I hear voices from the sky sometimes. Well, from the ceiling, to be more accurate. And always at the office during work hours.

Update on my JC hearing...received the expected news
by SweetBabyCheezits inin case anyone's interested but unaware of my family's case up to this point, here's the original thread:.
http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/friends/198852/5/sbcheezits-judicial-hearing-my-epic-fail-repost-for-ie-users.
so the elders requested a follow-up meeting last week but we were unable to meet at their set time and told them as much.

VB, yeah, Mom and Dad aren't taking it well. It's creating a lot of stress and turmoil for them and I really hate that. What's worse is they can't see that their religion is the SOURCE of this turmoil... instead they assign those feelings to me and my actions. For example, anytime the subject comes up, Mom tells me that they have no choice. I want to tell them how happy they can be without the chains of the WT but it's pointless. Mom's really emotional and "loves the truth." (There's a section in The God Delusion that describes this attachment perfectly.)
I had a nice dinner with them a few days ago when the Mrs went outta town for a bridal shower. We didn't discuss religion, god, or faith the whole time. That's how things could've been had we been allowed to fade. Strange that they still treat me about the same even though they're aware of the DF verdict. The power of one little announcement.... geez.
Misery, the wedding is this upcoming weekend. We will turn in our letters of appeal today, succesfully delaying the announcement until after the wedding. I'm thankful for that.
Misocup, I agree that the WTBTS's power and control are disgusting. Unfortunately, it seems that religious shunning is pretty much out of the court's juridsiction and if the org words the announcement just right ("so-and-so is no longer one of JWs"), no harm no foul. And the law can't really force members to associate with nonmembers if it's a "personal decision" for the member.
I may post my appeal letter for suggestions in a bit.

What if God's existence was PROVEN TO BE TRUE?
by nicolaou inthis isn't a 'prove god exists' thread, it's a 'what if' thread .
what if god's existence could be proven beyond any doubt?
what if god were to actually show himself so that nobody could doubt his existence?.

Thanks again, everyone, for all the comments and suggestions!
I agree with you, VB. Planting a seed of doubt seems to be the only means, if any, to reach a JW who has their defenses up. I'll see what I can do. (That task seems more daunting the closer I get to the announcement.)
BTW, I wanted to mention that VB is the only poster I personally know on this forum and I consider him a brother. This is the kinda guy who will stick by your grandma's side out in FS in the projects even though she stops to talk to a gang of intimidating young fellas about God's Kingdom... or the benefits of breast-feeding.... whatever the article was she offered. (She always featured an article that showed a picture of someone of the same race as that of the householder, regardless of the article's subject.) That took courage, my friend, but what made it so memorable was that she totally skewered your objective to ease by those guys without making eye contact.

Thanks, Gladiator. Yeah, the specific god or concept of god makes all the difference to me. The five I picked are a pretty narrow selection.

Welcome!
This board reflects the lives of people on many paths, not just one. When we realize that there are more colors than black and white, more categories than us and them, more paths than left or right, we find out we aren't limited to 'one way or the other'. Good luck on your journey.

If it's a god in which the universe is simply a living, evolving energy, I wouldn't expect to have any different future than I expect now.
If it's the deist god, then my reaction would be about the same as above, but with more curiosity. (along with relief that I don't have to study abiogenesis)
If he turned out to be the epitome of love, I'd be happy and would expect him to promptly reject the bible and other holy books and explain the logistics of WHY he'd never rely on imperfect human language and convey such important instructions to us in writing. I'd also be curious as to what's been going on behind the scenes that we don't know about that prevented him from interceding sooner to end suffering or at least communicating with us.
But suppose he made an appearance and said, "Yeah, I inspired the Bible and preserved it for accuracy all those centuries. The King James version pretty much nails it." THEN I'd be very concerned... worried... not because of my newly-developed lack of faith, but because of his bipolar personality, his failure to stay true to his word, his lack of justice, his insatiable desire for human worship and praise, and all of the traits from the bible that make him seem like an abusive husband.
If he turned out to be Allah, well, I suppose I'd be dead before I could form an opinion.

I'll have to write up a summary one of these days when I'm at home.
I'll add this for now: the elder who said that 'the 42 kids who got mauled by she-bears would certainly be resurrected'... after we left the room he said he was suprised at my "lack of bible knowledge"... presumably because I questioned his assertion that those kids would be resurrected.
He also said that my wife didn't seem too sure about her answers, as if she didn't really have confidence in what she believes or disbelieves. But one of the more observant elders pointed out that she seemed more like she didn't want to say the wrong thing in front of them and was choosing her words carefully.

Listener:
I gather you haven't read the bible as there is much to say about this.
Firstly, God's existance is proven beyond a doubt, just look around you and see his creation. we also have a communication from him in the form of the bible in which he explains much about himself, his creations, the past and the future.
There are many that choose to ignore this as not tangible enough but it is clear fom the bible that no man is able to see God. At the time of Armageddon God has said that all people will come to know that he is God. Others may have opinions about this but it would appear that all will know that he is God because it will give those people who did not understand his existance an opportunity to worship him before his final judgement day.
The bible says that even Satan knows that Jehovah exists but chooses to express his own free will in being disobedient to him, we have that choice too and that is our responsibility.
I gather you haven't read the KORAN as there is much to say about this.
Firstly, ALLAH's existance is proven beyond a doubt, just look around you and see his creation. we also have a communication from him in the form of the KORAN in which he explains much about himself, his creations, the past and the future.
There are many that choose to ignore this as not tangible enough but it is clear fom the KORAN that no man is able to see ALLAH. At the time of Al-Malhama Al-Kubra, ALLAH has said that all people will come to know that he is ALLAH. Others may have opinions about this but it would appear that all will know that he is ALLAH because it will give those people who did not understand his existance an opportunity to worship him before his final judgement day.
The KORAN says that even IBLIS knows that ALLAH exists but chooses to express his own free will in being disobedient to him, we have that choice too and that is our responsibility.
