  i'd like to have a one-on-one online debate with an active jw.

  it doesn't have to be private.. anyone have any suggestions how i might arrange this?.

  Thinking about the "two witnesses" rule for disfellowshipping -

  it just occurred to me that very possibly the jws are violating their own rule of "two witnesses" to convict a member of sin.. they have also long held the rule that if a man and a woman spend the night alone, this is evidence of adultery - but are there really two witnesses to adultery?

  at the most, it would mean that there could have been two witnesses that they stayed under one roof for the night - not necessarily that they did the deed.

  i personally know of certain cases where people have been dfd on this kind of "evidence" even when they protested that no sex took place.. what it made me think about is the greatly restrictive rule on proof of child molestation - here it is practically impossible to obtain their standard of "two witnesses" - in this case, the witnesses have to effectively observe the actual act of molestation.. is this a double standard?

  leavingWT - absolutely! They invent the rules, change the rules, say the rules never existed . . . basically they do whatever they want in order to keep their company going. It is not about religion, it is not about God and certainly not about keeping children safe. It is all about them, their money, their power and control. Period.

  Pagan Origins

  so all of us that grew up as witnesses never did certain things because of them having pagan origins.

  why don't we celebrate christmas?

  Basically the WT has taken away people's FREEDOM to decide how to live and what to think. God created us as sovereign beings - not ones to be led by anything but our conscience. Romans 14 is a good chapter to read. We are not to judge as to what days people celebrate or don't or what others eat, etc.

  So you draw the line where others try to influence your right to do what YOU believe it right for yourself and for your family.

  "Knocking" website - comments in "Talkback" section...

  this is probably an old subject, but it's rather new to me.... i never got to see the "documentary", "knocking", but if others have, maybe you can identify with some of these comments - or with some of the protests also posted to the "talkback" feedback section on the site.... http://www.pbs.org/independentlens/knocking/talkback_e.html.

  the comments vary from eager approval to angry disclaimers... most of the positive comments come - naturally - from active jehovah's witnesses.... i found this person's comment - on page 15 - to be most bizarre.... 4/25/07.

  Hey MadJW - if you are going to mock someone make sure it's the right person! I'm not Kenneson! Poor Kenneson taking the heat for some of my zombie comments! The quotes about Jesus were from THE BIBLE. The bible says he was flesh and bone and that the mediator is the man Jesus Christ. Those are NOT my words! If you want to let a publishing corporation interpret what the bible says when it says that then by all means go ahead. I'm not interpreting anything I'm just quoting from it. As for who or what is in heaven - you can tell me FOR SURE once you go there and see for yourself. How do you know it's not a bunch of zombies? Have you been there? What do any of us really know FOR SURE about it? God is an infinite being and our minds are finite - there is only so much we can comprehend or know with ABSOLUTE 100% accuracy. The rest is OUR own reality and belief system. Oh but wait a minute . . . the dead members of the anointed communicate from heaven to the GB now so maybe you can ask them what it's like in heaven. Then you can look up the term necromancy and see how that fits into the picture too.

  One thing you and all other active JWs seem to forget: All of us who no longer believe the WTS interpretation of the Bible KNOW the teachings we came from! You are trying to convince us BACK into where we came from! We now see that where we came from is WRONG - why would we want to back to it? The WT loves the scripture: Ones who leave are like a dog that returns to his vomit. I'll turn it around, why would we want to return to someone else's vomit? We all have brains so we should use them despite what they say about independent thinking. If you want to rely on others to interpret your truths for you - you have that right. Let them keep your brain and fill it with whatever they want. Most of us here would rather think for ourselves.

  Michelle: Thanks for you words! I had to smile cuz my entire post was really writing from the WTS perspective. When you read it you see the ridiculousness of how they MIS-interpret the Bible. They always point out how without them we would never understand what the Bible says. My point is that it is true - if you read the Bible on your own and use your OWN brain - you certainly would never come up with the mishmash they feed others. Maybe my post wasn't clear but I sure had fun writing it! All the best!

  1 Timothy 2:5 says: "There is one God, and one mediator between God and men, a man Christ Jesus, who gave himself a corresponding ransom for all."

  Not Michael, not a spirit, not a zombie - The man Christ Jesus.

  Chronicling the Highlights of Six Months Out

  i thought i would share a few highlights of my experiences over the last six months here, since i know you guys will understand, and i felt like organizing in writing a little.

  this week marks 6 months being officially out of the wts, although it was about a year coming before that.

  here are some of the things i have been able to do for the first time that i (and my wife in some cases) probably would not have been able to do otherwise!

  College is a waste of time and money

  thats what samuel herd said yesterday at the dc convention before he went on to say the end of the world was really near.

  nobody even noticed anything when he told the audience the new generation understanding but everybody clapped when he presented the new "movie" haha the dubs need entertainment.. also i watched the drama and,... what a bunch of crap that it.

  it was my first drama after being awake and what horrid acting it is.

  They are so full of crap! Whenever I point out that they are against education they always say that the WT NEVER says not to get an education. They don't tell anyone what to do. WHAT???

  So frustrating!

  I always found the dramas to be gag worthy.

  So much for not knowing the day or the hour - it's sooooooo close. Oh but wait . . . since it's so close why not donate ALL your funds to the WTS!

  Coming from a controlling family and a controlling religion - I used to be. I also was sick all the time. I got sick of being sick and looked into why and I stumbled upon the connection between mind and body and how loss of control over your life and individuality makes you physically sick and depressed. I started asserting myself more and the chronic conditions I had before are gone.

  Longhairgal: Why oh why weren't you in my hall? I could have used a good example!

  Why didn't we ever study "Mankind's Search For God"?

  it seems to me that pretty much every publication was studied at the book study, but we never did that one..

  This thread is funny - I needed a laugh - thanks guys! Gotta love those fuzzy bums and idiots stuck in boxes.

  I didn't study it and our elders never could pick what was to be studied. It was always laid out.

  I should have studied it - maybe I would have been out much sooner!
