Have you ever went over a friends house to eat
by gubberningbody inand the food just aint no good, i mean the macaroni's soggy the peas are mushed and the chicken tastes like wood?
so you try to play it off like you think you can by sayin that youre full and then your friend says momma he's just being polite he aint finished uh uh that's bull.
so your heart starts pumping and you think of a lie and you say that you already ate and your friend says man there's plenty of food so you pile some more on your plate.

Why are anniversaries okay?
by MrFreeze ini'm sure this topic has been brought up before.
i was at a jw graduation party yesterday and realized "if birthday parties are not okay because they supposedly bring undue attention to an individual, why are graduation parties and wedding anniversaries okay?
" they both glorify individuals and put them on a pedestal.

You go wantstoleave. Don't make your kids miss out because the JW's want your children ending up brainwashed.

Where did 607 come from?
by MrFreeze inokay so we've obviously established on this board that 607 is not the correct date that babylon destroyed jerusalem.
even before 1914 came around, the bible students still thought 1914 would be a pivital date.
the only way they can gain that info is from the 7 times or w/e.

Forget it Ann... it's Chinatown.
It's clear scholar doesn't get it. He says it must be the date. Not because of any facts or proof but because the JW's say it is. That's the only proof he has given. You know what, when it comes to dates, there is fact and their is fiction. Everybody but the JW's agree that it was NOT 607. That should be your first hint right there considering 607 falls conveniently in their supposed timeframe. The Bible does specifically say 607 was the year. Why is scholar going outside of what the Bible says? You know what the Bible says about interpretations of man right? You should fear for your eternal life scholar. You put an interpretation of man above what the Bible says.

You will not believe this.....
by EndofMysteries inis 5:8 - woe to those joining house to house and you men have been made to dwell all by yourselves in the midst of the land.
9 in my ears jehovah has sworn that many houses, though great and good, will become an outright object of astonishment.
18 woe to those drawing error with ropes of untruth, those who say, "let his work hasten; do let it come quickly, in order that we may see it; and let the counsel of the holy one of israel draw near and come, that we may know it.

That is quite interesting. I wonder what the WT explaination of that scripture is.

Does it sound like a "cop out" when...
by Coffee House Girl inone of my really good jw friends (which now means he can no longer be my friend) came into the shop i work in today with two other jw's to buy some guitar strings and things- i could tell he was uncomfortable walking in the shop (he hesitated at the door) and i was on the phone so i couldn't wait on them personally so all i could think of to do is make a smart ass comment about his hair cut.. they made their purchase & walked out we smiled and waved to each other.. he obviously did not buy anything and they all know where i work, so he just came in to check me out (not in a flirty way).. he has always been a bit on the "edge" when it comes to jw practices (watches r rated movies, listens to "bad" music, drinks, and he does text me occasionally to talk about music and un-jw related subjects).
should i have tried to reach him with the truth about the truth?.
i ponder this question lately with some of my loved ones so i will ask you all........ if i could be reached by talking rationally with me to look further into the religion i was blindly following- should i try reaching someone i care about?.

I don't know. You could really alienate them by talking bad about the JW's. Chances are, if you had said something, they may have taken it into account but still not have done anything. If they are doing all that stuff, they aren't serious about being a JW. That's like it is for me. Just got to a point where I didn't care what I watched or did anymore. Put on a false front at the hall and do whatever I want elsewhere.

Here you go. Here's two references from two different publications.
***Keep Yourselves in God's Love*** (lv) Under the chapter "Celebrations that Displease God"
Box on page 148, 149:
"Some questions to ask yourself about a popular celebration or custom
? Does it clearly have roots in a false religious practice or teaching, including spiritism?—Isaiah 52:11; 1 Corinthians 4:6; 2 Corinthians 6:14-18; Revelation 18:4.
? Does it give undue honor or adulation to a human, an organization, or a national symbol?—Jeremiah 17:5-7; Acts 10:25, 26; 1 John 5:21.
? Does it elevate one nation or ethnic group over another?—Acts 10:34, 35; 17:26.
? Does it reflect “the spirit of the world,” which works in opposition to God’s holy spirit?—1 Corinthians 2:12; Ephesians 2:2.
? Could my participation in it be a cause for stumbling?—Romans 14:21.
? If I choose not to participate, how would I respectfully explain my reasons to others?—Romans 12:1, 2; Colossians 4:6."
Anniversaries do that just as much as birthdays do.
Okay, now here's an exceprt from the Watchtower. I couldn't BELIEVE this when i read it:
W92 9/1 p.30 in a Question From Readers: "Do Jehovah’s Witnesses avoid celebrating birthdays because the practice had some religious meaning in ancient times?"
Paragraph 2 of that article says: " Some customs that were once religious in nature no longer are in many places. For example, the wedding ring once had religious significance, but in most places today, it no longer does. Hence, many true Christians accept the local custom of wearing a wedding ring to give evidence that a person is married. In such matters, what generally is influential is whether a practice is now linked to false religion.—See “Questions From Readers” in TheWatchtower of January 15, 1972, and October 15, 1991."
Unbelievable! Since when have birthdays been signifigant in religion today? Why can't we share in toasts? Another article:
w07. 2/15 p.30 Questions from Readers:"The Bible does not mention toasting, so why do Jehovah’s Witnesses avoid sharing in toasts?"
Paragraph 5: " Granted, the fact that an object, a design, or a practice has roots or parallels in ancient false religion does not always rule such out for a true worshipper. Consider the pomegranate. A noted Bible encyclopedia reports: “The pomegranate seems also to have been used as a holy symbol in heathen religions.” Nevertheless, God had pomegranates made of thread put on the hem of the high priest’s garment, and pomegranates decorated the copper pillars of Solomon’s temple. (Exodus 28:33; 2 Kings 25:17) Moreover, the wedding ring at one time had religious significance. Yet, most people today do not know that, considering a wedding ring a mere evidence that someone is married. "
So why is it not okay to celebrate Valentine's Day or Thanksgiving Day or pretty much any other non-religious holiday? Most people don't realize the religious signifigance of those holidays? It's okay because people don't know the signifigance?
The more I look into this, the madder and madder I get that I've been fooled all of these years. Fortunately I'm only (based on life expectance) a quarter of my life in so I still have SOME life left to live.

Rules For JW Apologists Using the Interwebs
by besty init seems that many of the 'jw" apologists who find their way on here are similar.
coincidence?
here is a sample from the rulebook they all use:.
-
MrFreeze
JW apologists are no different than any trolls on any other forum, except these ones are more tenacious. It's because they honestly believe what they say. Trolls usually say things just to get a rise out of people. These JW trolls are trying to actually prove what they believe is right. It's like a troll on steroids.
