When I was a JW I was so impressed with all the research into even the tiniest of details. I couldn't believe how smart the brothers were!! Even when I left I thought I at least I learned the bible and bible trivia well. Recently I was visiting with a woman who had gone to Jeruselum 3 years ago. She told me that in Jesus times they didn't live in wood houses but caves. The stable that Jesus was born in was really a cave and that Jesus and his father were carpenters not of wood but stone. She had several interesting trivia bits of knowledge that she learned when she went on these tours. I was surprised I didn't know these things. I've also gone to church sveral times since I left the org and was surprised at how others seem knowledgeable. When I was in the org it seemed like most people I talked to seemed ignorant. Now it seems as if people weren't as ignorant as I once thought.

Has anyone else found this to be true?......Jurs

It's easy to appear knowledgable when no one checks your sources.

I now realize that if I had spent as much time reading and studying Catholic literature as I did Watchtower ones, I would have never left the Church in the first place. I'm right back where I began. Only now, I have better answers than I did before. And better questions too.

I really don't think this woman was lying to me. She's a regular client in the salon where I work, She's a strict Morman and travels . I know she went to Jeruselum in fact she went with other members of her church. The cave homes are more practical, its very hot and it would be much cooler than wood BUT I"ve never been there. Damn, I hate research. Does anyone like too look things up?

    jurs,

Not to be too detail minded, but I don't believe that folks lived in caves in those days. There are towns and villages that go back much farther than Jesus's time. As far as the word, carpenter, it would be better translated as "construction worker." They worked in both wood and stone, the basic materials in a building.

    jurs,

Because you found a web site that said that Jesus was born in a cave, doesn't make it true. Please provide some scholarly references. When someone, like you that disagrees with everything that has been written on the subject, I find it very hard to believe. As I said before, people did live in towns in those days and even in some fairly large cities.

Lark, your being a pain in the ass. I'm doing my best to get you info but i'm not that quick. Why is it so hard to believe that the JW's didn't know this ? In Bethleham and Jeruselum they give tours of these caves. This woman told me that the catholic church has a church built around the cave where they believe Mary lived when the angel Gabriel visited her. By the way the catholic church didn't charge to view this cave because its also now part of the church. In case trivia like that intersts you. jurs
