I wasn't allowed to listen to Blondie's "Call Me" (from American Gigalo) or Paul Anka's "Havin' My Baby" or Smokey Robinson's "Cruisin'", or "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds".......even "Hotel California" was highly questionable.......and lets not forget the guy who started all the badness and single-handedly corrupted an entire generation of innocent young girls when he dared to swivel his hips on telly....

bad songs
by freedom96 in.
i was reading a post that reminded me of the songs that were popular but was wrong to listen to for various reasons.. we all remember puff the magic dragon being about drugs, which i hear was just a rumour.. another i remember was let it be by the beatles, which was " catholic based about mary the mother of jesus" when apparently it was written about paul mccartney's own mother.
shows what they know.. which songs do you remember that were "bad" that we were not supposed to listen to?

ISLAM, JWS AND JUSTICE
by Mary in.
here is yet another example of islam and their "justice" system and although jws don't kill you physically, they can kill you emotionally and spiritually for the exact same thing that this professor was charged with..... .

Dolphins are really an interesting species........I think I heard when Elliot Gonzalaes (that little boy from Cuba whose mother drown while attempted to come to America) was in the waters off Cuba after their boat went down, that dolphins were swimming around him, preventing shark attacks........not sure if this was true or a rumour, but their amazing 'affection' for humans is truly remarkable.

USA: catholic church likely to file for bancrupcy
by Realist inny times: bankruptcy said likely for boston's archdiocese
by pam belluck
oston, dec. 1 the roman catholic archdiocese of boston is likely to declare bankruptcy as a way to grapple with the hundreds of pending lawsuits filed against the church in the crisis involving sexual abuse by members of the clergy, a senior financial adviser to the archdiocese said today.
-
Mary
Actually, that statement is a bit premature.....I was just watching CNN and they said it's highly unlikely that they actually would file for bankruptcy, simply because the Catholic Church does not want to divulge all their funds and what it's been used for.

What's your favorite Xmas carol?
by Scully in.
my two favorites are a toss up between john lennon's "so this is christmas" and the "little drummer boy" - the one where bing crosby and david bowie are singing together.. love, scully
-
Mary
It's a toss up......I love "O Holy Night", "Rockin' Round the Christmas Tree" by Brenda Lee, and of course "Blue Christmas" by Elvis.......
When I was a kid, I conveniently "forgot" to give the teacher the note from my parents asking to excuse me from any Christmas singing etc........I'd sit there along with everybody else and sing sing sing!!!
I certainly never felt as good singing kingdom melodies, that's for sure!

Being Sound In Mind Means You Stay Away From World
by minimus ina new public talk reviews what being sound in mind refers to.
the speaker mentioned that in order to please jehovah and show that you have "soundness of mind", you should not associate with anyone that is not in the "truth", to the extent possible.
he re-read that comment a second time for emphasis.

Not only do they tell US what to avoid, they're also trying to re-write history and tell us exactly what Christians should and shouldn't have done 1800 years ago. Yesterday's Watchtower study in paragraph 7&8 says in part:
"Chariot races held in vast oblong arenas....were doubtless very exciting, but they were unacceptable for Christians because the crowds often got violent.........Clearly, the Roman circus was no place for Christians (so I guess no JWs today ever better go to a hockey game) ...........What of the famous Roman baths?........many of the Roman baths were huge establishments......... although theoretically, times were set aside for each sex to use the baths, mixed bathing was often tolerated." (oh the scandal!).....Thus a legitimate instituion could easily have been used by Satan a a trap for Christians. Wise ones abstained. (and they know that how???)"
Paragraph 9&10 say:
"Gambling was a favorite pastime among the people when the Roman Empire was at it's height........Gambling added spice to people's lives for it offered the hope of making easy money (what a terrible thing, offering hope!).......In many developed countries, the situation today is similar......many people have more leisure time than ever (not if you're a faithful Dub).....State lotteries give even the poor a glimmer of hope (imagine that! giving the poor a a glimmer of hope! How utterly terrible!)....ln some countries, mixed bathing in saunas and hot springs is popular......Satan tries to entice God's servants by means of worldly leisure activities (yep.....imagine trying to have some fun - it's all Satan's fault).
I love the crap they give you about gambling.......you can't spend $1.00 on a lottery ticket cause that's GREEEEEED, but it's okay for a brother to gamble and lose a hundred gran in the stock market - that's a BUSINESS venture, not being greedy!!!

Going door to door in extreme weather
by JH inthis morning as i got up, it was 0 f outside.
this morning at 9 o'clock as usual the same witnesses will go door to door at this temperature.
i already saw them going door to door at -25 f. i wonder what it would take for them to say it is too cold or too hot to go out in the field service?
-
Mary
We'd go out when it was cold, but not when it was absolutely freezing.........as stunned as our elder body was, they did not expect you to go out if your life was endangered. They would say "if you've got a study you can go to that's fine, but don't do street territory".
One time I was in the car group with the CO and his wife when it was a wee bit chilly. Sister Battleax decided to suck up to the CO when I suggested it was coffee break time by saying "we don't need to stop for coffee and I think we can sacrifice 20 more for Jehovah." The CO was not impressed and said to me "where's the nearest coffee shop?" LOL!! Sister Battleax was totally embarassed and didn't say a whole lot more!!

White Christmas, QUESTION?
by zev inin my part of the world, it *usually* snows in the winter time.
also, because of that fact that it usually snows, dubs were inclined to hope for no snow at christmas time.. they felt that it was a good thing and would ruin christmas for those celebrating it if it didn't snow.. (at least thats how i interped the remarks i heard.).
how did you feel about a white christmas when you were a dub?.
-
Mary
I must admit, I always did, and still do, pray for nice weather......not cus' I want to ruin anyone's Christmas, but because I HATE winter with a passion...........I think Canada and the USA should be split vertically instead of horizontally, so we could frigging move somewhere WARM with sandy beaches and palm trees and soothing oceans LOL!!! I'm sure Americans would go for that!!!!.............well, you'll have to excuse me while I throw salt on my front porch so I don't break my neck on the ice out there!!!
