  Should False Prophets be sued for fraud?

  billions of dollars are generated and poured into ministries like campings, people have again done what they did in millers day, in 75, and again right now.. believers sell belongings, donate their money and time to these sort of cons, basically bankrupt themselves for the prophet who later gets to cry 'no foul'.

  while we may mock (and rightly so) miller, russell, rutherford, the wt, camping and all the others of the same ilk, what about those suckered in?

  some of them are now bust just like in the previous mentioned examples times as well.. what massive culpability must these ones bare?

  Bloody vampires of the world. About time they were all rounded up, locked up and never released. And same goes for upstart prophets. Ruiners of the gullible them all.

  I couldn't agree more, Aussie Oz!! Either lock 'em up or dump them all on some remote island far away so they can spend the rest of their days conning each other to their hearts content and leave the rest of us in peace!!!

  I just listened to the first couple of minutes and lost count of the number of times he said 'the truth'. It seemed to be in practically every sentence!Have marked it for later when I have more time to listen properly.

  Is the Governing Body Guilty or not guilty of 1975 speculations going too far?

  the most disengenuous aspect of "official" pronouncements from the society can be identified.. it is in the positioning of the speaker/writer as a passive onlooker commenting on exterior happenings.. this bystander mode is clever by half.. why?

  it spoon feeds information without taking any active personal responsibility.. sort of an "oh gee, wow--look at all this going on" stance, while taking a stand-offish tone, is printed in the official magazines and books approved for publication by the governing body as mouthpiece of jehovah.. think about that.

  it is insidious incitement without responsibility.. the person (likely fred franz) who crafted these bulletins had gone through several previous incidents of failure and disappointment and was well aware of the effect of any speculations upon jehovah's witnesses in the past.. this makes what was printed all the more calculated and irresponsible in the extreme.. let us parse the language printed by the watchtower society with careful attention to what is said and left unsaid.. w68 8/15 p. 494 why are you looking forward to 1975?.

  Now that we are down the road in history from when this event was published and we NOW KNOW it was all bullshit it stands as a warning

  for all of us that THESE PEOPLE KNEW WHAT THEY WERE SAYING.

  The Watchtower Society was being crafty and calculating.

  They were trying to have it BOTH WAYs.

  Having lived through the Fred Franz era, and having been on the receiving end of the effects of all that mass hysteria I can agree 100% with what you are saying. Franz knew full well what was happening and could have put a stop to it at any moment, but it served his purpose not to do so.

  i came to realize that what i thought was logical was nothing more than my imperfect heart seeking to be rebellious.

  Do Active Witnesses Find Meetings Exciting?

  kh meetings were utter hell.

  the boredom, particularly for a child, was awful.

  i feel it was a form of child abuse.

  Our new Kingdom hall doesn't have any windows.

  Just the memories of all those glorious summer Sunday afternoons spent inside stuffy KHs listening to monotonous voices droning on and on and on about things you had heard a thousand times before makes me feel .

  At least I usually had a window to look out of, and I can remember going into trance like states just watching leaves on nearby trees swaying in the wind. The thought of NO WINDOWS is unimaginably awful

  My guess is that we would be amazed at the number of active JWs who find the meetings boring and just endure them every week because they have no choice, but dare not admit it even to themselves!!

  Need help confronting my father..sorry for the length

  i'm 42 and was a born-in although i have never been baptized.

  as a teenager i had a lot of problems and eventually ran away several times.

  at the age off eightteen i confronted my dad about an extra marital affair he was having.

  grewupjw69, I really sympathise with your predicament, and I also agree that a carefully composed letter is the best option as you are in complete control of what you write and your father will be able to read the letter over and over again.

  In my humble opinion the letter nugget has composed is perfectly worded and shows compassion, humility, the true remorse of a daughter who has grown up and deeply regrets the hurt she caused him during her younger years, but most importantly, it shows love.

  A letter like this will prove to your father that you have not rejected him and that your dearest wish is to re-kindle your father and daughter relationship, which should be a comfort to him at the very least. Even if he does not respond immediately, he may go back to that letter and re-read it and, given a bit of time to digest it, will hopefully respond positively to it.

  when it comes to cults, jehovah's witnesses have a very strong hierarchical leadership system.

  in many ways it enforces their control on the individual.

  one of the tricks is that the lower levels of followers never get direct contact beyond the circuit overseer level.

  Really good topic. Would the GB have this much impact if all its members were known as individual middle aged and elderly men with faces and names, their background histories and whether or not they were married etc?

  My guess is that they would be in danger of being viewed as imperfect humans doing their best but prone to mistakes like the rest of us. They have actually admitted that God does not talk to them directly, which is why 'New Light' has to come out every few years to replace the doctrines they have got wrong.

  The subtle way they have changed wording in the songs and the baptism oath placing the emphasis on obeying the Organisation rather than God would raise a few concerns on the issue of idolatry and worshipping men which the bible tells us is deffinately not on. Much better to remain faceless and rather mystical so nobody can actually relate to you.
