I visit Vancouver regularly. Great city to visit but the real estate is insanely expensive. Think it was rated 3rd highest average in the world, after Melbourne and Hong Kong, if I recall.

On the new album my two favs are still Codex and Little By Little.
Too hard to pick one single all-time favorite though...here's a few:
Airbag, Karma Police, Let Down, Fake Plastic Trees, I Might Be Wrong, Weird Fishes, House of Cards...
Thom Yorke's single All For The Best is pretty good too.

Yeah, the 8 tracks is a little weak....this could have been a B-side to In Rainbows. But I'll take the 8....along with some Crown Royal. Cheers.

Are You A "Dictionary Atheist"?
by cofty inthere is more to .. atheism than simple denial of one claim; it's actually based on a scientific attitude that values evidence and reason, that rejects claims resting solely on authority, and that encourages deeper exploration of the world.
atheism is not solely a negative claim about gods, but is based on a whole set of positive values ... that denial of god thing?
it's a consequence, not a cause.

Unshakled I think Myers' point is that this really doesn't say anything. It's a natural defence when believers repeat the old canard about atheism being "just another religion" or "I don't have enough faith to be an atheist" etc but it is an empty statement.
Yeah Cofty...that makes sense. My comment was not neccessarily directed at the Myer's comments. I get off track from the OP.
I had started a thread on this rough analogy some time back, but I'll post it again. Here's my simplified analogy of humans on this earth...and what atheists stand for:
Picture a group of people that find themselves on a deserted island, with amnesia, therefore no knowledge of anything about how they got there or why they are there.
One third of the group notices the SUN everyday and the warmth it brings, etc. They decide that must be a "god"...they must worship it.
Another third of the group notices the MOON and decide that must be "god" and therefore they're going worship the moon.
The SUN group and the MOON group eventually argue over their "gods" and who has the right one. They even begin to fight over it, hitting each other with sticks and coming to blows. Some people are injured, and some have even been killed.
The final third of the group, which didn't sign up for either the moon group and the sun group steps in and says: "whoa, whoa, whoa everybody. We DON'T know how or why we are here. But let's keep looking for clues and stop jumping to conclusions and fighting over it."
That non-believing third group represents what an atheist is trying to do today. Offer a voice of reason to stop the fighting over their assumed "gods". If everyone would abandon their made up story and we all continued to attempt to unravel the mysteries of the universe, this world would be much better place. -

Leaving & PurpleSofa....I don't feel like Limbs is a dissapointment. Though not nearly as good as In Rainbows, which was such an accessible album for non-Radiohead fans.
For me, Radiohead is like ordering pizza from the best place in town. May not be as good as the last time, but damn, pizza is good!

All the gods man has created are just guesses as to how and why we are here. An atheist is someone who doesn't sign up for any those guess belief systems.

Yep, if Radiohead showed up and told me to get into a spaceship with them, I would.
Listened to The King of Limbs couple times today. Excellent followup to In Rainbows. -

The First Cause
by sabastious inmainstream religion considers their versions of god the first cause.
they also assign a name to that first cause (the lord, allah, jesus, jehovah etc).
to me, this is a contradictory stance and my reasons might be a little wordy (they were worldy at first but i figured i would just remove the l).. the begin, i think we have to wrap our heads around this first cause as much as our minds are capable of.

Of course no one can know how or why the universe is the way it is, or what was the first cause. Believers will say it was their god of choice, but this is nothing short of a simply a guess. For which there could be an endless amount of guesses.
"In many cultures it is customary to answer that God created the universe out of nothing. But this is mere temporizing. If we wish courageously to pursue the question, we must, of course ask next where God comes from? And if we decide this to be unanswerable, why not save a step and conclude that the universe has always existed?" - Carl Sagan
