One Miracle in my life
by Dawn ina while back there were some postings asking if miracles still happen today, so i thought this latest story from my life would be appropriate.. my husband's friend from work lost his father to cancer, shortly after that he lost his wife, also to cancer.
a few months ago his teenage son was diagnosed with bone cancer and not given a very good chance of survival.. i don't know this man, only met him once, and i never met his son.
but something inside me just made me so angry, and my heart so heavy -this could not happen.

Ex JW Down and Outs.
by refiners fire ina large proportion of the ex jws i know and stay in contact with are pretty much down and out.. i stay in contact with 4 from my past.. out of the 4:.
3 of them are long term unemployed.. 3 of those have psychiatric problems.. 2 of them dont have a stable relationship.. only 1 of them is a reasonable financial success.. my perception of the ex dub world is one of destroyed lives and, too a large degree, hopelessness.i base this perception on those ex dubs i know.
course, they are all hard core apostates.

I have a great job, great wife, great stepkids, great inlaws, great house + neighborhood. I am agnostic and have issues with the WTS but I wouldn't say I am obsessed or unbalanced about it. I don't buy into pseudo science, ufo crap, ESP, remote viewing or anything like that.
I was raised a witness and left at about age 26. I am inactive and still able to have a semi normal relationship with my siblings and parents. My life has never been better; I count my blessings daily.

Are Jw's the only ones with apostates....
by VioletAnai inwho viciously attack the teachings and beliefs of their resigned religion?.
i was thinking of this last night....i have never in my life seen a movement so big as the apostates against jw's..... no other religion has displayed this....usually people just quietly leave and get on with their lives and there is no anomosity...even if they have been wronged by their religion.... but with jw's it's different...it's an all out and out attack on anyone and everyone who has something positive to say.... makes me believe the bible and the jw's even more...being here is setting the doubt in my mind right....

I think this is the stage called grasping at straws. When all else fails, you look for something to cling to:
"Who cares about all the wrong/vaccilating teachings, wacky history, needless blood deaths, etc etc. All these apostates *must* mean it's the truth no matter what!!! PHEW!!!!"
It can also be:
-growth proves it
-everyone is so nice proves it
-uniform beliefs prove it
-a feeling I get in my heart proves it
-a random scripture says something that seems to match JWs perfectly, that proves it..
-etc etcI had an old roomate who confronted me when I was leaving, so I told/showed him everything I had read. He almost left too, then did a complete 180.. His reasoning was simply "I don't care. I just know somehow it is the truth. <reactivate blinders>" (oh and by the way my parents will kill me if I leave the 'trufe')
Sorry Violet.. as everyone has pointed out, look at any group with similar characteristics to the JWs, you will find 'apostates' who make web pages, publish books, have discussion forums, you name it.
In fact if you ever get the chance, hang out with the active folks from one of the other groups. I had a Mormon friend once, and hung out with his family sometimes. They acted just like witnesses. Sometimes they would even talk about various teachings, they would act just like JWs, referring to publications and talks they had heard, etc. They never decided anything for themselves, they would always look answers up.

Can you ever help these people?
by sleepy incan you ever help these people?.
you show them why the society is wrong on prohecy, theres no authority for the gb, mistakes and changes and how they have damaged lives, and everything else you can think of .. and what do they say.. "does it really matter?
it is the truth and there no where else to go".

The problem is that witlesses are trained to believe that apostates have a supernatural power (courtesy of Satan) to trick them. So no matter how logical a case you make, it is chalked up to deception. A witnesses will then disregard his/her own reasoning at that point, accepting that what an apostate says is by definition not true, despite how true it may sound. I never fully bought into this crapola as a JW. For me just the fact the society was so desperate to hide this information was so fishy I had to check it out.

Great stories guys.. Nice to read about asswipes and shitheads getting what they deserve once in awhile. Sometimes humans can feel like we have really advanced to a high level of civilization; but at the same time this kind of anti-social behavior is so prevalent I often feel evolution really hasn't taken us all that far above the other great apes in advancement.

I just got ripped off for two grand :-(
by Mindchild insometime yesterday or this morning, i was ripped off for $2,000 in cash.
the money was in an unlocked attache case inside my private room of a shared home.. i kept about $5,000 in cash in my attache case inside my bedroom.
yesterday, i spent about $2,000 of that money buying textbooks (this is my occupation), leaving $3,000 in two envelopes, one having $1,000 and the other $2,000.

Bible Error: Peter Denies Knowing Jesus
by JosephAlward inin the dialogue below, jesus scoffs at peters claim that he will give his life for jesus.
he tells peter that before the sun comes up in the morning--before the rooster crows--peter would that very night pretend he did not even know jesus.. .
readers should note especially that in the john passage below, jesus is predicting that the rooster would not crow until after peter has denied knowing jesus three times.. .

I have never seen a thread before with so many uses of the word cock. Someone using a search engine looking for cock is liable to stumble into this page. I wonder if Jesus' disciples who were around when he made the original statement snickered when he said it.
"huh huh huh huh heheh huh Lord you said cock"

Reasoning from Watchtower world
by detective insorry, this is a long post:.
i had a conversation with my jw friend the other night.
i thought i'd recap some of the arguments presented even though i didn't get to touch on all of the different counter arguments i would have liked to present.. on "worldly" people: i tried to explain what it felt like when i first realized that derogatory comments were being said about non-witnesses.

Hmm your friend sounds like the old reliable model JW-70 [tm]. That's what most of my old JW friends were. Many of us reading could imagine having exactly the same conversation.
Next time one of these robots says they will do anything the GB says to do just remind him to watch out for the kool aid.
