Thanks for all of your comments guys....It's nice to know that someone "gets" what you are talking about. I think it's human nature to look at the past with rose colored glasses a little bit...at least I know I do sometimes. The grass was greener the sky was bluer. For the most part I realize that 2 minutes into the first talk of the day I'd be zoned out. It was a bad (survival) habbit I developed as a kid during the 8 day 12 hour long assemblies I went to as a kid.

I think Flipper is right....it would be easier to move and start fresh somewhere where there wasn't a JW memory around every corner. I think about doing that, all the time.

Thanks for your comments. I watched the videos last night when I was tired and feeling a bit worn out after a busy week at work. I viewed them again and I too noticed some of the things some of you noticed. I also realized that the last time they had and internaional Assembly here in Seattle was in 1976. Looking back you can tell they were doing damage control after the 1975 fiasco. This year it's probably a way to cover up the real issue behind the fact that 1914 was a hundred years ago.

1. Normally JWs avail themselves yet distance themselves from anything the world has to offer. In these videos, they conveniently associated themselves with successful Seattle business and features (Boeing, Starbucks coffee, Almond Roca, Space Needle etc) as if they somehow were a part of its success.

2. They spent hours and hours making bags and key chains. Do people who attend an international assembly suddenly have an urgent need for a place to put their Keys? I thought for sure they'd have made some reference to Matt 16:19 "and I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven". This reminds me of the swag bags you get when you attend a seminar and you end up with bunch of stuff you have either give away or find a use for before it all ends up in a landfill somewhere. Giving little gifts to delegates you know or who stay with you is one thing but to give these one size fits all gift bags out, seems pretty impersonal and a waste of time.

3. I mentioned in my opening post that we met for dinner in the City with our family members and saw a lot of the old friends we used to have. The best thing was, we got to do it without having to sit through 3 days of mind numbing talks. Our little 4 year old Nephew was bouncing off the walls having been cooped up in a seat for 3 days. No one (including Bethelite family members) was talking about the program....only about upcoming vacations recent outings etc. (thankfully) we didn't hear a word about any new releases or new information. But we did hear how concerned everyone is that we aren't attending anymore.

4.Like Billy-the ex-Bethelite said, now that the hoopla is over, it will all fade into history until the next one in 30 years. I know many will experience the after assembly anti-climactic blues.

I miss our old friends but I just could never go back to that life again...can't imagine being expected to go from door to door representing this organization or claiming or even pretending to beleive their doctrines 100% when I don't and never really have.

We went to dinner in the city with family members afterward and saw a lot of old friends. It was nice to again be part of that old familiar social affair that was a big part of our lives.

I can't help feel a bit sad as I see some of the people I know in the videos. Especially the Splendor of Washington Video. It all seems so nice to be a JW but the reality of it all, just isn't the same as they present here. I want it to be, but somehow it isn't. I have a feeling of having missed out or having been left out, or that maybe I've been too critical somehow, yet at the same time glad that I don't have to do all that anymore. I suppose a lot of it could be because this is my home town and seeing the familiar places and faces and the history I have here, compared with the difficulty one has when starting over. The only difficulty really is not having a network of friends anymore.

I'd appreciate it if you could have a look around at the site and view these videos and photos and tell me your reaction. Maybe it will help me sort out what it is that I'm thinking and feeling.

Something Big is Coming...

the annual meeting of the governing body of jehovah's witnesses will be in october 2014.. .. in november 2013, just after the last one they published this now famous statement in the 15th of november 2013 watchtower page 16 paragraph 17 says:.

"at that time, the lifesaving direction that we receive from jehovahs organization may not appear practical from a human standpoint.

all of us must be ready to obey any instructions we may receive, whether these appear sound from a strategic or human standpoint or not.".

At first glance, the little kid in us might think throwing a pie in someone's face is funny or maybe even justified. but when you see in the videos I've posted, the real life reaction of the victims of these pranks, you can't but help feel compassion for them and realize what a bad idea it is to do such a thing.

Some Pioneer Sister, said I'll make you my Mister, if you'll just believe the New Light. She said they make it up son so just play along, soon you won't know your left from your right.

And I was blinded by new light, wrapped up in their truth didn't know my left from right, Yes I was blinded by new light wrapped up in their truth it seemed like somethin' wasn't right.

With a bookbag on my shoulder feelin' like a soldier, I rode their merry-go-round. I discovered the reason , cause' it was men that I was pleasin' and the whole thing just crashed to the ground . Some big shot forget me not standing in the parking lot said man where will you go from here? I said I knew what I was doin', said it's the truth they are a skewin' that's the one thing that is perfectly clear.

No longer blinded by New LIght, learned the truth about the truth found out all that wasn't right. No I'm not Blinded By New Light, wasn't kicked out or shunned out, I simply faded right out of sight,

I don't claim to have life's answers, still I gotta' take my chances, gonna '' trust God to be my main guide. And when his number one Son, finally does to us come, I' m hopin' I'll be there at his side. They misled me and they told me, if I questioned what they showed me, I'd be making that old Devil smile. But I came to the conclusion, it was men's word I was choosin', so their doctrines I put up on trial.

Now I'm not Blinded by New Light, not teachin' other people bout' things that just aint' right. Yeah, I'm not blinded by New Light, not alone in my leavin' cause' right with me came my wife.

We were in it since childhood, taught to question was just no good, but somehow we knew down inside. If they knew what they were doin' all the info they were spewin', would have been right the first time. No it hasn't been easy, and alone we knew that we'd be, not a friend in the world do we have. Though we're still the same people and our values are all equal, there's no love for us to be found.

They too are blinded by New Light, afraid to look around them just in case they'll see the light. Yes they're still blinded by the light, held captive by the concept that it's only they who have it all right.

You can talk to your family, and you know they'll see, the things you have shown them are true. But if they are not ready and their foundations are unsteady, it's easy for them to blame you. The whole things a set up to make those who dare speak up, look like they are just Satan's spies. They're so frightened of dyin' and to themselves they'll keep on lyin' convinced they have their eyes on the prize.

Tho they are blinded by New Light, you know that they are victims so you underatand their sad plight. Yes they are blinded by New Light but it doesn't really matter, so just save all your chatter cause one day they will get it right.
