  why using a tablet at the platform during the meeting?

  i can't understand why the governing body aka fds has to deside about using a tablet by the speaker at the platform.. why using a tablet anyway at the platform?.

  just a toy to keep the youth inside the congregation.. gorby.

  I'm in the same camp as XBEHERE. It's so much easier to just bring ONE thing with you to the meeting...no Bible, no song book, no WT, no KM, no Jeremiah book, etc., etc...

  EDIT: To Gorby's question as to why the GB even has to be involved in "allowing" tablets to be used is a bigger question for me. After all, using tablets in worship was actively encouraged under the Mosaic Law...even if Moses did manage to break the first couple he got.

  Some might think that type of rule making is a bit Pharisaical.

  Tablets are used quite liberally in my congregation. As far as I know, the only "rule" (albeit via a branch letter to the elder body which was not read to the congregation) was that tablets are currently banned from use on the stage so that the Friends TM don't feel pressured to go out and buy one.

  Example: the only time my school overseer DOESN'T use his tablet is when he's conducting the TMS.

  i'd just like the opions of some of the more clear thinking member on this please:.

  let me just start this by saying i don't really buy into conspiracy theories, but sometimes they seem to make sense, i suppose that's the point of them.

  all this business with edward snowden seems to add a little more weight to certain conspiracy theories.

  there is something really going on in this mandmade organization!

  The long-serving CoBE of my aunt's hall very recently stepped down of his own free will. Without going into details, he's not the only appointed brother in the hall who will likely be on this forum at some point-- if he isn't already.

  i had a face to face conversation with an active jw today.

  i was informed that they congregations don't like the new bible being referred to as the "gray bible", so some are starting to refer to it as the silver sword.. .

  Hey Christendomians! Are all of yalls bibles black? Cause apparently the rewson for jdub grey/grays is that they are the light and Christendom is the dark so they have dark ones. Straight from an elders wife, at my bible study. Maaaaaan.

  Oh, and I thought it was because the all that New Light TM getting brighter and brighter has caused the black to fade to a washed out grey.

  Seriously? Oh, dear lord.

  I saw a group manning a JW.org table yesterday and they all had their fancy new grey bibles in hand. I wanted to walk by and say "Heyyy...nice grey bible *wink wink*. But I just didn't want to get dragged into a convo about where I'm from, what cong., etc., etc....

  If I ever hear someone say that, I'll be forced to make some witty comment about beer (let me start thinking now...)

  I know a "sister righteous" and she counselled me a few times too. She ( told me not to wear white socks because people would "think I was gay"

  None of the gay men that I know would ever wear white socks; they're way too fashionable (well except at the gym, I suppose, where they do spend quite a bit of time).

  ...but it struck me as significant anyway.. i attended at a jw assembly hall, and was sitting behind a pretty typical jw family.

  2 kids about ages 8 & 5, frazzled hen-pecked husband, and....the mom.

  To the OP, the reactions you observed mirrored identically what I saw.

  - Everyone laughed way too hard at every joke a GB made.

  - Everyone was clap-happier than they are at the DC.

  - I just about died laughing when he finally announced the Bible and people audibly gasped with surprise. (Really??? Have you been living under a rock for the last 6 months? Have you not heard them making jokes for the last 2 hours about a lack of Bibles? Have you not picked up on the fact that they've spent the last 2 hours talking ONLY about Bibles and translations?)

  - Can't remember which one said it, but when he made the comment that these Bibles will be available for order starting in 2014...."100 years following Christ taking his throne", we giggled in amusement as we watched 75% of those in the auditorium turn and look at each other with eyes the size of dinner plates and mouth "WOW!!!"
