I'd like to "echo" the words of ScenicViewer, on page 1 of this thread..."What difference does it make?" What does it matter? Yeah, we have, once in a while, a solar eclipse. Eclipses happen. So what, they are a "natural phenomenon" when a "new moon" happens. We also have "lunar eclipses" that happen once in a while. So, what? They happen. So? Titch.

That photo seems to me to be the Santa Anita Race Track, in Santa Anita, California. But the race track at which district assemblies were held (1976, 1977 1979) was the Hollywood Park Race Track, which was right under the Final Approach path to L.A. International Airport, in Inglewood, California. That race track was demolished several yea years ago, and now, in its place is a football stadium, at which the L.A. Rams and the L.A. Chargers play. An interesting side-story to the 1976 District Assembly. I'm not a pilot, but I have been listening to the aviation frequencies here in Southern California for many years, on one of my many multi-band radios. I took one of them with me to the assembly, and had it in my car. After the final session I went to the car, and was listening to L.A. Control Tower. One airliner---I think it was Western, or maybe PSA, the pilot said to the Controller, "Hey, what's happening at the Race Track today, there's a whole lot of cars there and a lot of people in the stadium." At which the Tower Controller said, "Well, maybe they are showing a movie or something." Classic!Best Regards, Everyone.----Titch.

Well, no, I didn't. Back in elementary school, I talked to the School Principal, and explained to him the stand that my religion had, towards reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and the National Anthem. And, he told me, basically, don't worry about it, you don't have to say the Pledge or stand for the National Anthem. When I got into junior high school, I had a Science class teacher for my First Period class; he questioned me about it when he observed me not saying the Pledge, and I told him about the religious belief that I had at that time. After that, it was not a problem.
Now, fast forward to high school. In my Junior Year, I had a U.S. History class, as most students had when they were in their Junior Year. One day, it was quite surprising, that my teacher showed a movie, called "And Justice For the Majority ." That movie was about the legal battles that Jehovah's Witnesses fought, during and after World War II, concerning the Pledge and the National Anthem. He said that the purpose of showing that movie to all of us kids in the class was to show that our country, the United States, had people in it who had different opinions regarding the Pledge and the National Anthem. And, that we should respect the different opinions of people. Now, he also explained that he, as a teacher, preferred to NOT have the ritual of the Pledge every morning, and the only reason he recited it was to avoid having any "problems" or issues with any parents of his students. Best Regards, Everyone.-----Titch.

Folks: Regarding all the recent changes about dis-fellowshipping and time for re-instatement. (And, even speaking to persons who are dis-fellowshpped.) Back in 1972, a new book was released at the Summer District Convention, that replaced the yellow-colored "Lamp": book. (I think that book was referred to as the "Organization" book.) And, in that book it was stated that after a person was dis-fellowshipped, he or she could ask the BOE to be re-instated after a 6-month period. That is, IF they were repentant of what they had been dis-fellowshpped for and truly wanted to return to the org. So, a 6-month period was established, for applying for re-instatement.
Fast forward to around June or July of 1974. A Watchtower study article was published regarding not being so "hard-lined" about speaking to a person who had been dis-fellowshipped, and was trying to make a return to the organization. I think that it gave an example of, if you happened to see a d-fed person who had some car problems, while they were driving to the local K.H., you shouldn't hesitate to stop and help them. That would be the proper thing to do. Now, the thought was that if you were NOT and Elder, you shouldn't engage the person in any "spiritual fraternization" with them, but leave that up to Elders/Overseers. Other than that, light conversation was permitted with them, for the purpose of encouraging them to return to the organization.
Now, fast forward to about 1980 or 1981. A Watchtower article was published, that kind of reversed the policy/thought of having a conversation with a dis-fellowshipped person. Apparently, there were many who had "gone overboard" with the "conversation thing." And, they needed to be reminded about the purpose of disfellowshipping a person.
So, those are my remembrances of things past. How about you Folks? Do you remember those things? Let me know. Best Regards to all, and for those in the Northern Hemisphere, Happy Spring. For those in the Southern Hemisphere, Happy Autumn. ----- Titch.

The Meaning of ETC
by titch infolks: i don't mean to be a "forum grammar policeman", but there is something that i've noticed a few times.
i've noticed that a few---not all---but some, members of the forum who use the abbreviation "ect" when they want to use the abbreviation of "etc.
" for your education today, the term "etc" is the abbreviation for the latin term "et cetera.

AND ANOTHER THING!!! One other grammar error that I see quite often is this: The use of the term "could of" or "should of" for the terms "could have" or "should have." I suppose that the mistake comes from the words "could've" and "should've" Another confusion is the words "there", "their", and "they're." So, Folks, once again, let's try to use the correct terminology. Best Regards. Titch, the Pedantic Person.

Folks: As an aside, I've thought of what "ETC" could be an abbreviation for. How about "Extra Terrestrial Children"; Extra Terrestrial Chimpanzees; Extra Terrestrial Conveyances (space ships?) Come up with some others. Be original and creative, Folks!----Titch.

LHG: In reading the article from the post by PeacefulPete, I must say that I DO have some characteristics of the OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) spectrum, But, you do bring up some interesting, valid points. I don't know where you are located in the U.S., or what your age is, but I was educated here in Southern California, and was educated from 1959-1972, 1972 being the year when I graduated from high school. Yes, there has probably been a lot of "dumbing-down" in education since then. Thanks for the comments.Best Regards, Everyone----Titch. The Pedantic Person.
