  35yrs old going on 15 !

  my husband and i have been out of the jw for about 10 months now, not d/a or d/f yet.

  they just havent caught us on some things they could get us for !

  but that is all fluff, we dont beleive a thing they teach anymore.

  WildTurkey and LyinEyes,

  You two sound like a lot of fun. Joy2bfree and I are out for less than a year as well. I'm just getting over the depression of loosing my fantasy. After all it was something we were willing to die for. Losing something as valuable as life itself must result in grief.

  But feeling guilty about having fun hasn't hit me yet. I have no hobbies, too old for sports, hate computer games, but love to sleep in on Saturday and Sunday mornings. And I did get myself a great motorcycle last summer, a Shadow. No guilt.

  Like you we read together, many different translations of the Bible. I have always been a researcher too. We do not intend to loose our faith in God. I don't take the Bible so literally anymore and I'm not sure what I believe on a lot of subjects, but I know there is a great message in the Christain scriptures. Hope you feel the same.

  Mean while LyinEyes, enjoy yourself and dont forget to take care of that Turkey.

  my sister hasn't talked or communicated with us for nearly 2 years.

  an exhaustive study has been done on the behavior of cult groups - in several books about "cults", they enumerated 21 major points where you can identify the traits of a cult-like organization.

  bear in mind that the authors did not target jehovah's witnesses as a specific group at all, which made it all the more frightening!

  but this dissertation generalized all cult-groups existing in the world.... 1. control-oriented, arrogantly assertive, power-posturing leadership.. 2. authoritarian and legalistic with dictatorial, dogmatic doctrines that are proclaimed to be "the truth".. 3. claims of being the channel of communication between god and humankind; having unique knowledge that makes them special.

  in my religious and cultural heritage, human sacrifice has always been abhored.

  yet, that is what the christ was; a human sacrifice.. the jewish writings condemned human sacrifice, but the christians reveled in the notion that a man died in their place.. human sacrifice is the foundation of the christian faith.

  Who has sayings of everlasting life?

  despite all the problems i have had with many people in the jehovah's witness's religion, i would not know the basic truths that i have learned if it were not for jehovah's witness's.. the hope that learned, i still have; though i no longer attend the meetings i miss the meetings, personal and family problems that really no one other than god him self can fully understand at that time so many years ago.. i know now that i have atemped in the past to haave the brothers and sisters to understand what i my self could not grasp about my problems that perplexed me beyond what i could deal with.. sense that time i have also learned that it really is jehovah that i should render my service to and no one else, it him i must fuloly rely on for aid compleatly not humans.. thanks, pepper

  Hello Pepper,

  You are right, we have learned a lot from the Witnesses.

  The personal and family problems you refer to are probably problems others here will relate to, but you do not need to share those until you are ready.

  Many here have had "problems ..with many people in the Jehovah's Wtiness's religion" myself included.

  So go ahead and share your griefs, keep relying on God. Look through the posts for loving support. You will find it.

  My girlfr and I went to the Assembly Hall today

  5 years removed from being inside the indianapolis assembly hall of jehovah's witnesses, 4 years from attending a meeting at the kingdom hall, this morning my girlfriend and i walked into the assembly hall.

  we were taking an early morning walk in our jogging clothes in downtown indy.

  she asked if there was anywhere i'd like to go.

  Yes, it the pain will subside. This is not the pain of 'leaving God's organization'. This is the pain of leaving what you believed was God's organization. The grief is real but the consequences non-exitant. But there is no way to escape the grieving process.

  Stick it out. Just read everything you can with an open mind.

  Hello coult9056,

  I love real stories. You are relatively new here but you are 4 years
  removed from the system. I agree with what you said, "The building itself is very beautiful, as are the people, (they're just wrong)".

  Also:
  

  I couldn't help but feel a little sorry for those inside whose weekend was spent sitting in those chairs all day, all weekend. Really, it felt like a released prisoner walking through the prison cellblock as a free man.

  Beautiful. One year ago I was Correctional Officer in that prison, not realizing I was at the same time a cellmate.

  You seem determined to never return. I hope you have read Crisis of Conscience by R Franz.
