organization" and go out regularly in the misitry to have a chance at earning salvation. How freeing it is!

Validity of 607 BCE date
by stevieb1 inhas anyone on here ever come across the tiniest shred of evidence supporting this date for the fall of jerusalem.
i understand rolf furuli is about to but something out on this subject (see elihubooks.com), however even a table of contents has been a long time in coming from this site.
if no evidence exists what can he possibly be writing about?

That's one reason why I want to/am in the process of leaving. The love simply isn't there. I dreaded going to meetings. The drama was too much, and the gossip was disgusting.
"Our Christian brother and sister are not mere passing acquaintances, superficial associates with whom we casually meet now and again. They are true friends, people we love and respect. We receive much joy and comfort by regularly assembling with them at our meetings.-Philem. 7."
The only real friends I've had were "worldly" people from school who had better morals than my witness friends. Too bad I cut off my association with them 10 years ago because I was trying to be a good girl and only associate with the superficial women in my hall.

by hereiam! insorry if this starts off as a kind of a downer.. i am 29, and my husband and i have stopped going to meetings since last october.
we live in mexico and used to attend the english.
long story short, after realizing how many much we've been lied to we stopped going to our meetings, moved out of the territory, switched to spanish, and after a month of attending just vanished.

Thank you for making this pretty easy to understand. I showed this to my spouse, and they had a problem with the wording of the Insight book which says:
" ***it-1p.453Chronology*** For Awil-Marduk (Evil-merodach, 2Ki 25:27, 28), tablets dated up to his second year of rule have been found. For Neriglissar, considered to be the successor of Awil-Marduk, contract tablets are known dated to his fourth year"
So because this may imply that these Kings could have ruled for longer because there could be other tablets, my spouse closed the case and thinks 607 is still correct. Any thoughts as to where I can go from here? Thanks!

Most people who are not JW's live with out moral restrain! All who have left the "Truth" regret it. June 15th WT
by life is to short inin the june 15th wt it says on page 9 i will just write it out as it is to hard and unbelievable to preface this.
so here it is.. "many who today are members of the christian congregation can tell you that before learning of and adopting jehovah's righteous standards, they lived without moral restrain.
yet, they were unsatisfied and unhappy.

All my friends who left are leading full, happy lives and feel FREE!!! I was still active at the time and remember thinking "free" sounded like such a dirty word. I didn't think we had the right to be free and actually enjoy ourselves.
