Sarahsmile: I was then associated with a congregation----a "congo"--- in Costa Mesa, not far away from Westminster. But, I did not attend the assembly in San Francisco, just Pasadena. And, Tenyearsafter, you could very well be correct about the assembly being a 7-day assembly. Either day, 7 days or 8 days was "brutal." (The next assembly that was long, that I can remember, was the 1969 "Peace On Earth" Assembly, held in Dodger Stadium. Looking back in retrospect, I have to ask myself, What was the point of it all? At this old of 69, I could have the number of days wrong. Oh well. Best Regards, Everyone.....Titch.

So, 60 Years Ago
by titch inso, folks, 60 years ago, starting on september 1st, i believe, we, local witnesses in southern california, had the "privilege" of attending the "around the world assembly", at, of all places, the rose bowl, in pasadena.
(i think that it was an 8-day assembly) i was 9 years old then, almost ready to start 4th grade.
so, was anyone else, on this site, at that assembly?

Dagney: You are correct. The chairs could be attached to the cement bench with clips, on the bottom, that were spring-loaded---and, they had a soft back unit. It made sitting at the Rose Bowl somewhat more tolerable. I remember, on the last day, I stayed at home with my Dad, but my Mom went to the Convention. The next morning, I woke up to find the "Babylon" book on a desk next to my bed. Also at that Convention, they released a thick edition of the New World Translation, filled with many references. What does this even mean?
by Blotty in"the son is born of the father by generation, but generation should not be understood in the everyday sense.
the son is derived from the father through pure spiritual generation, through the unlimited sharing of his essence.
so, the birth of the son is an intellectual activity of god.".

I still remember the special stadium chairs that we used, to make sitting there just a little bit more comfortable. Otherwise, if you did NOT have them, you had to sit on the stiff, concrete benches of The Rose Bowl. So, does anyone else remember having that fun of attending the Around The World Assembly, back in 1963? I do believe that two publications were released at that assembly---"Babylon The Great Has Fallen, God's Kingdom Rules" , and "All Scripture Is Inspired Of God." Best Regards, Everyone......Titch.

Do You Think Trump Is Done?
by minimus incertain forces appear to be trying to make sure donald trump never runs for president again.
some republicans are clearly abandoning trump and of course the democratic press has been saying trump is done!

Of course many things could happen between now and November 2024. But, what if---WHAT IF----at the 2024 Republican National Convention---the Republican Party, collectively---decides to NOT nominate Donald J. as its Presidential Candidate? Then What ? What's he going to do then? Start ranting and raving, jumping up and down and screaming about "nomination fraud"? Or, will he run as a "third-party" candidate perhaps. Maybe the "Truth Social" Party? On the other hand, what if he IS nominated by the Republican Party to be its Presidential Candidate? I just wonder---who would be willing to run as his Vice-Presidential running mate? I wonder about that.
I am registered to vote, but NOT as a Republican. If I were a registered Republican, and Michel Pence was listed on the California Primary Election ballot, I would vote for Pence, because I have MUCH MORE respect for Mr. Pence than I have for Mr. Trump.---Best Regards, Everyone---Titch

Did anyone really enjoy assemblies?
by SydBarrett inthe twickenham post made me think of this.
i have a few jw family members on facebook and being summertime, their pics of the convention have shown up in my fb feed.
along with their comments about "i wished it would never end" or "what a glorious weekend".

Something that I forgot to mention in my previous response. In 1986 I got my Amateur Radio license, and earlier that year, I found out that there were several Witnesses who also had their licenses. The last District Assembly that I attended was during the Summer of 1987. That time, I took with me a 2-meter h.t. (hand-held transceiver). So, during the intermission, I met up with, and had radio conversations with other Witnesses at the Assembly who were also "hams", on a simplex frequency. There was no point in using a nearby repeater frequency, since we were all located inside the stadium. So, that was rather enjoyable to use my Amateur Radio privileges to talk with my fellow Witnesses who were also licensed Amateurs. And, on most days, we would meet at a pre-arranged location inside the stadium, so that we could meet in person, instead of being a "disembodied" voice on the radio. Best Regards, Everyone---Titch.

Treatment of Those Trying For Reinstatement
by Vanderhoven7 inwhat happens when a jehovah’s witness who has been disfellowshipped returns to attending the meetings again?.
mark jones writes:.
if it's the same congregation that they previously attended then, yes, the congregation will remember who they are and so continue to treat them as dead or invisible.. one of the identifying marks a cult is that it uses shame and humiliation to control members, to keep them from leaving and manipulating those who escaped into coming back.. a disfellowshipped person is never allowed to quietly leave with dignity.

Regarding the comment from Balaamsass: I wonder if the person at Bethel, who saw that person taking the Bethel tour, and reported them, thought that they were gaining some "brownie points" with god, or the organization, by doing that? They might have been...might have been.

Well, yeah, I did, to some extent. When I was young, I was able to work at a Refreshment Stand. One of the brothers would manage the stand. AT those district assemblies---in a large stadium like Dodger Stadium---loudspeakers had been routed into the Refreshment Stand, so we didn't have to go out into the seating area, to listen to the program. We could listen to the program inside the shaded area of the food stand. Thinking of assemblies---it has now been 54 years since the "Peace On Earth" International Assembly was held at Dodger Stadium. For 7 days, July 14th to July 20th. Is there anyone else who's reading this who was there? Just wondering. Best Regards, Everyone.---Titch.

Undisfellowshipping - ever heard of it happening?
by no-zombie inwhile we are aware of the flip-flopping of doctrinal matters, revisions to how certain sins are handled judicially have also occurred.
additionally, there has been rulings created by the governing body, that has put people into situations where 'sinning' (and their disfellowshiping) was inevitable.
for example in times past, it was issues over if one mate committed acts bestiality or when the parents of hemophiliac children allowed the use of blood fractions on them.

No-Zombie: Yes, I do remember that happening, a long time ago, in the 1970s. I am not an Elder nor ever was one. But I do remember one individual, who I'll only identify as Paul. He had been dis-fellowshipped for a few years. And, an announcement was made from the stage that his dis-fellowshippment from years ago had been rescinded, or undone, reversed. So, it did happen, in my collective memory. Best Regards.-----Titch.
