So...is David Splaine the new bible scholar (or Fred Franz) of the WTBTS?

he doesnt seem like a hard hitter or bad ass or anything, but it seems like the kinda guy, that if you went out in field service with, that he would constantly correct you, and have smart ass comments to make about the householders who arent intrested in owning a watchtower or awake..

Yes i think a lot of power is residing in departments at this point. but remember, we all have to respect the GB or the whole house of cards comes down. So they will always be figureheads and as long as they have a bit of political savy they will be able to use that figurehead status to wield a bit o power
BTW every member I have ever spent a little time around was a serious koolaid drinker. they may not agree with EVERY doctrine, but they drink the koolaid heavily

Mind Control
by brotherdan inso i've been reading stephen hassan's book on mind control and he made an interesting point that made me think about myself.
he asks the question, "what makes some people just walk out of cults on their own, while others require much harsher measures from others to get them out?".
most of you know that i was thoroughly indoctrinated as a jw.

Very nice thread dan.. I think for me the two points mentioned were key for me
having friends outside the org.. I always have. I was never big on "bad association is evil".. i work with people all day i have to be somewhat friendly with them and the more I hung out the more I realized they were a lot like me. Honest folks trying to make a living.
and the critical thinking. I have a fairly sensitve bullshit meter. needless to say its been going off like crazy for years but CD is a bitch.. it took all of a few days reading here to send me down this road..

Jwwoods- you could be right but i was there when Losche was brought in and the boys had a real hard on for him.. they were propping him up mightily to the family. I dont know what has happened in the mean while and situations are always developing but I believe he was thought to be the future

agnous you are so right about lett. We had him at the international last year and that is EXACTLY the impression I got of him as well. I ate lunch with him and "rubber faced genial goof ball" is the PERFECT description. He lacks that certain "something", that willingness to be an ass to get your way, that a heavy weight must possess.

Diana, I can only say that you asked. You got what you asked for. OPINIONS. I find it ironic that the vast majority who are telling you its OK are women. Most men seem to be trying to dissuade you.. what does that tell you about the positive motive these people have? far from being harsh or judging I think most are simply telling you what we would tell our own daughters. Hell, if you set up a paypal account I'll donate a few bucks... that isnt judging, its concern.
