Encouraging their members go to College was the Mormons first mistake. JW's knew better than to let the the flock get smart enough to see beyond their fear tactics and flimsy doctrines that over and over again fell flat with time.

Mormons getting hollowed out: The tipping point has occurred.
by Qcmbr inever since mitt romney turned the spotlight on the lds church a growing tsunami of disaffection has been accelerated and brought to a head.. the lds core faithful members are leaving in increasing numbers such that growth has not simply stagnated in the west but it has actively reversed.
to their credit the church is responding aggressively but not only is it too late, it is an impossible task.
you can only paint sh*t so many ways.

I think your response was appropriate, but can you imagine how blown away they must have been? JW's expect objections and are rehearsed at overcoming them, but nothing could have prepared them for this. It must have pulled the rug out from under thier whole day.
The tearful response shows me that once again, it's not the individual Witness I have a problem with. What's appalling to me, is the lack of information the typical JW (myself included) is aware of regarding the background of the organization they center their lives around and how little they know about those who are leading it.

Most JWs compartmentalize armageddon. It's this fantasy of theirs that they don't think about in real world terms; just a vague notion that this big end is coming, and the thought stops there. Because to continue the thought is really disturbing.
This is so true...it's a survival mechanism. On some level, they don't really beleive that it's true...but they think they should beleive that it's true. How could all these JW's continue bringing children into the world if the truly beleived such an event was literal much less going to happen any day ?

If Armageddon is a real event and God is planning a paradise for mankind where imperfect people like me will grow to perfecton and truly wicked people such as Hitler and Ted Bundy won't be allowed in, I don't see any reason I shouldn't be a part of it too.
If you think there is some reason I shouldn't be there too, you need to stop judging me and you need to be certiain the information you are spreading about God and his plans is accurate and true and won't be changed and revised as it has been in the past. You need to know the past history of the Organization you belong to and see if their prophesies have held up over time. Otherwise your warnings to the public about an impending doom could become like the "boy who cried wolf" and no one will listen to them and in fact may turn away from God because of your misleading information.
Let he that is standing beware he doesn't fall.

Yes it is....I think about that everytime I'm tempted to talk to a JW about my views on the religion. I don't have anything to offer them in terms of a replacement (at the moment) and I sometimes think if things are working for them....why rock their boat ?
When it has stopped working for them and they ask me directly for my thoughts, then I'll talk openly to them. I'd hate to think that I was the cause of someone having what may be the only thing keeping them afloat, pulled out from under them.
When I'm tempted to speak out about my feelings and experiences with the JW's, I ask myself what my motivation is. If I'm only doing it because it makes me feel vindicated or that I've paid them back for the damage done to my life, I realize that isn't a good enough . To me, a good motive is one of true concern for someone elses welfare rather than of my own instant gratification.

Thank you for your nice prayer Grace...I've stopped praying as I don't know what I believe about God anymore. I must say, your words were quite comforting and I did feel a little something...a sense of peace after I read them. I forgot about that feeling thanks very much for the reminder.
I Hope you are feeling better after a good nights sleep and I hope you like this poem.
Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune--without the words,
And never stops at all,And sweetest in the gale is heard;
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm.I've heard it in the chillest land,
And on the strangest sea;
Yet, never, in extremity,
It asked a crumb of me.-Emily Dickenson

There was supposedly a Minister in Canada who was contacted at the door and eventually convinced his whole congregation to become Witnesses. I think they even converted the church to a K Hall.

Heartwarming JW Facebook Comment
by exwhyzee inthis urban legend/anecdote was on the facebook page of a jw who is a facebook friend of mine.
it's kind of long but tell us what you think....it was all i could do to stop myself from making a snarky comment.
a young couple very much wanted to have a family, but his wife could not conceive, so they decided to adopt a baby.
