When I read this, I am struck by the image of master to dog relationship. As this is meant to be between a man and a woman, can she also demand total obedience, fidelity and loyalty from her partner?

Why would I ever give another person total unthinking obedience? What if I was asked to do what I didn't want to? What I felt unconscionable?
But once that freedom is sold, the slaveowner can choose to do with his slave however he wants. He can starve them.
A freeman can determine his own path. He can trade his birthright for soup.
I wonder what that slave meant? I think there is a huge difference between a well fed slave and a starving free man. Self-determination.
As a woman, I don't want to be "kept" literally. I would like to be cared for. The main difference for me is, a loving relationship is chosen. It is like the relationship between friends, where neither owns or controls the other, yet they both choose to be together, moment by moment. They each choose to care for eachother. Neither keeps the other.
How do you see it?

I think ownership directly conflicts with self-determination and obviously interferes with "respect and honor, love and cherish." I mean, how can you love and cherish something when controlling them, and taking away a most precious basic right?
I think the very act of control is what smothers out any love that could've grown. I think about this not only in the man/woman husbandly owner/ownee relationship, but also in the God/believer relationship.
Any who believe they are slaves of Christ/God and feel they can love God, I'd like to know if that's possible.
