Lark, your being a pain in the ass. I'm doing my best to get you info but i'm not that quick. Why is it so hard to believe that the JW's didn't know this ? In Bethleham and Jeruselum they give tours of these caves. This woman told me that the catholic church has a church built around the cave where they believe Mary lived when the angel Gabriel visited her. By the way the catholic church didn't charge to view this cave because its also now part of the church. In case trivia like that intersts you. jurs

I really don't think this woman was lying to me. She's a regular client in the salon where I work, She's a strict Morman and travels . I know she went to Jeruselum in fact she went with other members of her church. The cave homes are more practical, its very hot and it would be much cooler than wood BUT I"ve never been there. Damn, I hate research. Does anyone like too look things up?

When I was a JW I was so impressed with all the research into even the tiniest of details. I couldn't believe how smart the brothers were!! Even when I left I thought I at least I learned the bible and bible trivia well. Recently I was visiting with a woman who had gone to Jeruselum 3 years ago. She told me that in Jesus times they didn't live in wood houses but caves. The stable that Jesus was born in was really a cave and that Jesus and his father were carpenters not of wood but stone. She had several interesting trivia bits of knowledge that she learned when she went on these tours. I was surprised I didn't know these things. I've also gone to church sveral times since I left the org and was surprised at how others seem knowledgeable. When I was in the org it seemed like most people I talked to seemed ignorant. Now it seems as if people weren't as ignorant as I once thought.
Has anyone else found this to be true?......Jurs

Whats more important............ your kids having a X-mas tree for the first time. Which by the way is very important to them. or worrying about what the JW's think. Do you want to teach your kids that you have to hide and be sneaky about things? Are you really going to enjoy and let your kids enjoy the holiday or are you going to go about it luke warm and dampen what could be alot of fun. PUT YOUR KIDS FIRST , their long overdue. Don't want to sound hard on you, I deprived my kids of xmas too. They celebrated last year for the first time when they were 11 and 12. I wept out of guilt!!!

What TV shows couldn't you watch as a JW Kid?
by WTLies inwe had a whole list of shows we were not allowed to watch including 'speed racer', you'll never guess why.
it was beacuse in the theme song it says "he's a demon on wheels" but then my mother was a jw fanatic lol.

I wouldn't let my kids watch the simpsons, and this Disney movie , prince of Egypt ( I think thats what it was called) I believe Whitney houston and Mariah Carey sang a song together for the movie and you guesed it, I didn't allow them to listen to that either. Of course NO holiday tv programs!!!

Did we take nothing good from the JW's?
by kenpodragon inrecently on another location online, someone told me my thoughts sound like something from a watchtower or awake.
they said, i come off in the same manner and use illustrations to speak.
it was also mentioned that i come off as an elder at times, and sound very authoritarian in my manner.

funny timing!! I was just reading "might as well jump in" post and someone gave the definition of pompous and it made me chuckle how still like JW's we are sometimes and your right its not always bad. Where else do you find people giving definitions and giving illustrations?? Even the way we try and solve the bickering that goes on by wanting solid proof before giving an accusation and being HUMBLE has JW overtones. This definately is a JW influenced atmosphere. Can you imagine Catholics or Methodists being so alike in speech as well as thoughts. Were definately products of a cult !!! ..............................jurs

RAY FRANZ--You Are Appreciated Very Much!!!
by minimus inafter coming home to read what has happened today on this board, i would just like to say that no matter what differences anyone has ever had with ray franz, i, for one appreciate what he has done for me.
ray has helped more people to look at their spirituality over the last 2 decades.
he is not perfect, but he has been a voice of reason and a man of integrity.

I also wanted to add , to hopefully encourage others to post, that it was posters that actually reached my heart where as Ray's book reached my head. One poster compared the prodigal son with how JW's treat DF"d ones. To me that was a WOW !!! Many of us have probably helped others and not even realized it. ............. Not just Ray has made a difference .
