Well, Lady Lee, it seems to me, based upon this post, that you have accomplished MANY different things in the past few years. And, I congratulate you on that!---Titch.

The Meaning of ETC
by titch infolks: i don't mean to be a "forum grammar policeman", but there is something that i've noticed a few times.
i've noticed that a few---not all---but some, members of the forum who use the abbreviation "ect" when they want to use the abbreviation of "etc.
" for your education today, the term "etc" is the abbreviation for the latin term "et cetera.

AND ANOTHER THING!!! One other grammar error that I see quite often is this: The use of the term "could of" or "should of" for the terms "could have" or "should have." I suppose that the mistake comes from the words "could've" and "should've" Another confusion is the words "there", "their", and "they're." So, Folks, once again, let's try to use the correct terminology. Best Regards. Titch, the Pedantic Person.

Folks: As an aside, I've thought of what "ETC" could be an abbreviation for. How about "Extra Terrestrial Children"; Extra Terrestrial Chimpanzees; Extra Terrestrial Conveyances (space ships?) Come up with some others. Be original and creative, Folks!----Titch.

LHG: In reading the article from the post by PeacefulPete, I must say that I DO have some characteristics of the OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) spectrum, But, you do bring up some interesting, valid points. I don't know where you are located in the U.S., or what your age is, but I was educated here in Southern California, and was educated from 1959-1972, 1972 being the year when I graduated from high school. Yes, there has probably been a lot of "dumbing-down" in education since then. Thanks for the comments.Best Regards, Everyone----Titch. The Pedantic Person.

PeacefulPete: Thanks for the link to that article. I did not know what a pedantic person was/is, but now I know. So, thanks. Perhaps I should consider becoming, in my old age, a proof reader. And, TonusOH, I do understand the situation of making typos, as one gets older. That happens with me, too. But, one more thing before I put this topic to bed, once and for all. I see that there are several people on here who phrase plurals as having an "apostrophe and s" at the end of a noun. Such as cat's for the word cats, or dog's for the word dogs...or pedantic's for pedantics. Best Regards, Everyone.----Titch, the Pedantic Person.

Folks: I don't mean to be a "Forum Grammar Policeman", but there is something that I've noticed a few times. I've noticed that a few---not all---but some, members of the forum who use the abbreviation "ect" when they want to use the abbreviation of "etc." For your education today, the term "etc" is the abbreviation for the Latin term "et cetera." Basically, "et cetera" means, in Latin, "and other similar things." In Latin, the word "et" means "and". "Cetera" means "the rest." Thus, "and the rest"; or, "and other things"; "and so forth." The abbreviation of "ect" could be used for "electro convulsive therapy", or, "shock therapy." So, that's my suggestion for the day...try to use the correct term "etc", not "ect." Just thought I'd mention this. Best Regards, Folks.----Titch.

NotFormer: Well, yeah, that was the mindset of that particular Elder, at that time. Wearing a long, ankle-length dress was being, well, "too casual." What his reasoning was, I do not know. In retrospect, what I should've been thinking was "just how long a dress should be, in order to please the Body of Elders in the congregation." Best Regards, Everyone.-----Titch.

Door to Door Witnessing Anxiety
by NotFormer init's not only the jws who do door to door witnessing.
the independent baptists for the most part have "soul winning", mainly door to door witnessing and leaving tracts, as a tennet of their faith.
this discussion is interesting:.

NotFormer: Well yes I can sympathize with their anxiety. Personally, for many years, I've felt that it is NOT humanly "Natural" for people to go from door to door. to present their personal religious "belief system" or "belief structure" to other people. It just isn't. That is an activity that human beings just "naturally" don't do. Best Regards.....Titch.
