My Story - Abbreviated but still way too long
by jamesmahon inwhen my mum returned after 6 weeks she had also been converted.
i am sure the twenty years younger and big boobs had nothing whatsoever to do with it and cannot think why he both could think of no other way of leaving and why if it was so bad it was alright to leave his kids in it.
she beat me so bad i found out afterwards my brothers thought she was going to kill me.

New Apostate here
by skitt ini did not know where to start, but figured the personal experience section was a good place to begin.
won't bore you with all the particulars today....but i was raised in "it" (wont call it the truth, cause it ain't) from about 1968. baptized in 1985, faded about 2001.....woke up from the insanity after reading ray franz forbidden book a few years ago(crisis).
only sorry i did not read it earlier....but there was that fear factor instilled in me.

Murder in the Bible.
by Mall Cop inthe story of cain and able in chapter four of the bible takes up about sixteen lines or verses of the bible.. it is arguably history's most famous murder.. but the story is silent about one key detail: the weapon cain used to kill his brother.. it's not a rock, or a sharpened stone.
yes, there was blood.. and to this day, the world's first murder weapon is still lost to history.. why has the writer/ writers left this important information out?.
afterall to charge someone with murder you need to have a murder weapon.. are there any other murders in the bible where the weapon used is unknown and or lost to history.. blueblades/mall cop.

I fail to see the importance of finding the weapon, or even identifying it. Isn't the whole purpose of the story to teach you that treachery, deceit, hate, murder was committed? Finding the weapon, identifying it would only put mythical value to it. Like the spear that pierced Jesus.
An argument like this reminds me of the argument of what Jesus died on, cross or stake. Who cares? What he died on wasn't the point, it was that he did die for us. He could've died any other way without breaking bones in his body and he would have fulfilled prophecy.
Now if it's just that you need to know just to know, than okay... a club?

I don't know what to say, but I'll relate an experience that happened to me last week.
Last week, one of my so called "friends" (newly appointed MS) calls me up, offers to go for a beer and "talk". I haven't been to any meetings in 3 months now and everyone is in "crisis" mode, i.e. save him at all costs.
After badgering me all day to go for a drink, I keep telling him no, can't make it etc, he shows up at my house after I have told him no. Being the nice guy I am, I say, okay lets go, but you got 1 pint to talk. That turned out to be a mistake. He was trying to convert me to come back, he was treating me like a study coming across with the usual self-righteous, judgmental holier than thou attitude. Even called me a possible apostate for not following the organization.
Long story short, the next day I told him to go f**k himself. I'm waiting for the backlash from that now. lol.... okay, that wasn't good advice, but I've had enough of their bullshit love bomb tactics that only inspire me to beat the shit out of someone.

IF THE BIBLE is so darned great---why don't people JUST read IT?
by Terry inworking in a bookstore i notice the thousands and thousands of books "explaining" what the bible really "means.".
those are what people read.. when people say they read the bible they are really saying they "try".
but, it is like reading chinese.. so, what they end up doing is reading opinions.. opinions, conjectures, hypothesis, fantasy, imaginative ruminations, fanciful concoctions......other people's ideas presented as documentary fact.. .

I started re-reading the bible a few months back (ESV version) and i'm enjoying it - for the first time. I've downloaded a bible reading schedule online and it has helped. However, I am finding the points that you made to be true. Interpretation doesn't make it true. It is just opinion and man is the WTS opinionated, just like the rest of Christianity. I have no idea what the solution is, but religion and its forced opinion of scriptural interpretation is the cause for so much hate, bloodshed and atrocities.
The deeper you dig, the more bones you find.

jw inlaws cant visit us because we dont live near anywhere that they visit !
by looloo inhi all, ive not posted for a while ,but my mother told me that recently she saw my non practising ex elder fatherin law who still believes in "the truth" im married to his disfellowshipped son and we have a lovely little girl who they have not seen for 18 months despite living just a half hour drive away, anyway my mother told him that i had said him and his die hard jw wife would be most welcome to come and see us and the grandaughter they claim to be heartbroken about not seeing anymore since we left town and to just give us a ring first !
he replied " well that will be a bit difficult because they dont live anywhere near where we visit !
" my mother was too stunned to reply !

I'm having a hard time reading that without punctuation, but I'm sorry that they are giving you that crap. Like I told a JW "friend" this week who was trying to "encourage" me to come back to the meetings, "with friends like you, who needs enemies?"

No pressure to read anymore!
by highdose ini realised today that life is so much more of a pleasure now that i can read what i what at my own place.. in the borg i had to constantly read read read the magazines , the latest books, the latest brochures, the meeting prep, the daily scripture and my own personal study.
most of the time i would just speed read in an effort to "get in done", how pathetic is that!?.
now days i can read as much or as little as i want.

I find the publications very lacking. The way it's presented and written is like it's for 4th-5th graders. There is no substance to their literature, even growing up and reading through the young people ask books or the book study books, it all seemed to be lacking. After putting it down I wouldn't retain anything because there wasn't anything really to retain, it was all so bland.
I like to read and when I put down the book I like whatever it is to make an impact on me, either thinking about what I was reading, or the thoughts that it provoked. WTS literature is just horrible.
