The one thing the Internet won't be able to do is draw people in, out of a sense of guilt or obligation like the door to door work does. A lot of people who were found in the door to door work didn't really buy into what they were hearing at first but were drawn in by a sense of obligation to those nice well meaning people who kept coming back and who they just couldn't say no to. They were drawn in little by little over time and the doctrines were broken to them gently. On the Internet, an interested person will be able to take the information at face value and will be able to look ahead to see what he is getting into before his sensibilities are clouded by a friendly relationship that has been carefully cultivated by a JW studying with him. While he is online, he can click around and do a little investigating of his own before he swallows the program hook line and sinker. If there is a group to join or a program to buy into out there, there will always be someone who will buy into it no matter how ridiculous it may be. It's a numbers game...the more contacts that are made, the higher the chances of finding that someone who will buy into it. The difference is, anyone becoming a JW in the future will not be able to say, as we can, that he didn't have a chance to really know what he was getting into or was kept in the dark about the organization he had joined until he had spent a good part of his life in it.

Will Embracing the Internet lead to Increased Growth for the Watchtower?
by jwfacts inmore important than the reduction in the size of the new magazine is that the watchtower will be actively promoting its website and encouraging people use it to download magazines.
my concern is that this has the potential to lead to an increase in growth for the watchtower.. the door-to-door preaching work has been one of the most inefficient means imaginable to gain converts, and done little more than tie up the time of active jws.
now, by directing people to the internet, witnesses can spread their message at an alarming rate for little cost.. do you feel that this has the potential to lead to a surge in growth of jehovah's witnesses?

They claim that those who leave the Org. revert to a "low sink of debauchery" like the nations.
I don't suddenly feel the need to do anything naughty just because I'm not a JW anymore.

The 6000 years is marked so only showing Armageddon was hoped for but not taught as definite or doctrine.
It may not have been a formal doctrine but they did state way back in 1966 that the "trumpets would be sounded within our own generation proclaiming liberty to earths inhabitants." Anyone, no matter what age, hearing a statement like that would naturally conclude that they would be included in the generation being spoken of.

Eating Blood v Transfusion . . . same thing?
by sizemik inthe wts ban on the transfusion of whole blood or primary components is established on a number of "principles" which when taken in their entirety give rise to the doctrine.. one important one is the refusal to distinguish between the consumption of blood by eating .
and the consumption of blood by surgically implanting it (transfusion).
we've all heard the "alcohol" analogy.
-

They also argue that the Bible says to ABSTAIN from blood. The alcohol argument is applied by asking " If a doctor told you to ABSTAIN from alcohol, would it be OK to infuse it into ones veins ? "
I wonder if the word ABSTAIN is a word that they entered into the New World Translation. I never checked to see what other Bibles say.

So since guns exist, and are out there already, would it not be better to allow law abiding citizens the ability to protect themselves from those that are armed and
have ill intentions toward others?
And that exactly why the citizens of America, as a whole, for good or for bad, want and have the right to bear arms.

Blood transfusions are legal in America and in Britian but a JW can't have one in either country, even to save a child's life . "Blood is sacred, life is in the blood and its against God's law to use if for any purpose" yadda yadda. But a JW in the U.S, carrying a gun with the intent to kill another human, if need be, is perfectly ok but in Britian it's not only illegal but it's also immoral for a JW to do so. Where's all this unity we hear about ?
Some here in America feel that if guns are outlawed, only the outlaws will have guns. But it seems to me a society that has a zero tolerance toward anyone owning or carrying a firearm is far more civilized and the odds of one encountering a lunitic with a gun at a door, shooting ones self, having ones child take their gun to school or having one's head blown off in a traffic altercation, are far lower if not non existent.

MsGrowingGirl20 When my Son and his Fiance' let their strong feelings for one another get the better of them, they went before the Elders about it. They were DF'd for not having turned themselves in sooner and for now refusing to break their engagement as the Elders advised them to. A few weeks after being Disfellowshipped my son was diagnosed with an agressive form of Cancer. During his surgery, Chemo treatments and a stint in the isolation ward, he and his Fiance' were shunned by every friend and family member they had known since childhood. He was living with us at the time so our phone stopped ringing as well. These loving people watched as this young man dragged himself bald sick and scared to every meeting so that he could be reinstated as soon as possible. We were abandoned in our darkes hour by our entire support system. The only ones who came to our aid were non Witness coworkers who were wonderful to us. The warm fuzzy feelings I had for life long friends who could allow this fine young fellow to possibly go to his grave whithout ever speaking to him again or even attending his funeral if it came to that, soon gave way to anger. The reality is that we had been projecting our own warm feelings onto those whom we though of as Brothers and Sisters only to find out the brotherhood is very conditional and one sided and will vanish at the say so of their leaders.
Once the magical Watchtower bubble is burst for you, you can see this group for what it is. Once you look beyond the warm fuzzy feelings you have for those you've known for years, you can truly look at the facts for what they are. You are no longer able to overlook little inaccuracies. It's these inaccuracies, when implemented, that become so dangerous or even evil.

My alarm clock is set for 6AM but if I hit the snooze button the alarm goes off again seven minutes later. What do you suppose is the first thing I think of when I see the numbers 6:07 glowing in the darkness ? That's right....the incorrect date of Babylons fall.
