I was a door-to-door magazine salesman...but I didnt know it!
by Londo111 inboth jws and former jws dont seem to remember that up until 1990, jws sold magazines, books, and brochures from door to door.
you went to either the magazine or the literature counter and bought publications that you were going to sell.
pioneers would get a slight discount.

BETHELITES - Whatever Became of?
by Black Man ini often times wonder what happened to certain bethelites that i ran around with during my 1990s tenure there.
while there are still a few left there, the greater majority of them aren't there for various reasons (marriage, disillusionment, left the borg, etc).
a couple of cats i wonder about - there was one brother who i believe was from kansas, who got his fingers cut off in a printing press.

I found my Bethel roommate, John (Johnny) Tender, on facebook about 2 years ago. He was so happy that I found him. He'd been looking for me for years. Our paths crossed many times without knowing it.
It was great to talk to him and get caught up and review all the mischief we used to get up to. Apparently he left Bethel after 4 or 5 years and became a Pioneer and also of the Annointed (unbelievable) he never married. He later developed an enlarged heart and eventually passed away (mid 50's) recently after dealing with that for about 13 years I think. He was a transplant candidate but told me he wanted to be with "his Lord and his God" as soon as possible. He didn't care that I wasn't a JW anymore and had complaints of his own about the Org.
What about:
Mike Lewis from Maryland (Bindery and later, the Legal Dept.)
Herman McMickens from Winston Salem S.C.(Bindery) Became a C.O down south somewhere.
Clarence Scott from long Island (Bindery)
David Davis Washington State
John and Sarah Mackey Washington State
Ed Robinson from Seattle
Rick Ricker
Tibor Weise
Milton Carrion from Puerto Rico
Hector Mendez from Puerto Rico
Ernie Grice from Seattle (waiter)
Paul Oakes from Seattle
Gary Ellis
Lance Canada from Poughkeepsie NY
Alvin Morris from Detroit
Gil Acasio from Hawaii
Randy Saike from Hawaii

We thought it might be Armageddon when...
by cultBgone inwere there ever specific occurrences which you or those around you thought might be the start of "armageddon"?.

I saw a bumper sticker that made me laugh " I Don't Want To Brag But This is Like The 5th End Of The World I've Lived Through "
Besides what everyone else has already mentioned. I remember coming out of the meeting one Sunday morning and the spring time sky was eerily darkened...all the street lights were on and there was rumbling in the distance. The Kingdom Hall parking lot and all the cars were covered with grey powder. Mount St. Helens had erupted and the sun was blocked out by the ash plume. To us, ever-so-watchful JW's, it was like a localized version of how things would be at Armegeddon.
Another time was when they dumped crude oil into the Persian Gulf and then lit on fire or when Bagdad was rained down upon with SCUD missles. Overnight we all became experts on the middle east and everyone thought this was the start of the Trubulation. Now I can't even remember name of the crazy Dictator who orderd this to be done.

Embarrassed by Aggressive Apostates
by ShempLives inxjw protests & videos.
.. i am disturbed by some of the more aggressive apostates posting videos on youtube, like "a jw memorial to remember" where a drunk man goes to a memorial and downs the whole glass of wine as a sort of protest.
this video and others like it received positive comments from aawa members.

The voiceless and the Invisible often act irrationality out of sheer desperaiton.
Former JW's are virtually voiceless. No one outside the organization understands their plight . To those still on the inside, they are intentionally and purposfully kept invisible. Many of them have spent decades engaging in cognative dissonance and are still approaching the whole JW issue with certain cognative deficiencies that sometimes make things worse for themselves and the rest of us.

Terry,
Aren't you in Texas ? If so, here's a link that may be helpful.
Apparently you can get extensions and waivers if you qualify income wise etc.
https://www.txdps.state.tx.us/rsd/vi/consumerinfo/waiversTimeExtensions.htm
If you are'nt in Texas, maybe your State has something similar.
My State lets you off the hook if you've spent something like $200 and still can't pass their test.

Jehovah had noting to do with it, their first choice was Safeco and Centurylink Fields which are walking distance from downtown Seattle. The reason they were able to get Husky Stadium on the 4th of July is because it's far from downtown, it's a University it's less expensive and because it's Summer...no one is there...no one else needs it. They're all out having fun on the Holiday except JW's who are sitting for hours on a beautiful summer day, listening to talks about the end of the world and how they shouldn't want to be educated in horrible places like the University of Washington (known for it's impact on the medical world especially Cancer research).
As far as Cruise Ships and their demand on hotel rooms, Cruise Ships are floating hotels that are full of people who have already paid for a room and meals...why would they be booking up hotel rooms especially ones near Husky Stadium which is a good distance by bus or car from the waterfront where the ships come in.
They always manage to put a spin on things so they appear to be underdog who is being opposed by the big bad world yet miraculously things go their way.

Hey....where's my invitiation ???
by exwhyzee ini was in my company truck again today, pulled over to the side of the road in a neighborhood, doing some measuring and looking for some survey markers.. a group of jw's were working their way down the street toward me.
the 2 middle aged ladies were smartly dressed, one had brightly colored highly styled auburn hair and was wearing large noticeable jewlry.
the brother was late 50's hispanic also smartly dressed in a black top coat and seemed like he might be elder material.

I'm happy to report that the permits were in order, for the work being done at the Kingdom Hall. After my little comment yesterday, I didn't really want to have to talk to them about code violations because it probably wasn't appropriate for me to have said that while on the job.
The fence encroachment in the alley situation has apparently been turned over to our legal department. The fence and landscaping will have to be removed and the alley restored to it's original condition so the public can use it once again. This is a somewhat common occurance . Homeowners will sometimes assume the land that adjoines theirs belongs to them. They will often install landscape or vegetable gardens. If the property sells, the new owner assumes the landscaped area is his and will put up a fence or worse build a garage or shed on the land.
What country do you live in? I haven't seen a man wearing a top hat outside of a costume party. ;)
He didn't have a top hat on....that would have been a bit too Charles Taze Russell even by JW's high dress standards. LOL! I was refering to a Top Coat, which in my neck of the woods (west coast U. S ) is a nice dark dress coat worn over a suit. (I'd have called the fashion Police if he'd have actually had a top hat on. LOL!)

I was in my company truck again today, pulled over to the side of the road in a neighborhood, doing some measuring and looking for some survey markers.
He was working alone. Each of them were only carrying a stack of what looked like tracts. I notice how slowly they were sauntering from house to house....no urgency detected.
The brother reached me first, he asked me what I was doing. I told him I was looking for certain boundary lines in order to determine if some utilities could be installed in the City right of Way. He didn't know what that meant so I explained.
He didn't actually say "Kingdon Hall " but he mentioned that "We" are getting ready to put up an iron gate and brick wall in front of "our building" and wondered if what I was doing would have anything to do with that. I told him that before they get started, they should be sure they know exactly where their property lines are, get the underground utilites marked before they dig and be sure to have the proper permits in place before starting and things should be fine. He said that was already taken care of.
P.S. I went by the Kingdom Hall later which was only a few blocks away and the project is well under way. The brick pillars are up and there are trenches dug and electrical conduit running the length of the KH frontage which borders the City's property. I will check tomorrow to see that all the permits are in order or if they even have any and where the boundary lines are (part of my job as an Inspector). I would never use my authority to give them or anyone else a bad time but I'm just curious.
Anyway, the brother was asking me a lot of overly general questions and sort of hedging around the topic of what happens if someone were to block off a public alley that wasn't being used very much. I asked him a few questions and he tried to be evasive but it turns out he blocked off an alley with a fence and took the alley over as his own property. He tried not to tell me where he lives but little by little he let it slip. It turns out I was familiar with his situation because there had been recent complaints. I didn't know one of the people involved is a JW of course but I knew that he and his neighbor have been in a dispute about this for a few years apparently. I mentioned to him that I was familiar with the situation. (I'll check this out tomorrow as well and see what's currently happening)
Anyway we were wrapping up our conversation as the sisters walked by. They each smiled and said hello to me and he joined them. As they passed I noticed they each had what looked like those invitiations to the convention that someone had posted on here. It struck me that in all the time we talked, he never offered me an invitiation or even mentioned the important work he was doing. Was my life not worth saving??
They group was only a few steps away when it struck me to say (with a big grin) "Hey....where's my-y-y-y Invitation ?? LOL"
They all turned around and looked at me with puzzled looks, so I said in a smiling joking way " Back when I was a Witness... I'd have offered someone like me, an invitation to the convention".
They Sisters looked a the Brother as if they were stunned that he hadn't done that or they didn't know what to do. The Brother just started steering them away from me with his arms on their backs. The sisters glanced back and I just smiled and waved them on as if to say "never mind...I was just kidding".
I think the brother was worried that the whole fence buisness at his own house, my familiarity with the situation as well as his indication that the work at the Kingdom Hall was OK permit wise, might shine an unfavorable light on him and his organization.
I felt sorrow for these people and the heavy burden of responsibility they bear, to be examples and above others becasue of their religion and I kinda wished I hadn't teased them even if it was just a little bit. They are such an easy mark and I remember being in their position and because of that they were at a disadvantage in this case.

Is there such a thing as an immovable object or an irrestible force?
In an infinate universe either one can exist, but not both.
One thing for sure though...Someone's gonna get kissed.
