*sigh* Meanwhile, I live in the arm pit of the bible belt in the southern US. Thanks, Nick.

they deny that a person of faith could come their conclusions as a matter of reason.
Many people of a particular faith are such because of presuppositions adopted from their environment as children. Do you believe all Muslims are such because of their reason alone?
They whine and moan that people of faith won't consider a contrary view, yet they exclude themselves from the requirement to be "open minded".
Perhaps we should consider the meaning of open-mindedness...

I've met countless individuals whose faith was based on presupposition, not reason. Had you never been exposed to the bible or Christian theology as a child, I find it hard to believe you would accept it as a reasoning adult. Same goes for the Koran, etc...

QFR feb 15th 2010 - lets be honest , we haven't got a clue...
by dozy inthe questions from readers feb 15th 2011 raises the (no doubt burning in many jws minds) question about why moses became angry with aarons 2 sons after the death of their brothers.. the wtbts undertakes to answer this question but really doesn't seem unsure of themselves (perhaps the channel of communication was suffering some interference that day.
) notice the numerous ways that the wtbts in a short (half page) article hedges its bets.
it reminded me of a schoolboy cooking up a story when he was caught with his hands in the cookie jar , vacillating & hedging as he tries to think up an acceptable answer.. it appears that , the surviving priests had evidently acted , aaron may have wondered , perhaps he felt , aaron mayespecially have reasoned , aaron may have thought , moses seems to have accepted , evidently, jehovah too was satisfied.. .

I've got a hundred bucks that a devout JW would say, "No, but that just shows their humility. They aren't dogmatically saying this or that."
No, it just shows they don't know what the hell they're talking about because no deity is giving them clarification regarding their poorly-concocted, myth-dominated storybook.

I have seen some JWs on FB that are very goofy, nerdy, etc..
Look, you can call me goofy, nerdy, etc.. but if you call me a JW one more time, we're gonna throw down in fisticuffs. I've got Jack Johnson and Tom O'Leary waitin' for ya...right here.

SweetBaby, I just love your last sentence.
Why thank you, Sphere! I was working on Atheocratic Ministry School Counsel Point #32 - If Logic Fails to Convince Them, Be Facetious.

Evolution cannot be proven on this forum but the non-existence of God can be?
hang on, bxjw... i've never seen anyone on this forum claim to be able to prove the non-existence of a superhuman deity. if someone did, they were being a moron because we really can't prove something of that nature doesn't exist anymore than you can prove the non-existence of unicorns. (now someone can prove that the bible-described god doesn't exist because he's self-refuting in definition but nobody can prove the non-existence of the supernatural realm or all possible - though highly improbable - entities.)
the fact that you aren't considering that indicates you are still prejudiced against science... not that you lack the capacity to understand it but you just haven't taken the time to do so, and instead remain attached to an old presupposition. why? put away the prejudice. if you do your homework and you still balk at evolution, that's one thing. but if you haven't done your homework and you're pooping on it in advance... do yourself a favor and read up on the principles of critical thinking - something JWs are shielded from - and then start over from scratch. this is not a "i'm smarter than you" remark. i'm ignorant and I've accepted that. but learning the fundamentals of critical thinking is what helped me to figure that out.
start with a book on critical thinking and go from there. what have you got to lose?

simon17, I'm sure that will be the case when our grandchildren or ggchildren are in school. I've asked the same question about what man's assumptions would be if there were no god and I arrive at... well, where we are now.
bxjw: don't take offense, back up for just a minute, release your childhood presupposition that a deity created us, check out some credible material on natural selection with an open mind, and then get back to us. it's pretty interesting stuff if you suppress bias.
yeah, i know, I'm making a bold assumption in the childhood presupposition thing but if the shoe fits, please, I'm beggin you to wear it. i had to do the same. and i wish someone would've shaken some sense into me on the whole presupposition issue sooner. that's all.
i'm takin myself to bed now. peace and goodfreewill to all or whatever.

Ohhh you let me down Bro
Ah, well, I can't make everyone happy and I've learned to live with that.
I don't share Tammy's faith but she has the whole Jesus-love-attitude down more than most Christians I know. If they were all like her, there wouldn't be much of a reason to buck em. hell, she admits the bible isn't god-driven. give credit where due, i always say. when i've been drinking.
