  Regarding the PBS special on The Mormons previously discussed....

  i finally got around to watching the entire special - its 4 hours long but very fascinating.. i'm not sure if its been posted on here, but you can watch it online:.

  if you get a chance - go under part two and watch chapter four entitled "the mission", chapter 6 "dissenters and exiles", and chapter 7 "disciplinary actions" ........those chapters are so freakishly similar to jw's that it sent chills down my spine.. actually, the entire special made me think how similar these religions are - mainly as high control authoritarian groups.

  Nah, just bring a few fish and and loaves of bread and I'm sure Debator or Bane can miraculously multiply them for us all.

  Sweet home Alabama is too far away for me, but I will be at my cabin with some friends that day, so I'll be thinking of y'all. Have one for me snowbird!!!

  Dang it!!! I'll miss it. I invited some friends up to my cabin. Totally slipped my mind. I actually wanted to make that meeting to see what the general reaction was. Though I'm pretty sure it's already been covered pretty well in this thread. Looking 4ward to see what those who go to the meeting have to say.

  Welcome!! I've had a very similar experience to yours. Still feel stuck and torn between two worlds. Was also able to see first-hand the lack of love and lame excuses for the lack of humility when it comes to admitting we've been wrong in the past and that people sometimes are really just plain evil. That's also one of the reasons I decided to join this post. I needed a place to rant and just talk. Feel free to check my first post or to PM if you wanna talk more. Later

  LOL Sacolton!!! I always disliked that song. And brothers who didn't bother to look up an appropriate song would always use it as a wild card. Heard it for everything from meeting attendance and field service, to give-more-money and Caring for the elderly.

  Yeah, I do have the old songbook. I was actually pretty excited when they released it last year. Then once I went through it and made all the comparisons, boy was I disappointed!!!! Once I had actually examined it I saw the whole "songs were too difficult and outdated doctrine" explanation was not really accurate. The great songs they left out alltogether, the good ones they changed, the bad (boring) ones they carried over. With a few exceptions all the completely new ones are not really that great. Mostly of the new songbook is just plain BLA! Not really my idea of singing to the Creator... The old one at least had some more juice to it. Makes me think back to the Psalms, some are vey long while other are very short. And they talk about nearly everything. I agree with B447, something just doesn't feel right in the last few years, a great disturbance in the force indeed. In the words of Mace Windu: "I sense a plot to kill the Witnesses"...

  The old Testament does contain numerous examples of wars fought by God's people. The difference, as you yourselft said it, is that they were being fought at God's command, at a time when God was directly dealing with the Israelites. However, no one going to war today can make such a claim. Jesus commended the centurion on his faith, not on his career. And Cornelius' convertion, being a Gentile and a high-ranking member of the army, was to prove that God's salvation was now available to people of all nations and ways of life, not to prove He now backed the Roman army. I will kill and die to defend my family and friends from anything/anyone that might harm them. But not because of political differences between countries. Even when thugs break into the house, usually keeping quiet and cooperating yields better results than trying to retailate. Wars are once again the result of people in power manipulating those they're supposed to protect. I will not follow Mr President off to war any more so than I would follow th GB off a cliff. If they don't see eye to eye, they can settle it personally on the rink.
