Has anyone ever asked a Catholic if they hate us like we are told they do?
by life is to short inevery since i was a little kid all i have heard is how the catholic's hate us, how they persecute us, even beat us in some third world country's.
they insight their members to hate us and pelt us with rocks, tar and feather us, on and on.
in fact rummer has it that in one small town by us the slit the tires of all the jw's cars in the late 60 when they were holding a ca.

I think the WTS needed to put a face to "the devil" and the Catholic church seemed to be perfect at the time. That's all I can think of. I know a lot of catholics and they have never talked bad about the witnesses (they knew I was one) other than what anyone else would say about witnesses.

1914 again
by inbetween inthere are a lot of thread s and arguments around the 587/607 issue, it can be a bit confusing, and for those of us still in, like me, to help others, it would not be a topic i would choose first.
it was something i found out, after i awakened, before i simply brushed it aside, as something like worldly chronology against biblical chronology.
imho to be ready for this issue, you have to be awake first, unless you are a real history buff... anyway, there may be another take on this matter:.

To use WW1 and anything else of that time does not make any sense to me. Anyone that paid half attention to their world history in grade school would have know that there have been worse periods before this. There have always been terrible earthquakes, volcano eruptions, wars, disease outbreaks, starvation, you name it, it's happened before.
It's like saying, "well Mars is the closest to earth and X happened, that must be a sign of the apocalypse!"

" i was out in the world and belive me!! Its a terrible place! We are so blessed to be in the truth!"

I've noticed that the ones that really go off the deep end when they go into the world, that they are like a spring that has just been unsprung with all of its force behind it. These kids are wound so tight by their parents "in the truth" that when they get sick of the bullshit and leave, they go all out and get trashed. I knew of one elders son who abused drugs, drank like a fish, got thrown in jail for carrying an concealed firearm into a bar, robbed to pay for his "fixes".... you name it he probably did it. He comes back years later and says, "the world is evil, it makes you do crazy things that ruin your life."
No it doesn't, you're just a poor decision maker and party seeker.

Weird, Weird Dream
by snowbird inwhen i left my sorry, no-account first husband, i moved in with one of my sisters in a big old house with a huge kitchen.. well, last night i dreamed that this was now my house, and a group of jw's were invited by my little jw college daughter to come there and prepare sandwiches for the convention.. they were in my kitchen, preparing food in assembly-line fashion, but refusing to speak to me!
i was so angry and indignant that i woke myself up fuming.
what in the world!!!???

Ahh yep, that will do it! I haven't followed anything on your daughter, is she a "true believer" or does she see it for what it is?

Question for Billy The Ex-Bethelite and others who had forgone college sometime ago.
by garyneal ini was talking with my wife today about college and i asked her about why the society makes such a big deal about witnesses not going to college.
in typical dub fashion, my wife tells me that they do not discourage college, but they do not encourage it either.
instead, they encourage placing kingdom interests first.. now i told her about you (billy) and how you were at bethel and are now starting college at the age of 40 (i think that is correct).

That's a pretty weak counter-point made by your wife (no offense) when she said:
My wife counters with, "Well these people who insist that they have to go to college because they are 'struggling,' are they struggling because they do not simplify their lives? Are they struggling because they want the biggest house or want to live an extravagent lifestyle?"
I will not rule out that some people fall into this category of spending beyond their means and putting themselves into this "struggling." However, I find that most are truly struggling to pay the bills and make ends meet because they are getting paid low wages. I mean how much can a window washer, or janitor make?
The witnesses I know that have gone to college don't seem to be "struggling" like these. I see them live in rather decent homes, nice cars, always seem to be off somewhere for a holiday... granted not all are like this, but majority I've found are.
I went to college in my early 20's, I have an excellent job now and I can't say I made the wrong choice. I try to (or at least did when I was attending meetings) push college on as many teenagers as I can.

It's easier to ask for forgiveness than ask for permission sometimes. So, yes, it's okay to have sex.

Not doubting in private
by 5thGeneration incan anyone please help me find this wt quote.. it was from around 1999-2002.. where it says it would be wrong to have any doubts, even in private.
something to that effect.. thanks.. 5th.

Well, I don't have doubts, I just know the truth about the Truthâ„¢. I can see why they do everything they can to squash those initial "doubts" though, I mean, once you get past the fear of investigating, it's pretty easy to find the truth about the Watchtower.

I was "born in" but I got DF'd, went deep into the "world" and I have to say, it wasn't that bad. In fact, I had less drama, less stress, and more time to do the things I wanted to do. Hiking, camping, spending more time at the gym, having a girlfriend and doing things on the weekends with her... it was the closest thing to a "normal" life I had.
Wish I never went back...
