  Is the Flood Story True?

  those who have not yet relinquished their right to think for themselves should be virtually certain that the story of noah and the ark is a fable.

  those who believe the bible's stories are literally true find it almost impossible to address with a straight face the problems presented below.. then the flood came which destroyed every living thing which was not in the ark: "and every living substance was destroyed which was upon the face of the ground, both man, and cattle, and the creeping things, and the fowl of the heaven; and they were destroyed from the earth: and noah only remained alive, and they that were with him in the ark.

  " (genesis 7:23).

  The issue about the flood that I find so interesting is that supposedly all the animals were herbivores before the flood. Ok, we won't bother to ask why some had serious fangs, claws and talons. For some mysterious reason, after the flood, biblegod decrees that now many animals are carnivores. Um, what? So now that there are only two (or seven???) of each kind of animal they can hunt, kill and eat each other? Why would they become carnivores by design only after there are supposedly so few of them? Wouldn't pretty much all of them but the highest on the food chain be extinct in a very short time? That sounds so absurd to me. Yet those who believe such things consider those who do not to be "unenlightened". What up with that?

  What is significant about 9/11?

  many jws have become excited by the events of 9/11 in the u.s., thinking that this is a definite sign of the imminent end of the system.

  we have seen online jws talking about how these awful events were "prophecied in the bible" and how this is proof that armageddon is near.

  we have heard reports of local jws saying the same things, including many of our family members.

  Seeker you are so right. Inasmuch as 9/11 has it's own unique aspects it really is nothing new. Back during the Crusades King Richard had about 5000 "infidel" captives. Apparently he and Saladin had some sort of disagreement on terms and so Richard ordered all the captives beheaded. It was taking too long so the Christians finally just went in and slaughtered them with whatever was handy. Of course the "infidels" were quick to do the same with their Christian captives. In all the chronicles I have read from the time the sentiments throughout Europe were consistently one of regret for the loss of Christian lives.

  For all our advancements and enlightenment we haven't really changed much have we? One can't help but wonder if the world were free of religion and other various superstition could we finally grow up? *sigh*

  Hey Tina--

  While I was never a JW when I studied with them they sure painted a picture that was different from reality. After a very long time and many interesting discussions they finally started to apply pressure. I didn't like it, always thought something wasn't quie right and had a look. When I saw their involvement with the Swaggart thing, letters from the WT to Hitler and other documents (on Doc Bob's website--thanks Doc) I was outraged. I couldn't believe this gal, my study, who got to know me pretty well would even think for a moment this was an organization for me. I confronted them with the documents I printed off Doc's site and boy they couldn't leave fast enough. When I found H2O (the old, cool H2O) I learned that my friend/study was actually a victim herself and I came to understand a lot.

  Glad I always had those inklings but finding out the dirty truths was the final straw for me and I never saw my "study buddy" again! As I read posts and see what others have endured at the hands of this evil cult I can only count myself fortunate.

  Who wrote the Bible?

  it puts forward the veiw that the ot was put together by someone during the babylonain captivity.

  very interesting.. one point that i wanted to share is this.

  Hi Uncle Onion,

  :All this seems to prove to me that the Bible is nothing but a history book and was not compiled at the time but a long time after.

  I don't think it even qualifies as a history book. It is merely designed to keep the masses in line with fear and superstition. It has provided safe-haven and justification for lunacy and barbarity throughout the ages and has done a great deal of harm.

  Hi Rex my darling--

  I was wondering, when you guys teach the children about the bible do you go into the gruesome stories or do you basically stick to the happy stories? How old does a child have to be to be kept in line with fear? Is it a never-to-young-to-start sort of mindset or more of a let's-not-damage-their-tender-minds-yet view?

  I know the story of Joshua and his people slaughtering others was way too much for my own daughter at about age 8 so that's why I ask.

  No I didn't figure you did in Australia, Fox is too second rate to be global. Besides, only Americans usually like to lap up that sort of obvious rhetoric. I mean look at how popular the ridiculously misinformed, hypocrital Rush Limbaugh is here. That should tell you all you need to know about America's appetite for factual "news" (hint: miniscule).

(revelation 22:18,19) i am bearing witness to everyone that hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: if anyone makes an addition to these things, god will add to him the plagues that are written in this scroll; 19 and if anyone takes anything away from the words of the scroll of this prophecy, god will take his portion away from the trees of life and out of the holy city, things which are written about in this scroll.. anyone who seat himself in the seat of moses is condemned.

  anyone that follows such a person is condemned.. anyone who change gods' word is condemned.. condemned by whom?

  the almighty god jehovah.. get a life, and get over it, "all those that condemn"!!!!!!!!!!
