Studying JWs?
by bazackward inso i read this board quite often, but i don't post a lot since i'm not a jw or ex-jw.
i recently had an idea that i thought could be a lot of fun, but i wanted to get some opinions on it.. i'm going to school for my mba and in my business ethics & social responsibility class, i am required to do an "out of your comfort zone" project.
i'll paste the rules for the project below.

Hi bazackward,
Jeans and polo shirt is definately the required garments to wear considering your assignment is to do with stepping out of the comfort zone, you may feel comfortable now but when in a KH you will definately feel out of your comfort zone ( the looks they will give you etc)
Also if you want to have fun, please look/ research at the material that is going to be studied that week, then put your hand up and answer a question in your own words from you own research thats not in the paragraph, maybe ask them a question. Unfortunately they probably wont pick you for an answer as your a newcomer an not yet indoctinated, again that will make you feel out of your comfort zone for not being acknowledged but your reasoning on it all make for a great A* essay. so many arguments for and against, more againsts just from one meeting.
Wish I could be there with you, have fun and all the best for your project, keep us updated.

I think I may have planted a seed......
by happyexjw inso i have been lurking on the jehovhas witnesses, history, publications...blah blah blah facebook page.
a few days ago i entered on a discussion on jesus geniology.
i mentioned about the missing years from 12 - 30 of jesus life not in the bible.

Its the same reason when I read on from my last post, the discussions that where taking place after and noticing my name being mentioned and her logical reasoning as a study defending what I was saying, made me too.

So I have been lurking on the Jehovhas witnesses, history, publications...blah blah blah facebook page. A few days ago I entered on a discussion on Jesus Geniology. I mentioned about the missing years from 12 - 30 of jesus life not in the bible. Basically if people could recall his years from birth to 12 and from 30 till his death what about from 12 - 30. I had a lot of explanations for example one (Earthly Envoy- you may recogise him if you have looked at this page) said that his EXPLOITS in those years are not important he only became the messiah at 30. Any way the conversation changed loads and maybe I came across to them as ranting as I related to personal experiences etc.
But there was this one person who has been studying for a year who was totally disgusted with the way they were speaking to me and also the way they spoke to her. She critisised the way they were belittling those asking questions as in her opinion no question is silly to ask. She said that he was giving a bad name to the JW's and this is the same treatment she recieved in other churches and thought JW's were different, loving and patient etc. she is glad that she has seen this treatment before getting baptised. They called her too sensitive and being swayed by emotion and not bible standards. This infuriated her more, she said that she will print the discussion out and present it to her study, and hoping her reactions would not be the same, if its true then she will present with the elders again if its the same then she no longer wants to be part of this organisation. She said that she recommended her friends to this page and they came back with same experience of being talked down to with their questioning etc.
I have now been banned from posting anything to that page (what a suprise ) and sent her an email from my response to comments they made about me and explaining to her that I was now banned.
Either this person is an 'apostate' and trying to imprint logical thoughts or she really is interested and starting to see the light. fingers crossed for the latter, but fairplay and thank you for the former.
I will keep you posted if I hear anything back from her.

Counseling and Therapy
by Voices indoes anyone know how to get funding for counseling?
sliding scale therapist don't do it for me.
i don't feel like they know what they're talking about.

Voices, unfortunally there are not many places that provide funding for this. From my experience, I knew I needed this service but did not have the means to pay for it. I dont know what your finanical circumstances are but there are some places where you can make a voluntary contribution.
In my situation I was sort of in denial, i knew i needed it, I was lost and depressed, the thought of having to pay for it depressed me even more. Then I got to a point in my life where I realised that this would probably be the 'best investment of my life'. It truly was, I dont think my counseller was remotely prepared for what I told him. But he made me feel safe and secure and it was totally non judemental, and I came away accepting myself for who I am.
The best therapist to go for is someone who deals with congitive bahavour therapy.
Sorry for not being of much help, but I hope you find someone to who you can talk to.

For born in's: how did your parents get you to answer up?
by highdose inmy mum used to smack me on the arm with a rolled up wt when it was my turn to answer, she said it was " to make sure you didn't forget!".
most of the time i ended up just yelling "ow!
" and rubbing my arm, but she never got the message.. another way was to scream at me non stop all the way home after the meetings if i hadn't answered up.

BBC INTERVIEW EMAILS ONLY FROM SW ENGLAND PLEASE
by cantleave ini have just recieved a call from emma, she has been in-undated with emails and has pointed out that as she simply a presenter for bbc radio somerset, a local station, please only email her only if you live in south west england.. her editor has seen the magnitude of the response and realises that this could a big story and looking at escalating to a national level, so the point has been made.. also she wanted to point out that she is only the presenter and the interview and research was undertaken by tammy macallister and she deserves the credit.. it's great to see the exjw community spring into action, but please respect emma's in box!.

The real WT deal on 1 Cor 5 -- shunning non-household family members.
by FatFreek 2005 ini don't want to hijack that thread with the british interview of an ex-jw who is now shunned by his mother and brother(s).
the interviewer then properly and fairly contacted a wt official who gave the party line answer.
those of us who have really studied wt references know that this lawyer-like answer actually follows wt teaching.

If we are going with the literal / leaglistic interpretation of that scripture, then as Sister's we are all excluded from the command. Paul did not say brother or sister just brother
