Good one, Sab. At least with slot machines every now and then someone wins something. Organized religion is the slot machine that NEVER pays out.

Theological exposé of the realm of DEMONS - the GARAGE!
by Nathan Natas ina person buys a lamp at a local store.. the lamp won't talk to him or fly about the room, so he decides to sell the worthless piece of junk at a garage sale.. a jw buys the lamp, takes it home, and it immediately begins speaking to her in the foulest form of backwards latin she has ever heard, and as it does so it flies around the room, repeatedly making bombing runs at her head.
this jw, however is fully equipped with the spiritual suit of armor and calls upon jehovah trismegistus ("jehovah, jehovah, jehovah!
") and the lamps explodes into harmless ceramic shards.

Does anyone remember that Watchtower from the 80s that about Spiritism and was full of demon stories? It was the cover story. If I recall, it was mainly about stories from Africa...a lady was possessed and the demons were making her stomach bloat or something. And other incidences involving physical harm.
If anyone has that or a link please share, it would be fun to read again.

Good one Nathan. Love the "Jehovah Trismegistus"!
Funny you mention a lamp from a garage sale. My best friend growing up had this exact problem (allegedly)...got a lamp from a garage sale, had some bad dreams, claims he seen a dark shadowy figure in his room. Demons! They throw out the lamp. Problem solved!
He's a fringe JW now but still staunchly believes it is the "truth". Funny thing is in a conversation last year he still mentioned that demon incident and it is the reason why he believes in "the truth"...because, and I quote "I've seen Satan". I say "wow...really...you've SEEN Satan?" He says "well one of his demons anyways."

1975, generation change and New Light - the WTBTS position
by Nickolas inthe words below are taken from the latest version of the watchtower bible and tract society's history book.
it is a response i have received from a jehovah's witness to my questions about how the watchtower bible and tract society represented the year 1975 and recent changes in generation teaching.
beyond saying there are some interesting insights into the society's position on new light, i will withhold comment until i get some feedback from the board.. the bible itself says: do not interpretations belong to god?

Thanks Nickolas. Nearly every single illustration or analogy they use are like that. What is that called...a red herring? Not sure.
They usually go something like this..."You wouldn't take a knife and stab yourself in the eye would you? Of course not! So, therefore, we wouldn't want to associate with worldly people any more than is neccessary."

"If a person has been in a dark room for a long period of time, is it not best if he is exposed to light gradually? Jehovah has exposed his people to the light of truth in a similar manner; he has enlightened them progressively."
This is a flawed illustration. It is comparing literal bright light to a pair of physical eyes that would indeed have a hard time adjusting. So they are saying that god doesn't think his people could handle "truth" all at once. For what, their protection?
If truths are revealed in "new light" for the protection and aid of his people, then why the delay with the blood issue? Not revealing the ability to use parts of blood to his people sooner, god needlessly allowed countless ones to die. That is the opposite of lovingly revealing truths.
It would be like throwing that person stuck in a dark room into the daylight immediately. Then, after some time, giving him some sunglasses.
As usual, complete BS.

It almost seems like they are hinting that your health doesn't matter. Don't worry about it because the new system is coming!
In my early teens I remember the dentist advising braces. I didn't want them of course (what kid does?) but justified it with "the new system will be here soon enough, it would be a waste of money". My parents didn't disagree and went along with it, as we really did believe it.
So dumb...should've gotten the braces!

Good points simon17. The Genesis account just doesn't make any sense on so many levels.
As you mentioned, Adam was created first and god seen that Adam was bored and lonely so he THEN created a woman for him. Evolution would then indeed be an impossibility.
Side point...if god created Eve only AFTER Adam was lonely why did god give Adam reproductive organs in the first place? What was the plan there? Pretty much everything in nature has a male/female dependecy for propagation of life. So he created Adam with "junk" for no reason? THEN decided to match a woman up to him? Right.
I would say this though...you could believe in a god and that he used evolution and leave it at that. But to believe that it was the god of the BIBLE and that everything in the bible is true requires a suspension of logical thinking.

believingexjw, You are clearly avoiding a discussion involving physical, real world evidence. You're spewing straw man arguments that try to deflect attention from tangible facts, many of which you've been presented with on this thread. Check them out. Live long (naturally) and prosper.

Next up...Paleogeographic views of earth's history provided by Ron Blakey, Professor of Geology, Northern Arizona University.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uGcDed4xVD4&feature=player_embedded
This is what biogeography is all about. Already mentioned before but needs to be again. A great example of this is the lemurs in Madagascar - the only place on the planet they exist. Let's consider two explanations of this...
1) If evolution were true, this is EXACTLY what you would expect to see. Madagascar wasn't always an island, but it did become one millions of years ago. Not only an island in a geographic sense, but it also could be considered an "island" when it comes to the gene pool. Lemurs evolved over millions of years, cut off in its own gene pool island, from a common shared ancestor of modern monkeys. Hence we have lemurs and are unique ONLY to Madagascar and no where else on the planet.
2) If the bible were true, there was a global flood sometime in the past 10,000 years. We know for a fact that Madagascar has been an island for millions of years. So how did lemurs end up ONLY in Madagascar? When Noah's ark finally settled somewhere (say Mt. Ararat) and all the animals dispersed - how did the lemurs even get to the island of Madagascar? Did every single one of them hike (and swim apparently) directly to Madagascar without one being left behind? Did god give them a map and direct orders to get thee to Madagascar pronto? The same questions apply to kangaroos in Australia, kakapo parrot only in New Zealand or even no native land mammals at all in New Zealand. These are just a few examples but there are thousands like this on our planet.
