Met, its an interesting thought for sure. 15 years ago it would have been unthinkable.... But more and more it is in fact happening. What gives me pause in totally buying it is there another principle in play here that works against it. Along with "follow the money" i have always believed in this one: the first rule of power is, those that have it will do anything to keep it. I cant believe they will walk away from the power they (the GB) have.

Are They Cynically Shutting Down The Organization?
by metatron ini've raised this idea before but recent events seem to support it.
changes in the watchtower may be guided by more than a need for cash flow: they may simply be liquidating/shutting it down as discreetly as possible.. of course, this doesn't mean they stop working on their upstate ny country club - but it could mean that the throrough going exposure and disproof of their beliefs on the internet, when it emerged, took many of them by surprize, as it did many of us!
after awhile, they generally gave up trying to make any sense of their doctrines - and coupled with cash flow issues - moved towards a quiet retreat.. take a look at a few things:.

Well reasoned Q. It will be missed of course, as is the fact that repeatedly the exjwforjeshuawhatyamacallhim forum has invited people to lurk, now its owner is chastizing you for it, but again, no supprise :) ive looked at it too, and for the same reasons. I was very curious to see what happens when the owner is left unchallenged and unchecked from reality. It was every bit as icky feeling as i would have imagined.

And i hope its abundantly clear i agree and do the same cofty! I feel its critical to engage people and reason with them so that they do not fall prey to something without seeing the other side. If they still choose after seeing others call "BS" then so be it.

Coffy, i agree whole heartly on that. But as a former follower of the wt cult i reconize that trying to convince someone they are in a cult only goes so far. After a while you are just pushing them deeper into it. Tec has been reasoned with adinfinitium about this. In the end she is grown and if she choose to continue following its her choice :) we can remain viglant about warning newer one from the cult, but some are simply happy following. It really is their choice.

by Gorbatchov inthe jw.org video about the annual meeting contains david splane saying "we just love this idea", when talking about the adjusted fds doctrine.
"we just love this idea"????
when it becomes one of the fundament teachings of the organisational part of a religion, the rank-and-file witnesses are expected to be convinced about these kind of doctrines.
