I just wanted to add that I think we are getting caught up with only one aspect of what Anonymous could do. Yes, they are targetting the pedo list, but if you look at what they have already pulled, there's a lot to go after.

Financial investors for one. Who are they? What is the connection? What are the investments? Who is the marketing manager? Conflict of interest areas?

Also, names of the board of directors, Don Adams is still the president of the corporation? Who are these people, what are their connections? Are any of their connections a conflict of interest?

If you look at the link in the op, there is an update. Wow! They are moving quickly! They have another operation started as well, looks like they are going after the financials.

Another thing about shutting down the site...

Think about how many elders/CO's/DO's this will affect. I'm not sure how long they could bring the site down, but if they time it right around when congregation secretaries report the time for the month, this could be a huge nuasance. Also, with the direction to go to jw-media.org from the platform, the rank and file will open it up and have the front page redirect them to silentlambs or maybe even to jwfacts would do considerable amount of damage.

This will definitely put the org into circle the wagons mode, it may get worse before it gets better too. But the harder the grip they exert they more people will tire. We honestly need another 1975 hysteria to happen, because with today's technology and the access to news, anything can be turned into an epic event.

No problem starting a new thread LITS, I was just reposting the link someone else posted in the original thread.

What do they hope to accomplish? Again, I don't think people understand the power of bad publicity on a grand scale. Scientology is a joke, but now everyone knows it's a joke. Same with JWs, it's a joke, we know it, now it's going to get it's airtime.

It could possibly be another blip in the radar, but the more exposure the WTBTS gets and it's practices are put right in the same category of mainstream religion, the better chances of it sinking.

Ultimately, the exposure would lump them into all religion and hope that government starts to tax them. Bring on the hurt in more ways. Yeah, they'll spin it as persecution on the "true" religion, but in the end, it will hurt their bottom line. When that happens, policies will be forced to change.

i just thought you should know that mrs cedars has finally taken the plunge and joined the forum.

she was able to log on for the first time yesterday.. though we both "awakened" at different stages, mrs cedars was very supportive and non-judgmental when i first began exploring my beliefs from a critical standpoint.

she is currently in the process of reading crisis of conscience and aquainting herself with some of the facts of witness history that were hitherto unknown.

as you know, very big things are happening in regards to the watchtower on a weekly and even daily basis.

they have stepped up their hatred towards those who have left, strengthened their stranglehold on those still stuck in and continued with their harmful policies that damage families, protect pedophiles and sacrifice children.

Although you have only one voice, if that voice stands with thousands of others, it will be heard.

Yes, you should get help to deal with being in the cult, but at the same time, if we all rally together and stop thinking about only ourselves but for the hundreds of thousands, no millions of victims within the WTBTS, we can make a difference.

I'm here to help if needed. I work in R&D with system applications and software/hardware integration. Solution based trouble shooting skills.

I'm all for helping.

How Do You Think The Watchtower IT Department Is Responding To The Anonymous Threat?

so anonymous has declared its intentions to utterly destroy the watchtower society.

this will likely include attacking the official websites and trying to obtain the database of 23,000+ pedophiles in the organization.. i have never served at bethel so i would appreciate the input of those who have.

do you think they are taking this threat seriously?.

The so called IT department will not be prepared for the level of attack Anonymous will bring to their infrastructure. Bethel is on a network, a network can be infiltrated, mined and shut down. Anonymous got into government databases i.e. Syria, etc. The WTBTS has nothing of the level of security a government has.

Don't give them too much credit guys. It's not Fort Knox.

I'll tell you this from working for a witness when I was 18. The guy ran a construction company and was an MS in the local congregation I attended. At the hall he was charismatic, funny, helpful and generous.

Then I went to work for him. He was a complete asshole. He swore like a sailor, cheated his guys out of overtime pay, worked us like dogs each day, yelled at us like we were idiots and was a different person altogether.

So yes, JWs live double lives. They have their "witness" mode at the hall, in service and get togethers. Then you have the "work" mode, i.e. "worldly".
