Lots of different answers ... hmmm! But I guess it's safe to conclude that the main reasons would be (1)safety and (2)cost reduction ... both of which make sense. Now that I've thought about it a little bit, the hall I went to in AL had windows, but they were pretty high so you couldn't see out into the parking lot or anything. I could see how they *could* be a distraction, but I'm thinking about other churches now - do they have regular windows, aside from stained glass ones? I've never noticed ... obviously, I'm not a very observant person.

No windows on Kingdom Halls?
by just_a_girl ini just read a post on another site i belong to (non-jw related) where a person asked if anyone knew why jws do not have windows on their kingdom halls.
a few other people responded saying that they had noticed the same thing, that they thought it was b/c the jws believe that windows are just an adornment, hence a distraction?.
in my 20+ years of being a jw and attending quick builds, i never noticed this ... it never even dawned on me ... and now that i try to think back, i can't remember there being any windows at the khs i attended?.

Anyone here know the answer to this? Did I just block out this part of my life so well that I just can't remember windows? Or are the JWs adverse to letting the sunshine in??

Didn't you just love these cards?
by flower ini was doing some more unpacking and came across a box of my old high school stuff.
did anyone else get cards like this for graduation?
i didnt think anything of it at the time of course except i felt guilty as usual for not doing what it suggested but now it pisses me off.

Vomit. Pig vomit.
I can relate, flower. I got a few of these! And to think that I actually thought the end was near so I passed up the grants and scholarships I had received to go to college (1240 on the SATs - but that was just "worldly knowledge"). So naive.
You mean you didn't pray to get that service bag as your graduation gift?? LOL

Are JW Kids Worse Disproportionately?
by patio34 inin a conversation with my son, we were going over all the young people he grew up with that were jws.
there seemed to be an inordinate proportion of felons among them, compared to the "worldly" people in his school.
and also compared to the people at work that i know whose kids are doing fine now.. our tentative theory is that raising kids as jws can be very damaging to many of them.

My youngest sister and I definitely led double lives - I was having sex and smoking pot; my youngest sister was having sex and doing heavier drugs (LSD, some coke)
My middle sister ... well, she was kind of a goodie two shoes - but she moved out at 18 and *gasp* went to college! Then *gasp* married a worldly guy (who I think is gay, but that's beside the point)
Needless to say, not one of us is going to meetings - both of my sisters still go to Memorial and district assemblies. Dunno why. Guilt, I guess. As for the JW kids we grew up with ... I would say about 1/2 of them also led double lives, I am good friends w/ a few of them now who are DA'd or DF'd. There were a few who were exceptionally straight laced, as far as I knew ... but they have morphed into strange adults.

EEK! They came to my house!
by just_a_girl inwas expecting a girlfriend over this morning - rushed to the door when bell rang.
to my surprise/horror, there were 2 jws ... apparently when my mother was visiting last summer, she had mentioned to these "sisters" to come stop by every once in a while, to encourage me to go to meetings.
they were inviting me to the special talk this sunday ... i politely told them, thanks for the invitation but i already had plans for sunday (sleeping in) ... i don't want to be rude, b/c these 2 particular women are pleasant (it could very well be a farce) but how do i get across to them that i do not wish to be visited in the future?
