JW view of the Bible vs WT publications
by brotherdan ini recently had an experience with my mother-in-law that really solidified what i had suspected about the jw claim to trust only in the bible.. my father-in-law was raised a witness, but never got baptized.
he eventually joined the army and served his country in vietnam.
after his tours of service he "came to his senses" and eventually got baptized as a jw.. fast forward to a few months ago.

That's exactly the case I've found myself BroDan. I can't even begin to count the times I've heard and even said myself when I was full on 'in', what does the publications say? Rarely what does the bible say on the matter. It's quite infuriating when you think about the level of lies that is going on.
My mom always taught me that to lie take more work than to just tell the truth. Because with a lie, you have to build more lies to support the original lie and before you know it you can't tell what's the truth in anything because you've lived a lie for so long.

The Greatest Lesson the Watchtower Ever Taught Me
by jamiebowers inthe greatest lesson that the watchtower has taught me is to give the love that has been taken from me.
our mother shuns my brother and me to the extreme.
just this morning she told me on the phone from her hospital bed that we will have to learn her diagnosis through the grapevine.. she wasn't always like this.

Beautiful example of someone taking something horrible and letting it fuel something loving and honorable. Jamie

Bethel Rules
by brotherdan inthis was brought up just in passing on another thread.
but i wanted to see if there are any bethelites or ex bethelites that remember some of the crazy rules we had to follow when we were there..

This thread is not only classic, it's epic! I've heard all of this stuff through the years as a witness and thank goodness I never ever went to bethel. Someone should do a documentary on the 'inside' bethel experience, imagine the cult-like comparisons would be blatently evident.
- awesome posts.

Where now?
by bez inits been a long time coming but i kinda think im finally at the point of no return....... right or wrong, i have spoken to my 'friends' about my new feelings and the fact i no longer believe that this is gods chosen people etc etc... and have already been told that if i was to now celebrate my childs birthdays , her 'truth' friends would not be able to come to sleep again and associate with her... (she is 7).
this is despite the fact they are allowed to play with there non witness friends who live down the road....why??
the explanation is that their daughter would perhaps feel it is ok to do this when it is not... i ask why could they not just simply explain it is not our family's belief anymore (as my husband is with me on my decision), and my response is that it would be difficult to do that as we once were witnesses and now are not so it would confuse her daughter and make her think its ok to do these things now... .

Welcome!
Just one thing, don't jump the JW cult ship to the Mormon cult ship. A cult that is a cult is a cult. Stay away from cults!
Another thing, there is nothing wrong with you, you made the right decision, you being worried about your daughter is natural, but at that age, she'll be fine making new friends. Screw the JW jackasses!!

Did you ever know any JW's/Pioneers who frequented popular nightspots and got drunk?
by James_Slash init used to make me sick at these hypocrites.. they would be at the meeting the next day or out in field service, obviously still intoxicated from the night before but putting a show on before the congregation.
i knew a couple of girls who would be regulary doing this over a weekend yet they would be pioneers all week, answering up at the meetings yet would be heading into popular nightspots and coming home at 4am drunk.
their dad was an elder (surprise, surprise).. i remember telling an elder about this once.

Yup, there was a group of us that regularly got shit-faced drunk on the weekends. We'd all show up the next morning for service hung over, all work together get an 'assignment' in some territory and go straight to breakfast and stay there for most of the morning. Good times, best days in service yet!

Kingdom Song Hangover
by Eiben Scrood inaside from a song or two at the memorial the last few years, i haven't been exposed to any kingdom songs in a long time (5+ years) yet certain lyrics keep popping into my head quite frequently.. "there is joy in the service for all, it's the work jesus did you'll recall".
"soon there'll be great banqueting in which the meek will share, this good news of the kingdom let us preach".
"on many occasions god spoke long ago by means of his prophets on earth here below".

For those still "in" for whatever reason, how long did it take you to disconnect from the things you were taught?
by Crisis of Conscience ini'm coming up on a year of when i first "woke up" regarding the org.
i still am "in" because i am trying to weigh out my options.
my wife is still mentally "in" and i know way to many people.

I feel the same CoC. It took me about 5 months to disconnect. Walking in the hall now is just a formality (when I do) to keep the peace in the family. I try to phase out and go somewhere else mentally, if I don't the disgust factor gets to the point where I get nauseated.

I can't view it... some type of security or sign up crap through hotmail. I'll take your word for it though.
Edit: ahh that's it BroDan, I'm using Firefox too.
