half of that 75% get disability and ssi checks.
it was kinda funny sitting there listening to them go down the line, name by name, of the ones auxilliary pioneering since the numbers are dropped to 30 hours for march & april.
as they were doing the names i was saying to myself, "she don't work", "she supposedly can't work", "he hasn't worked in years", "she gets a check", "she's probably gonna lie about the amount of hours she did" etc.. gotta love it.. i don't know if this happens in your congregation or not, but have you ever heard someone remark about someone else behind their back, "she can show up at every gathering, but she can't show up for field service!
When I was a pioneer 40 plus years ago, we had to do 100 hours a month and also support ourselves. I had a part time cleaning job earning 50p an hour, and I had to really graft for that money. I was constantly broke and had no money to buy new shoes to replace the ones that were worn out due to the number of miles I had to walk each week, due to the fact I couldn't afford to run a car. I was not on my own, we were nearly all in the same boat and either rode bicycles or walked. I don't know if it was just a rule amongst local congregations at that time, but we were not allowed to pioneer if we were accepting state benefits, we had to work to support ourselves!
Nowadays, whenever I visit JW relatives, there seems to be loads of able bodied young men and women hanging around either meeting up at the house pre service or calling any time during the day for coffee breaks and to use the loo, all suited and booted in lovely clothes, who never break out into a sweat or look in any hurry to leave whatsever. I am quite sure at least some of them are on benefits. All this on top of the fact they only have to do a fraction of the hours WE had to do as well as support ourselves prior to 1975! Yet all that seems to have been conveniently forgotten about. Where has all the urgency gone if we are supposed to be even closer to the end??!
To cap it all, I have had two different sisters confront me and ask me when I am going to "pull my socks up" regarding the "Truth", and another one shout at me for being selfish. I had dropped everything to go and help care for my mother at the time who was ill. None of the loving sisters seemed to be available to help out. They were probably too busy knocking doors and drinking coffee.
It just makes my blood boil.
dear friends:.
forty-five years ago i was out in service with an elder, and we came upon a house where the owners kindly received us.
this was not so unusual as the family was jehovah's witnesses.
Sending love and positive vibes your way Mike

Thank you Finkelstein .
It is at least two years since I listened to that talk and I remembered some parts slightly differently, but as you say the hate and prejudice this man expresses is disgusting! How anyone of sound mind can rant on the way he did about the satisfaction of seeing the land strewn with dead bodies and body parts after armageddon, I just don't know.
As you say, there would have been impressionable children listening to all that which doesn't bear thinking about. Also, if there were people in the audience with gay or lesbian relatives, how would they have felt?

Ah, I found the thread by Tatiana which was 4 years ago entitled A truly creepy 2007 public talk by Ciro Aulicino - You Will Be With Me in Paradise
I'm really sorry I don't know how to do links.
I think that Ciro Aulicino is/was a member of the bethel family but not sure if he was actually one of the GB.
If you go onto youtube the video in question is titled Horror in Paradise
The way he laughs half way through when talking about the dead bodies including gays and lesbians, it is really chilling.

Hi kptkirk, sorry for the delay in replying. I have been a bit busy today and only just got back to my laptop.
Jed is dead thanks for finding that WT article.
I am sure there are others as well. I will try and find the links if I can and get back to you.
I have also been searching for the youtube video in question. I originally found it via a link in a thread on JWN about a couple of years ago. It was blood chillingly awful.
It was a talk by a GB member who has since died and I can't remember his name. He went into graphic detail about what he imagines (and hopes) will happen to the multitude of mankind at armageddon when he claims they will be destroyed by Jehovah. It was quite chilling to say the least and left me feeling quite sick. I will keep searching for it but maybe someone else will be kind enough to find it in the mean time. Anyway, I will keep searching

I have to agree with you Terry. Don't forget they have to hold back from physical violence in order to uphold the law of the land. Shunning only exists because they are bound by the law of this "wicked system" not to stone members of the flock to death who transgress and are deemed unrepentant. (There is an article in a WT that someone quoted once where they admit this).
I only have to listen to some of the extremely disturbing talks be GB members that are on youtube, one in particular who spoke with utmost relish and glee of how much he was looking forward to watching the destruction of the "wicked" at armageddon, especially the "gays" who he seemed to be obsessed with for some reason. He told the audience they would all be laughing and rejoicing while they watched the gays dying, probably agonising deaths. He admitted he certainly would be, and was looking forward to it. He even ordered the rank and file not to feel any pity for them. I ask you, is that normal?
it is midnight here in the north pacific.
but for you in france and germany, it is 9 am.
doesn't it feel great to do something else, anything else, then knock, knock, knocking on peoples doors?.
Good afternoon Lois and everyone on JWN.
I have just come inside from pottering in the garden, sewing seeds and feeling at one with nature on a lovely Spring-like day in England. Birds are singing - bliss!
Oh how I miss the days of setting the alarm to get up and out to meet the group for service then back home for a rushed lunch and off the the overheated and stuffy KH for two hours sitting on uncomfortable seats listening to some men droning on and on and on
NOT!!!!
my friends usually walked me home after dark.
but one evening i was so tired that i decided to call a taxi.
the driver didnt take me home.
At the end of the day, regardless of whether they are saying to scream or not to scream, I find the whole thing is so degrading towards women.
How dare a bunch of men sitting in their ivory tower decide how a woman should react whilst being brutally raped, using antequated quotations written about people who existed more than two thousand years ago to base their ruling. Also remember that women back then were considered as property, not individuals in their own right, which speaks volumes in itself.
Would these same rules apply to the GB themselves if they were ambushed and raped one dark evening? Whilst they were experiencing the terror of being violated, in extreme agony, would they spend time thinking about the respect they should show to this "fellow human"? Would they scream their lungs out even though they were being pinned down unable to fight or struggle, with a knife held to their throat? Would they think it was better to have their throat cut than allow themselves to be violated and commit the terrible sin of fornication? Then, after all this trauma, be forced to sit in front of a committee of men cross examining them in excruciating detail about their ordeal to establish if they were willing participants in the rape or not?
Hmmmm, I would like to know!

WT 68, Jun 1,confirms guiltiness by adding:
“Would it be different if the man had a weapon and threatened to kill youif you did not submit? No,the Scriptures plainly state thatChristians are under obligation to ‘flee from fornication.’ (1 Cor. 6:18) It is true that you face the possibility of deathin this case.”
Yes, I remember this delightful little WT rule well. My own parents made it very clear that, if attacked, I should scream at the top of my voice even if the rapist had a weapon because it would be better to die and resurrected in the New System than to loose my virginity to someone I was not married to
