Just had a conversation with a friend who is going to pre-marriage classes at her soon to be husband's Lutheran church. She (a methodist) says that she is causing quite an uproar because she keeps asking questions and the minister told her off at her last class. She questioned his statement that a person cannot understand the bible properly unless they are Lutheran. When she questioned that, he angrily told her that only Lutherans go to heaven. And he added that she better listen and take these instructions to heart because it meant her very life. Hmmmmmm. Sound familiar? Seems that most religions think they are the only ones going to heaven. Too bad that they are fighting over something that doesn't exist except in the imagination of humans.

I remember being so upset with the Watchtower's Media video after the WTC was attacked. The video changed many times. I was aware that they only help their own but they shut their doors to the people of this tragedy. As I recall only three Witness people came into the WTS building and then they shut the doors.

1,000 marbles
by teejay in(forwarded email...).
the older i get, the more i enjoy saturday mornings.
perhaps it's the quiet solitude that comes with being the first to rise, or maybe it's the unbounded joy of not having to be at work.

I have a marble container and throw one marble away every Saturday. But first I take the marble and roll it around in my hand and remind myself that it represents another week of my life. Just how did I spend that week and was it with kindness towards others and telling my family and friends how much I love them? After that I put the marble in one of my plants and there must be close to 52 marbles in the plants now. They serve as another reminder every time I water the plants.
Some people thought it was a gruesome idea until I explained why I was doing it and then some understood and others still thought it weird. My daughter bought me 30 "I Love Lucy Marbles" to put in my marble container. I told her that it was a beautiful gesture and I would use them for 30 extra weeks if my marbles run out and I am still alive at 75.
I enjoyed reading the story again. Now where is my marble container. Today is Saturday and another weeks has passed.

Hi Lonewolf
Reviling - abuse in speech or writing. So you reviled the person telling you to stop talking. Did they not even warn you? Just threw you out? Or did you revile them also?
In my notes of 10-7-01, The speaker said, "the woman is not to tell anyone about her abusive husband. It would be slander and that would be reviling. That also happened to be the last meeting I attended.

My daughter was marked when she was 16 because some girls told their parents that she was drawing demonic images and writing demonic stories. The elders called a meeting and we were told to bring all of her artwork and stories to be viewed. We did that and they asked her where did she get her ideas for her drawings. My daughter told them from the book of revelation. She wanted to be an artist at Bethel when she graduated Highschool. They told her that only men could be artists so that she need not pursue her artwork. Her writing that was in question was about hunting from the deer's point of view. They actually asked her, "Do you believe that deer can talk? My daughter and I looked at each other is disbelief. She answered and said, "I know they can't talk. They are animals and it is just a story."
Her best friend was an elders daughter and she called my daughter and told her she would no longer be able to associate with her because of her artwork and stories and that she would have to destroy all of it before anyone would talk with her. We were not told this at the elders meeting but obviously they passed the message on.
My daughter was the "perfect witness" in their eyes before this and now she was marked as a bad associate. I went to the elders and they said they knew that my daughter had done nothing wrong and was not demon possessed as the other girls had said but that I should wait upon Jah to straighten things out. We were no longer asked to go out in service, no more helping at the conventions, no more association with the people at the hall. I was told a story of a man who waited 10 years before the wrong was righted so I should do the same.
One day we were the perfect witness family and the next we were marked.

Who are the true worshippers of God?
by AGuest inmay you all have peace!
(yes, i know i am starting a new thread when one already exists, but most of you know me by now...).
the 'true' worshippers of god are those that worship him... in spirit... and in truth.

Hi Ken
Just what I was thinking is what you just wrote. Indeed, what sin did the animals commit? God, if there is such a being, supposedly knows of every sparrow that falls. Is that like counting all the red cars you see when on a trip to pass the time? So the sparrows are falling and people are sighing and crying out and dying and nothing intercedes.

I do remember the speaker telling women not to revile their husbands. How would it look in the congregation if a sister (notice only sisters were mentioned and not brothers)went around talking abusively about her husband even if he was. She should let Jah take care of the problem. You know, more field service, etc.
What I got from that talk (besides a headache) was that keep the abuse to yourself.
Does anyone remember that talk? What were your thoughts about not reviling?

Can you be a glutton and inherit god's kingdom?
by Judith ini was looking for the scripture about who will inherit god's kingdom and can't find it because i packed up all my books and stored them.
is there mention of gluttony being one of the things that will keep you out?
proverbs 23:20 says a drunkard and a glutton will come to proverty.. proverbs 28:7 says one having companionship with a flutton humiliates his father.. so if i can't take blood transfusions, be a drunkard, lie with same sex people, etc.

Mum - I can see your point about some not wanting to socialize but I think that my be society and not the JW society. There were always plenty of bigger people at the functions for the hall.
Ozziepost - you say that greed cannot be quantified like adultery or stealing. I agree.
Definitions of greed include grasping, voracious, ravenous, gluttonous. Interesting that it is in the Flock book and yet not acted upon. They are so quick to expell.Marilyn - There was a talk in September I believe that told sisters not to be reviling their husbands, even if they were not in the truth but especially if they were in the truth. No mention was made to the men about it though. Did they tell your friend to stop the reviling or they just had a meeting and df'd him?

Hi Gopher.
I posted before I saw your response.
Yes I would really appreciate the scripture if you don't mind.
I know some have a glandular problem or whatever but I watched the food consumed by so many in my hall and know that frustration and boredom is the problem with most of them. IMO. When I went to potlucks at other events, I took one dish to pass. When I attended a JW function, I knew I had to take at least two or three.
