Personal Story - How a cult got me out of a cult
by CitizenRain ini used to be a bit more active in the community over on the yuku board (i recognize some of you from over there) but have lost touch.
i've been lurking this board for about 3 years now and finally decided to jump in and post, and share my similar but still unique story of how i went from being a born-in true believer to a full blown apostate.
first off, let me introduce myself.

Holy Spirit in Judicial Committees
by Mr. Falcon inone of the most controversial practices of jehovah's witnesses is the operation of judicial committees.
these specially-assigned inquisitory boards are manned by at least 3 elders and interrogate, investigate and finally prosecute a person believed to be guilty of any number of offenses.
these offenses can be anything from heavy drinking, masturbation, swearing to infidelity, apostacy even issues of bloodguilt.

MF'er, what the hell you doin' up in heyah? Dontcha be grieving no Holy Spirit!
According to the scriptures, Holy Spirit has at least once dipped it's tip in and dropped a load without requiring or requesting permission.
Therefore, we could rightly suspect that HS operates on Judicial Committees today as people continue to get f*cked over in those meetings.

Update: I got the shun at my dad's funeral- the best outcome really!!
by Coffee House Girl inhello all jwn .
so glad to have that over with- it was surreal to walk in the kh after two years...it is just a building to me now (not "jehovah's house").
i must say that now i'm on the outside...what a boring sad building- the people were not joyful and friendly (just older and fatter than i remember)- i got the nervous stares and shaky "hi" when i looked at all of them and said hello.. my mom was sitting all by herself in the front row of the hall...i went and sat by her side.

CHG, I'm genuinely sad for your loss. I know you must be experiencing a rollercoaster of emotion but I also have no doubt the good memories of your father will help you in the healing process. He sounds like he was a real quality fellow.
Sympathy, for me, tends to be the byproduct of recent experience. I lost my mother a little more than a week ago and we had the funeral this past Saturday. I'll share ordeal on another thread but I just wanted to express my sympathy here for the pain you're facing.
BTW, I loved your poem and agree with you 100%: if JW's don't like it, f*ck em.... and I think you should have that engraved on the piece of wood as well.
Take care,
SBC

Chemtrails, Seeing is believing.
by pedal power inbefore i begin, i want you to know i understand the difference between chemtrails and contrails, so lets leave those discussions behind, chemtrails exist.. what is the purpose of chemtrails ?
if it was to artificially create clouds, why come to edinburgh ?
for any of you who are unaware, 90% of the time its cloudy and rainy, so creating cloud cover, is a joke.

Unshackled: If YouTube videos are all the evidence required, then we can also conclude our skies are littered with alien spacecraft, Bigfoot rules the forests, and double rainbows are a miracle.
Woah, woah, woah.... what're you tryin' to say, "Unshackled"... if that's your real name? You tellin' me that double rainbows don't mean something special? What if they're all the way? Explain that, hotshot.

Question for the Athiests/Agnostics
by jwfacts insome people feel they need a religion, and need to attend a church.
if such a person starts questioning the watchtower and they asked you "where else to go?
", what would you recommend?.

If I'm ever asked a similar question as this in the future, I hope to reply with something along the lines of Robert Ingersoll's response below.
Interviewer: The great objection to your teaching urged by your enemies is that you constantly tear down, and never build up.
Ingersoll: ....A destroyer of weeds, thistles and thorns is a benefactor, whether he soweth grain or not. I cannot for my life see why one should be charged with tearing down and not rebuilding simply because he exposes a sham, or detects a lie. I do not feel under any obligation to build something in the place of a detected falsehood. All I think I am under obligation to put in the place of a detected lie is the detection. Most religionists talk as if mistakes were valuable things and they did not wish to part with them without a consideration. Just how much they regard lies worth a dozen I do not know. If the price is reasonable I am perfectly willing to give it, rather than to see them live and give their lives to the defense of delusions.
I am firmly convinced that to be happy here will not in the least detract from our happiness in another world should we be so fortunate as to reach another world ; and I cannot see the value of any philosophy that reaches beyond the intelligent happiness of the present. There may be a God who will make us happy in another world. If he does, it will be more than he has accomplished in this. I suppose that he will never have more than infinite power and never have less than infinite wisdom, and why people should expect that he should do better in another world than he has in this is something that I have never been able to explain. A being who has the power to prevent it and yet who allows thousands and millions of his children to starve; who devours them with earthquakes; who allows whole nations to be enslaved, cannot in my judgment be implicitly depended upon to do justice in another world. -

Pedal, FWIW, I like a good 1997 action thriller movie starring Mel Gibson just as much as the next guy. But I'd like to isolate the title of this thread for just a sec. Trusting one's eye sight as an accurate and authoritative judge between contrail and chemtrail isn't exactly scientific. In fact , the use of the phrase "seeing is believing" hurts your credibility at the outset. I cringe when I read anything resembling the dogmatic words "I know what I saw!" when the claimant believes he saw something otherworldly. The same goes for these extraordinary conspiracy theories.
I know I can't trust everything I think I see so why should I believe you?
Maybe chemtrails, as purported, are real. All we need, then, is convincing evidence. "These trails look different and dissipate at a different rate and my throat hurts" is not sufficient evidence for scientists. Why should it be sufficient for anyone else?
