what prompted this topic was when an ex-jw ( ex-elder ) friend of mine told me that once when he was doing a "car" witness with three others, near to christmas time, they lost one of them!
after a bit of searching along the route, the others eventually found him in a house, eating a mince pie and drinking a glass of brandy!.
my friend reminded him that he shouldn't be participating in these " worldly things.
I always thought the belief about the the star being from Satan when Jesus was born was strange and could never swallow it. I had trouble with women having to wear dresses and keeping track of the field service hours as well.
To pleasuredome, WELCOME!! Why do you suppose you weren't DF'd? It did seem like there was always the unfairness of how some could get away with just about anything and others were DF'd without mercy...................... Glad it worked out for you!

to be able to properly "encourage one another, more so as you behold the end drawing near", we as jw's were instructed to do the following: .
(1) stay after the meeting for "upbuilding association", and .
(2) rather than talk about mundane things of life, discuss the finer points of the meeting just held.
Iv4fer, I would be the one explaining why I had missed the last meeting!!
I use to try and make an effort to talk about spiritual things after the meetings. I would go and tell the visiting speaker that I enjoyed his talk and I would always go and talk to someone that was new or visiting our hall. I use to label myself as the "weak " witness but looking back I was probably doing more than many others. It use to bug me how some of the strong families never made much effort "widening out" and visiting with others. Many seemed to visit with their own friends and didn't even try to reach out and get to know someone new. Only on the day where a talk was about widening out did I notice any effort and then the very next meeting things were back to the clickish normal. I did try as a JW to be encouraging after or before a meeting but I didn't notice many others trying.

my lost new posting topic made me think of this question:.

I would have stayed. It was the issue of shunning that got to me in the end. I had a good friend who was a closet drinker and was terrified of getting DF'd. That started the ball rolling. As nutty as the beliefs were , and some I did have trouble with at first it was the cruelness of shunning that opened eyes. jurs
a few days back a thread was started that dealt with persons who had given up things in behalf of the "truth" college, retirement, dreams, etc.
as a black man i see the impact that wt has had on me, thankfully i live in an area where if you are a black person you can have opportunities that as a black person you may not find in miss.. .
i look back at myself at all the job advancements i turned down due to being a jw, i used to work for a white guy who told me, james you have the abilities that would make you a good manager, i said to myself --no way-- i see you guys working 50-60 hours a week, and i got meetings and parts yes responisiblities in the congregation that are far more important than some "job" .
What is it with JW's and cleaning jobs????? Every congregation I ever belonged to it seemed like lots of brothers and sisters had cleaning jobs!!!
As far as the points you brought out , JT , they were quite interesting. I never knew about the segregated groups. Its funny because that was something that impressed me when I was a JW was the NON predjudiceness. At meetings there would be talks about how JW's don't have the predjudice problems because Jehovah's not partial so therefore neither are we. The congregations I attended were mainly all white so I never saw anything otherwise.
This is a litlle bit off the subject but I had a neighbor who moved to Colorado from Arkansas . I went and met her and it came up that I was a Jehovah Witness. She looked surprised and said that she thought that all JW's were black. All the JW's she had ever met before were Black. So I got to explain that we came in all sizes, shapes and colors.
Anyhow JT, I enjoyed your post. It does seem like JW's are all united and of one mind in reguards of having aspirations to CLEAN!!!

although most everyone here appears to have had some degree of affiliation with the jw organization, the individual posters seem to be from pretty diverse backgrounds.

Ohhhhhh Boy, Reading your post was like watching your child make poor choices but you can't really stop them , you just hope they don't get hurt and hopefully learn a lesson. You said you think the JW's probably have the right idea. Didn't we all!
Welcome! If you haven't been discouraged from the JW's for coming here just wait................they'll tell you how bad we all are and that you shouldn't visit this sort of site. I'm just curious why you ame here and what you think about us? I don't believe forums like this existed when I first started studying. I wish they had but I really don't know if it would have mattered. Have any of the experiences or points people have made, affected you?

what was one thing you did and really wanted to do when you left the jw's;what you couldn't do because of the organization?.
mine was martial arts.
A few weeks after I left the org I went to Las Vegas for a vacation!! I also went to a store called St. Nicks that sells Xmas stuff all year long and bought an ornament. Oh, I also went and bought a cross to wear.

I came in through the door to door work. I was in my early 20"s. It wasn't just one thing that sold me but rather the timing was right. I was looking for a relationship with God. It was also the persistance on the pioneer sister's part. I didn't just believe everything right away, it took years!!!! It was also because I was ignorant to the bible. When they showed me a scripture to back up their beliefs I had no knowledge to argue or counter with a different scripture. I was also attracted very much to belonging to "family" spiritually speaking. I wanted the older ones to be like grandparents to my kids , that "love" that identifies the true org. I also agreed with the "no trinity" . It slowly happened . jurs
