Holy Spirit and Governing Body voting
by Think About It inhow in the world can a religious organization that claims to be god's true channel on earth and led my his holy spirit have a majority of it's gb members vote yes on something, but it not pass because 2/3's didn't vote yes?
why would these supposely "spirit annointed" leaders of the "only true religion" not all be lead by holy spirit to pass an important mandate or change?
in coc ray franz talks of jw life affecting voting not passing because although it was a majority, it wasn't 2/3's or a gb member was gone during the vote.

1. When eyes of blind ones see again
And ears of deaf ones hear again,
When deserts blossom as the rose
And from parched ground fresh water flows,
When lame ones leap just like the hart,
When loved ones never have to part,
Such blessed times you’ll realize,
If you keep your eyes on the prize.
2. When tongues of mute ones speak again,
When old ones will be young again,
When earth will yield her rich increase
And all good things will never cease,
When songs of children fill the air,
When joy and peace are ev’rywhere,
Then, too, you’ll see the dead arise,
If you keep your eyes on the prize.
3. When wolves and lambs will feed as one,
When bears and calves bask in the sun,
A mere young boy will lead them all,
And they will heed his childish call.
When tears belong to yesterday,
When fears and pain have passed away,
You’ll see how God these things supplies,
If you keep your eyes on the priz

Dont forget that this same principle applies locally as well. When someone sits before a JC there fate is decided by three of four men who will vote on whether or not they think that person is repentant. it then becomes a simple matter of which man on that committe can sway the others to his way of thinking.

They were losing elders to pornography and they changed the rules to accommodate them.
They were losing pioneers as times got tougher and they just kept getting reduced hours so they could stay under WT's thumbs.
Thats an interesting thought as well... i was thinking that once a brother or sister commits what the org calls a "sin" and then is "forgiven" it inspires more loyalty as they have been shown "mercy". Its kind of sick when you think about it. Convince them they did something wrong and then "forgive" them, all leading to more devotion to the one who "forgave", the organization. I found this that goes down that same line of thought:
As a foundation for authoritarian control
Yoga teachers Joel Kramer and Diana Alstad analyse the use of unconditional love and the associated concept of forgiveness as a foundation for authoritarian control. [33] They survey a number of religions worldwide and conclude that the imperative of forgiveness is often used by leaders to perpetrate cycles of ongoing abuse. They state that "to forgive without requiring the other to change is not only self-destructive, but ensures a dysfunctional relationship will remain so by continually rewarding mistreatment."
For instance, one Christian sect, the Anabaptists, take Christian imperatives to forgive particularly seriously, interpret them literally and apply them rigorously inside their closed churches. As such, they are a case where one can assess the effects of applying religious-based forgiveness in all situations, 'no matter what'. Not surprisingly, they have a well-deserved reputation for being gentle people but, inside their communities, rigorously obeying (Christian) religious imperatives to forgive, 'no matter what', has been reported to cause effects similar to what Kramer and Alstad theorize in their abstract analysis. Kramer and Alstad also point out similar dynamics operating in Eastern 'Oneness' religions in their wide-ranging analysis of the religious roots of authoritarian control.
Kramer and Alstad assert that of faith-based ideals of forgiveness, while appearing selfless, contain implicit selfish aspects. They state that "when forgiving contains a moral component, there is moral superiority in the act itself that can allow one to feel virtuous". They ask: "As long as one is judging the other lacking, how much letting go can there be?" They note that "Where the virtue in 'moralistic foregiving' lies is also complicated by the fact that it is often unclear who benefits more from it, the one doing the forgiving or the one being forgiven." Not surprisingly, they note "that for many people, forgiving is an area of confusion intellectually."

Can someone explain this?
by UnConfused ini decided to fly to visit a friend on the board.. small airport.. called and there were seats available.. got to the airport and was not allowed to buy a ticket because it was "too late" to do so.. the plane hadn't even arrived from it's previous flight so it was going to be a while.. the fellow wasn't sure why the computer wouldn't let him sell a ticket and sighted security.. but when i pointed out that didn't make sense because whether i bought a ticket now or a week ago they were going to check my baggage.. he agreed.. i left, frustrated..

The time deal is to allow consultation with the no fly list. It has been noted that many terrorist attempt to buy tickets at the last minute using cash. I'm not saying its right or makes sense, I'm just saying thats why the time restriction is there as I understand it. It happened to me and that is the answer I got, for whatever its worth.

2. Though thousands will be falling,
Yes, at your very side,
Ten thousand at your right hand,
No harm will you betide.
You will not need to quake with fear,
As though great harm to you were near.
Your eyes will merely see it,
As ’neath God’s wings you’ll abide.
The new says...
***snsong49JehovahIsOurRefuge***
2. Though thousands will be fallingAlong your very side,
Among those who are loyal,
In safety you’ll reside.
You will not need to quake with fear,
As though great harm to you were near.
Your eyes will merely see it,
Underneath God’s wings you’ll abide.
a briliant stroke, changing it from looking to God for protection, to "staying with those that are loyal" I.E. in the congregation and more specfically, under the direction of the slave class.

Elderlite, I am more and more thoroughly convinced that WTS is switching to a smaller, more loyal membership base, shaking out the independent thinkers. They hope to hold onto several million long enough to squeeze money out of them, but they see the future and are prepared to be more direct in their control and lose even half or more of the "7 million" as long as the remainder bow to them.
OTWO,
Scary but seems to be the case. I also wonder if there isn't an element of "1984" here as well where Orwell portrayed the grasp of power as being one that was gradual. It was brought to bear more and more over time so that even the most independent was eventually crushed, but not outright. The scariest thought in that book for me, as it relates to the WTS, is that the motivation was not money or something tangible. It was described as having the power over thoughts and emotions, over the very will and spirit of a person. all of this subtle manipulation seems designed on some level to crush the spirit of as many as possible. In "1984" those that ultimately would not succumb were indoctrinated at the highest levels by the "ministry of Love", or more to the point, tortured . Then after months of indoctrinated, when the person had finally succumbed, they killed them to prevent them from ever having an indepent thought every again, and as a warning to others. How much of a stretch is it to make the comparison when the WT calls DF"ing "a loving provision to protect the congregation"? I wonder if they really think they will keep most and make them more loyal thru all of this and lose far fewer than we may otherwise expect.... Reading 1984 is a case study in JW tactics

Observations since the book study arrangement finished
by truthseeker indoes anyone have any interesting observations since the book study arrangement in private homes finished?.
are jws happier with the extra night off?
do they miss the book study?

I doubt my observations will be considered interesting but I went through a period of mixed emotions. I missed the friends and the association. we were a very tight group. we took trips and did lots of different fun things besides FS. But as an elder I'm happier than I can tell you. I hated that extra night and work. Now frankly i am just plain glad. all of the other elders have expressed similar sentiments. just one congregations take

Question About Breast Photographs
by AudeSapere inplease, please, please don't make this thread go bad.
i have a fairly serious but gently light-hearted question.. i am on my out the door to meet a friend for consultion with a surgeon who specializes in breast surgery.
the reason for the consultation is that breast mri and biopsy shows possible cancerous lesions.
