The more one runs an event over in ones mind, the more firmly embedded it becomes in the circuitry of the brain. Make a point of dismissing these unwanted thoughts as soon as you notice you are having them. Shoo them away like one shoos' away flies at a picnic.....don't go there anymore. Replace these thoughts with ones you would rather think about....change the channel to something more upbuilding. Soon you'll be adept at recognizing them when they first occur and you will gain the ability to short circuit these episodes before they go far enough to spoil your day.

My wife's aunt always did her duty but told her 4 kids that if abortion would have been legal...a few of them wouldn't be here. She's the same one who gave her second child up for adoption and went to great lenghts to find him later when he was in his thirties and her other 4 had all grown up together. Surprisingly they are all really well adjusted, succesful and happy people and love their now elderly Mom and Dad dearly and argue over who gets to care for them. The brother who was adopted out was resentful that he was given away and missed growing up with a brother who was the spitting image of himself and 3 beautiful and fun sisters. Funny how things work out...one parent treats their kids well and the kids are a mess...another parent says and does some pretty unthinkable things yet the kids do alright...it's all kind of a crap shoot.

Your own mortality, how do you cope with it?
by CookieMonster ini've been a lurker here and an inactive jw for a number of years.
i've always had some annoying doubts but brushed it aside but over the last few years i've had time to "think" away from the wt.
perhaps there is no paradise, maybe no god and this life is all there is.

It's a difficult thing to grow up thinking that you're never gonna' die and then have to come to grips with that fact all at once rather than little by little as you grew up. All I can say is that it is easier if you trust that you'll do your best no matter what comes your way. Make a point of taking things a day at a time, doing the best you can each day to be pleasant to those around you, do healthy things to improve your chances of a healthy future and take small steps each day toward improving yourself or your life in the immediate future. If you find you are worrying, it is because you are thinking too far into the future. People never worry about the past, only have regrets or anger about things that could have been done better. The future is unknown and we often don't like not knowing what is going to happen. Get comfortable with that. Bring your thoughts into the present moment and what you can do today. Children are great at this and thats part of why they are so carefree. A certain amount of peace comes along with acceptance. As you grow into the idea that living forever isn't likely to happen and might not be such a good thing anyway, you'll find this topic a little easier to deal with. A little denial is OK in this area in fact it's probably healtier than being too realistic. Realists may be more accurate than optimists but they aren't necessarily happier. Who's to say what really happens after we die. I'm taking a wait and see attitude. It's out of my hands and may be none of my business.

I thought they were sent to the camps for simply being JW's, Jews or gay rather than for not joining the military.

It's odd that even though JW's believe Satan was behind Hitler, they also beleive any JW who would have given in under torture or threat of torture by this Satan "possessed" man, would suffer the same punishment from God... that of everlasting cutting off. This old man, had he signed that document, would have been viewed as someone who failed Jehovah and would have felt shame for the rest of his life even though Hitler and his gang were the ones who were the problem. All those that did die in concentration camps 70+ years ago have, along with Hitler, been dead all these years. Most of what they thought was the "truth" has been changed, Armegeddon still hasn't arrived...what was the point of all this supposed loyalty?

BROTHERS & SISTERS - READ THE BROCHURE!
by The Searcher injesus always used illustrations to help people reason on the import of what he was saying.
here is an illustration followed by a reality;.
imagine that your heart went out to all those poor people who suffered when fukushima blew up, so much so, that when an internationally renowned charity asked for donations to help those in need, you donated $5000 to the cause.

My impression when donating for Katrina relief was that the money would go to those who had little or no insurance coverage for the damage they sustained and that volunteers were helping those who were unable to pay for the labor needed to do the repairs. If someone had insurance coverage, other than a lack of laborers, why did the jw volunteers need to be involved? If one had insurance monies coming to them but there was a shortage of laborers, why couldn't they pay the volunteers for the work they did and let them donate it to the society if they chose to ? It seems like the society used this as a money making opportunity and a way to garner good P.R. For themselves.
I know a former JW who is used to be high level part of the International Building Committee who said he left the Org. because of all the corruption he saw while working in that capacity. For example, he said allegedly there were JW contractors/ suppliers secretly marking up the cost of labor and materials to make a profit off the funds donated by other JW's and other fraudulent goings on having to do with shuffling of funds and breaking of local building and zoning codes etc. Although this doesn't surprise me....I'm nevertheless very disappointed.

Governing Body Put Down Education Because The Sad Facts Show Higher Education Leads Lower Bull Tollerance
by frankiespeakin inas lamented by members of the governing body higher education is causeing many to leave the organization and so it is demonized by them.. subjects the governing body would hate to see young one study are numerous.
they would like to keep things very simple it is easier to control people.
they would prefere to go backward in technology to the time the first printing presses back in the 16th century, that is the level they work best at.. .

When I was in Bethel working on the bindery lines, there was a 24 year old guy who had become a Witness after he had obtained his College degree. Most of us on the crew started at the same time but he was pulled off the lines and assigned to the legal Dept. and sent to law school because he already had a B. A. It made sense that since that they chose him since he was half way there, education wise but it struck me that those of us who had listened to the Societies advice and come to Bethel, had put Gods kingdom ahead of our own pursuit for a higher education, were not only less valuable to them, but we had just been penalized or discriminatedi against in a way for listening to their own admonition.
