I agree that religion has always divided families, Debator. But for the sake of argument, if all religions but one are wrong, does that justify dividing of all the non-JW families?

This is one thing that helped me realize that Judeo-Christian infrastructure and the bible are all about control. That something so subjective can have such a powerful effect on an otherwise loving bond is sickening.

It is a notable human condition that we gravitate to those that share the same goals as us and avoid those that don't.

Agreed. Many folks on this board are seeking truth, which shares no goals as bias or prejudice.

Who is doing the rejecting? Like I said earlier Religion is a life-choice if someone chooses a different life they are rejecting their previous one.

I was. Your perception of "choice" is, for lack of a better term, f#cked up. You have this concept of free will that goes against everything "free will" should really mean.

When did Sab (if born in) EVER have a choice in the matter without the fear of losing family and friends? Not once. There was no choice without alienating repercussions. It's like if you told an employee they have a choice to attend a conference call but, uh, if they choose not to, they're fired. So the employee calls his wife and says, "Honey, I've gotta attend a conf call, I can't make lunch."

"Aw, you don't have any choice?"

"Well, yeah, I do but if I don't attend I'm fired."

"Okay, so you DON'T have any choice."

"No, I do but...."

BY DEFINITION, THAT IS NOT FREE WILL! Purple is not yellow. Green is not orange. Red is not blue. They stand at opposite ends.

If someone wants to keep the familial bonds strong they would have to respect their parents life-choice especially if they want to live in that home. I am a Jehovah's witness why would I invite anyone that says "I hate Jehovah's witnesses!" into my home? They are saying they hate me!

I haven't argued that. Parents can make whatever rules they like for family members living in their home. Why are we discussing this?

They would be unable to hide it and the consequences of believing this. The scenario of this debate is not just rejecting a religion you were brought up in but actively fighting against it as a life-choice.

So again, perhaps you could stop evading my question about the Mormon family and just answer it.

Interesting, I have done a whole lot more than you and am open about it but I have not had action taken against me at all.v

Sab, we could've faded but my PO dad has this anti-nepotism thing going. Always has. He turned in my "questioning emails" (that I'd sent to my mom) to the BOE and pressured them to keep pursuing me until so they could pull us into a JC hearing.

A small part of me used to respect it but after this episode I see it as having an unnatural, misplaced loyalty to a concept over one's own child. I've stopped making excuses for my father(s).

If you're going to start a well-equipped search for truth you need to learn critical thinking first. That means you set aside bias and presupposition. Where would that leave you?

The Society no longer limits the term "apostate" to someone leaving and trying to draw others along into their own little cult. They now say it is, or can be, simply a standing away from the "truth".

That is how my wife and I were charged with apostasy and DF'd.

I think being an activist against any Religion is a waste of time.

You think raising awareness about something you've experienced to be harmful to a family is a waste of time? Is raising drug awareness a waste of time in schools?

If I left a religion because I questioned it's teachings I wouldn't become an activist. I would spend my time more productively searching for God's true faith.

You show a real lack of empathy and critical thinking here, to be blunt.

Again, pretend you're a Mormon who was blind to reality your entire life and you finally realized what was going on when you reached adulthood. You brought up some issues you found in your own personal study (not exMormon websites). You were rejected by your family. You never had a real choice in the matter so it's rather unfair that when you're finally OLD ENOUGH to recognize the problems with the LDS church, your family disowns you.

Do you want to see others go through the same thing you went through?? If you truly give a damn about others, you should speak out about what you know. Right now you can't even entertain the idea that your precious truth isn't what it claims so you evade empathy.
