thank you simon for this place.
it's a good place for good people and i learned that really 99.99% of all people are good.
just learning to accept others as they are and to unlearn the many prejudices that are so ingrained by religion, has been for me an education of greater worth than any university education!.
Glad you found your voice, IW.

well, the wts has directed all elders in canada to read a letter concerning the child abuse issue.
it is the same whitewash as read in the us a while back when dateline aired.
it seems that on the 'eve of destruction' (ie bbc and panorama) the wts has decided to read a letter that was obviously penned weeks ago.
JT,
You made several good points in your post above.
While I believe the local (United States) changes in procedure are good and the result of 'local' efforts pressing for these changes, you are probably right about the WT motive and the localized and limited affect of these policy changes. Not a change of heart but still an improvement of local policy that will result if fewer victims at least in the US, and that is over one million of the total gang. But then, what if we find out years from now that the problem was many times worse through-out the world?
As usual your have a broad scope on the issue. I'm glad you are getting some 'degrees' to legitimize the greater insight you consistently display. Glad to see you have not left us entirely here.

i have just learned that there was another jw suicide in western washington (south king county) last weekend.
the man was a young adult, in good standing, married and doing well financially.
i can't reveal more, and this one didn't hit the news either.
Damn, Pistoff
Your experience is getting me the same.
I went to a GB member with suicidal tendencies in 1976 and got a similar display of indifference.
Love your children and teach them to disregard ANYONE who does not understand their feelings.

Hello Pistoff,
I see you are realitively new. Yet your state of mind is obviously shared here by the posters on this thread.
You said:
I am crashing that my faith was probably misplaced in men rather than to see God working in all areas of life and belief.
I am e-mailing you a comment I made to someone else of simular state of mind.

omg, this is some of the funniest stuff i've read in ages.... flight log .
never let it be said that ground crews and engineers lack a sense of .
humor.
SYN,
ROTFLMAO. We are going to print this for our daughter since she works at the local airport.
Should be good for some laughs!

expatbrit,
While I agree much more could be done I'm not sure it is true:
Quote: "Those in power know full well that this will do nothing to address the pervasive atmosphere of pressurised silence within the organisation."
If the message is consistently conveyed to immediately call the authorities then the atmosphere within the congregations will change. The present level of 'theocratic' tolerance will fade and the secrecy (confidentiality) shield will be destroyed.
You are right in pointing out that nothing is said yet about helping victims, backing and supporting those who speak up. The door is still left open to punish those who do what is legal and right.
You said "this will do nothing to address the pervasive atmosphere of pressurized silence". I agree it does not say enough but I wouldn't say "this will do nothing". It seems to be steps in the right direction although forced by caring "apostates".

HS,
Good to hear from you again. You said:
I can report that Legal in Canada have been instructed to advise anybody calling them with an allegation of child abuse, that they should immediately call the authorities....and then goodbye, as in, do not talk to us about this, talk to the Police.
This is very encouraging. Not that I am admiring the WT stand but that the efforts and sacrifices of so many people (who are now fight attempts to DF them) have resulted in needed changes that may protect more children within the WT society. I have heard an isolated experience within the U.S. that also indicated the WT society is starting to handle matters in the proper and more legal way.
They are going to keep altering their policies to do the right thing and about 5 years from now they will publish a letter or WT article patting themselves on the back as being the faithful and wise servant of God divinely directed in this matter of child abuse.
What matters is those who are speaking up have initiated these changes. I'm am proud of them.

if you believe in god, then i'll make the assumption that you think god is a force of "good", and his commandments reflect this "goodness.
based on that assumption, would you say that god's commandments are good because: god commanding them makes them good?
orgod has knowledge of the inherent goodness of certain commandments, and selects them because of this goodness?.
Hello Xpat,
Good to hear from you.
I believe in God but I feel God is often misunderstood by mixing the old revelation of God with the one Jesus portrayed. Why two different impressions is another issue. But the God of "commandments" is not the Christian God.
1 John 5:3&4 says:
3For this is what the love of God means, that we observe his commandments; and yet his commandments are not burdensome, 4 because everything that has been born from God conquers the world. And this is the conquest that has conquered the world, our faith.
As first this scripture might seem to be calling Christians to get in line and obey. But what are his commandments? Just two, Love God and Love your neighbor. Mat 22:37-40.
37 He said to him: "You must love Jehovah your God with your whole heart and with your whole soul and with your whole mind.
38 This is the greatest and first commandment. 39 The second, like it, is this, You must love your neighbor as yourself. 40 On these two commandments the whole Law hangs, and the Prophets."
This is the summary and fulfilment of all the law and the Prophets. The old commandments were part of the "shadow" of the reality and the reality has only two laws written into hearts.
Sorry to sound preachy but obviously I feel there are only two laws.

i told this story once before, a long time ago--i think, so long ago that it must have been on h2o instead of here--so here it is again, fwiw.. while i was still studying, at the age of 22, the guy who was studying with me told me something he had seen at a convention once.
he wanted me to realize how close to god the anointed were, what a love of the bible they had.
he told me about hearing one of the governing body members (i can't recall who) giving the keynote address on sunday afternoon of the convention, you know, the big one, that was advertised on the handouts all over the city.
Comf,
VERY INTERESTING! Let me tell another short story and tell me if this is the same guy.
One Monday night at Bethel Pappy Knorr was out of the country so another GB member was to conduct the family Watchtower study which he often did despite the fact that he was basically blind. The Bethel family was lead to believe the articles were read to him and I memorized them. He gave a short introduction to the study article and on paragraph one the GB member, without looking down, stated the question and called on the brother pre-assigned to comment. After a long pause the brother apologetically corrected the GB member for apparently starting the study in the wrong article.
The Gb member calmly apologized, shifted to the appropriate article with new introductory remarks and the right question to paragraph one. At the time I was in awe. I was only a couple rows back from the front and could see he did not have a WT in front of him.
The GB member was F. Franz. All he had to memorize was the introduction, the questions and the names of the assigned commenters. That is a big enough accomplishment alone, but by this incident we were lead to believe he had memorized at least two weeks worth of WT studies.
Were we SCAMMED??
