Violence Training

did anybody notice the paragraph in today's study edition that pretty much said that "violent video games and movies are training people to be violent towards each other during the great tribulation".. i really had to do my best to not laugh when i read this.

i don't know if any of you watch penn & teller's show.

they did a show on violent video games and their effect.

True Christians here on earth will have no part in that destruction. It is God’s war. He will use angelic forces under Christ to carry out the execution. He will also cause one part of Satan’s visible organization to turn on the other in violent hatred. But Jehovah’s servants on earth are not to join in the violence. (2 Corinthians 10:3, 4) Even when persecution is directed against them, they must not retaliate by seeking revenge against the rulers or trying to overthrow the government. They wait on God. “Do not avenge yourselves, beloved, but yield place to the wrath; for it is written: ‘Vengeance is mine; I will repay, says Jehovah.’”—Romans 12:19.

Was the legend about Smurfs being demonic just an urban legend, or was it mentioned in the literature?

i never heard about the smurfs being evil until i joined the forum.

but when i look in the volume library, the word doesn't come up.

i was wondering if anyone ever heard mention of it in the literature--as in, was it an official position?.

its a "worldly" holiday and both my daughter and i are at home, not in service.

i got up, made us breakfast, (sausage and eggs) and now i'm playing on jw net.. on the downside, my wife and son are out in service and i have to sit down and put together my service groups time and turn that in to the secretary... (although my son didnt want to go.. he complained "cant we just have a chill day".. i was going to let him stay home but he changed his mind to go see a friend who said he was also going out...).

all you active jw's... did you or are you going out..or are you ditching?.

High School Homecoming and MUMS?

as most of you know........ i am from texas originally.. each year as homecoming rolls around schools across that state become 'frenzied' with various 'school spirit' activities ending with the wearing of mums (garters for boys) to school on friday.. i recently was talking to a 'yankee' boy and he didn't know what i was talking about (mums/garters or homecoming)......(blasphemy!)..

anywho it got me thinking...... is mums/ garters limited to texas/oklahoma?

(surely our southern cousins too have them -- right?).

after being reinstated in 2008, i was finally appointed ms last night.. i am so excited now that i have a certain measure of 'power'.. ex-ms's/elders, what types of challenges come with this priviledge?.

what will be expected from me?.

razkat, I understand you are new so i'll help you out on this one. First, MS dont council anybody, otherthan their wives. Second, AFGM is a troll. On this thread he was appointed as a MS, another thread he reads letters to the BOE, another thread he is giving his first public talk, another thread he is deleted for looking at porn. read, laugh, but dont take it seriously.

i was once counseled for not shaving after two days.

i was also counseled by a sister for eating lucky charms cereal.

one thing you may want to look up..... there were some "pop culture" phenomenon that were criticized in the pages of the awake, usually watching the world. A few examples I recall were something called "garbage pail kids" ( there were very popular in my area) and Pokémon. The blurbs were short but they showed an overreaction to something basically innocent.
