  Elder groupies

  any of you that are elders or ex-elders.... did you ever have certain people in your cong that would call you at home very often with trivial or constant questions concerning "what should i do"?

  did you feel that your position actually served a useful purpose for people who could not think or reason for themselves?.

  did you often give up time with your own family in order to be available to these constant groupies calling for advice?.

  This is why their are hardly any brothers stepping up and reaching out to be elders. There are too many horror stories that long time elders or just in general that have been passed around to ward off many reaching out.

  The duties as an elder are to help the congregation, but first and foremost as a qualification you have to take care of your family. If that means no phone calls after a certain time at night and in an emergency, then I wouldn't fault an elder for that.

  When members have a need for guidance and they are ignored or treated badly by the Elders does this affect these people possibly being DF'd in the future because of underlying grievences against them, i.e. being labeled as "pests"?

  Quite possibly, but the society will just say that they were weak and lacking faith in Jehovah God and not waiting on him to take care of things in his own time. In other words, good riddance, thanks for your donations, but see ya.

  from what i've noticed 'wordly' teens or very young adults won't follow jw's.most teens/young jw's are born in,so boasting about the theocratic youth is actually boasting about jw children lol..

  I highly doubt they will get more liberal. If anything they will get more hardline and up the pharissaical rules and regulations. There are changes coming (new elders book with new training) that will enforce the rules and regs to an even more suffocating degree. I really think another split or major falling out is going to happen in a few years time. At least in the next 10 years. Even though I'm speculating, there are too many telling factors going on that make that a high possibility.

  as an elder of many years, i was continually struck with the abundance of chronically ill witnesses whose disease appeared to be related to their own stress at trying to meet the endless demands of the "truth".

  i am not a medical professional but i don't need to be a doctor to know that the depression and virtual self loathing ('i'm not good enough, i must do more, i'm a bad parent....") sets a stage for ill health.. and now science backs up that conclusion:.

  Either 1) lie and give him 2 hours of time, say it was informal witnessing bullshit. 2) tell him that you did not have a chance to go out because you were ill. Not entirely a lie, because I get ill everytime I think of going out in service trying to recruit people to this cult and I won't do it.

  Or just tell him you are needing time to sort things out and need your space, of course that could have him go into shephard mode and cause hell.

  my lord spoke to me for the first time yesterday and this morning he told me to post my experience.. i know there are going to be ones who will call me names and thats ok. i will accept whatever you feel you need to say.. here goes.

  i heard a voice calling ''my child'', this happened while at the zoo so i was taken off guard!

  i replied ''who is this?

  I didn't bring AGuest into this so I'll let it go and won't add to it.

  I'm just saying its pretty silly to have communication from Jesus or the Almighty himself and all he told you was something he's been saying to you (us) in the bible for a while now.

  But hey you know what? More power to him if had some voices in his head and they told him to show love and kindness. I bet if he said the voice said to go kill someone you'd call bullshit though!

  But hey, I'm just a human being being human. But I still will try my best to be loving and kind. Even to the whackjobs.

  It's funny that he told you to show love and kindness. Why? Well, isn't that what it says in the bible? I mean, what he told you is nothing new or different from what is already stated in print.

  So I call bullshit. You really should go to the doctor if you are having 'voices' speaking to you.

  there seems to be a lot of speculative jw confusion on this.

  several jw "rules of thumb" seem to apply -.

  1) - if you die "during a judgement period" - i.e., you died post 1914 after hearing the jw message, and did not accept it - you do not get a resurrection.... << but, i believe they qualified this to say that 20th century people (like in red china) that did not hear the jw message might come back >>.
