  Aude: Such great observations about the Sister TM flaunting her hope to a mother who is in the process of losing her beloved child and the "maybe" qualifier! Thank you so much for sharing your VERY INTERESTING experience with the SisterTM you were working with on the talk. It's remarkable on so many different levels. When was that experience? Perhaps that sister at the age of 60 (and after believing for decades) came to realize she had been duped about how close Armageddon was, and that perhaps the Society TM was wrong about their scriptural interpretations. The Society TM had to get more and more creative with their explanations as things weren't panning out as previously thought over the years. It is now to the point that we have the Overlapping Generation explanation that strains all possible credibility to waaaaaaaay beyond the breaking point.

  It's not too tough now to see the Society TM is grasping at straws in doctrinal desperation. There is still a lot of clean up that will need to happen to explain away the failings of Freddy Franz's fanciful imaginings.

  Even with more people waking up, there are so many who, no matter what, do not doubt anything coming from the publishing corp's Brooklyn HQ. I have family who, if they were told in the literature via New Light TM that everything they've been taught is to currently be considered Old Light TM and what they now need to do is to give every penny to Brooklyn HQ and lie naked in the streets squeezing their nipples until they bleed, waiting for a personal chariot from Jehovah to carry them to a shiny new planet where the real paradise is, they would be falling over themselves to be the first one to get naked for Watchtower Corp TM .

  Honestly, it wouldn't matter how ridiculous the New Light TM gets, they are believers in the Watchtower Corp TM , not the Bible.

  Xanthippe: Thank you for your reply. You make a good point about the differences between those who do think about these issues and those who don't. The outlook between these two different groups is polar opposite! The questions you ask about the "maybe" qualifier in the FB post are the exact same ones I am wondering. It seems to be a new thing among some Dubs -- the thought that "maybe" Armageddon is coming? Wow!

  Billy: Of course, they don't see it that way. But when you put it that way, it does make things pretty clear. Too bad they can't see that.

  Simon: That is exactly what they are saying. There is an utter lack of realization about what non Dubs think of this kind of post/response.

  Desirous: I wonder if that's true. Do the vast majority really not believe this key aspecdt of the religion any more -- that Armageddon is literally closer than your underwear? It seems mixed among my relatives (who are almost all still very much in the bOrg). Some seem to be doing some more long-term planning yet giving lip service to Armageddon being around the corner. Others believe fervently that it will be any second. I wish we had some real data on the broader beliefs among the wider JW community.

  first of all thanks for all the kind words!!!

  i am over whelmed by the responses.

  i work very hard through the week and the only time i can reply is in the early morning hours, i read the respones on my iphone through out the day, if there was a way to log on with the phone, i would.

  Great part 2 post, James. Besty provided a link to the Star Trek reference for BORG (resistance is futile). Many also write bOrg -- lower case b, capital O -- in reference to BORG as well as the Org or Organization.

  I have a question for you, if I may. Do you have family in The Truth TM or is the need to fade slowly more about The Friends TM ?

  Remember, you don't need to have all of the answers right away. Take your time if you can.

  i had a conversation yesterday with my wife, who seems to think every good thing that happens to her just has to be jehovah, and every bad thing, she just knows is satan.

  this irritates me to no end.

  i told her yesterday that i have trouble praying to have relatively petty thing resolved in my life, meanwhile around the world, many people are raped mutilated, tortured, and killed everyday.

  I can certainly understand how that could be the case, Mum. I honestly cannot imagine working on a children's ward. I couldn't do it. I would be a mess. I have three children and I just couldn't. Being a father is the most wonderful thing that has ever happened to me. I would be an emotional wreck and I can understand how working in such a situation would call into question core beliefs.

  The situation I wrote about is tragic. Beyond tragic. It is gut wrenching. I can't hardly even stand to think about it. The Sister's comments just added insult to injury, I felt, to that poor woman who is currently living many people's worst nightmare. It was so cold hearted. But at the same time, I thought it was interesting with the qualified "maybe" that was in there.

  Suavojr - we certainly do not know what the future will bring. But JWs certainly believe(d) they know what the future brings.

  And, Band, your post brings up interesting questions regarding gender differences among the Brothers and Sisters. You have me thinking now...

  i love this tv show and it's a great reason to send all the kiddies (my under 18 set) out of the room (they're on summer break and have liberal bedtimes).

  I hope to get to that point, Josie -- to be able to watch something and send the kids out of the room. I like your approach.

  My children are so sensitive. I don't even turn the TV on any more and they've never seen network TV. A few kids things on Netflix. I pay for cable and don't watch it. :(

  I have a close relative who has a baby with a terminal medical condition. He could go at any moment or last a few years. But the ultimate outcome is that he will die very young. My relative is a Witness, and the child was taken into State custody for medical purposes (the JW family have no say over his medical care -- the State does) so that he coud receive blood transfusions as needed.

  On Facebook this morning, my relative posted about someone she has met whose child has the same condition. That child is terminal and his time left is now very short. That child's mom posted an update indicating that it won't be long now. My relative and this other mother are posting on each other's status updates to support each other through.

  In response to these posts, a Sister TM from my relative's congregation wrote: "We have a hope that a lot of people do not have and maybe soon Gods kingdom will wipe out this world." My first reaction was how cold this Sister TM is that she would post this right where this poor non JW mother is sharing about her dying child. My second reaction was: "MAYBE? Wot da wot?" Things have surely changed since I left the bOrg. It used to be that there was no doubt that Jehovah WOULD wipe out this Wicked System of Things TM ...no ifs ands buts or maybes about it and that it WOULD be not only soon, but any second now! Zero doubts. Absolutely no way, no how that it wouldn't be any moment now. Armageddon was so close, it was closer than our underwear, closer than our nose hair.

  So that "maybe" was a shock even more than the mean "we have a hope others don't..." that clearly left the poor mother of the dying child among those who do not have hope. I know to expect that from Witnesses, but not these new qualified words like "maybe Jehovah will..."

  i have served 20 years as an elder, 5 years as an ms. was on the district committee in 2010, held various positions on the district , circuit, and rbc level.

  probably been on more than 100 judicial committees and even an appeals committee.

  was the coordinator in our congregation and deleted because adult child was df ( i kicked him out at the time of his wrongdoing, but that wasn't enough for thr brothers).

  James - Welcome. I enjoyed reading your introductory post. I think it's pretty typical for a lot of people to lurk for a while before posting. My guess is that most lurkers never post. I do know that I lurked off and on for several years (from the early days of JWD to about three years ago, I guess?) before ever joining and posting.

  There's something about an elder waking up to the truth about the Truth TM that gives me some hope.
