will be able to ask for a supply of the simplified version each month.. this simplified version can be downloaded from the watchtower site.. http://www.jw.org/index.html.
"We cannot train our perceptive powers if we only do what other people do or if we expect others to tell us what to do." - pg.6, par. 7
Then this . . . "But we are acting against Jehovah’s purpose if we do not obey the faithful and discreet slave or if we choose to obey only what we think is important." - pg. 21, par. 17
Well that is rich. Don't let others tell you what to do, BUT you must obey the Governing Body. How do you not see thru this shite...McFly, hello McFly, are you in there?
Luongo is obviously a big and very talented goalie. It is his mental game that I question. He seems to get rattled, lose confidence, doubt himself. A death potion in sports. We'll see if he can pull it together this year. We'll start to find out in just a few minutes...
GOrwell...I don't know how Detroit stays so consistently good. It only points to their great ownership, management, scouting system.
i had my "awakening" about a year ago, after spending my entire adolescent life feeling as if i was the only one among my associates with my head screwed on straight.
i was appalled by the nearly universal ignorance and deplorable close-mindedness and stupidty of the jws, the arbitrary dismissal of all scientific evidence as mere "human speculation", etc.
the 2008 change in the definition of the "generation" (at age 18) is what made me seriously commit to an investigation of my long held beliefs, a belief system and world view that had been permanently graphed onto my still developing brain as an infant.. some things the bee hive subscribe to are so irrational, yet i still held firmly to the belief that they must have the "truth", since i still believed in the bible as the inerrant, completely inspired word of god, and jws were the religion that most stringently adhered to actual bible teachings in a majority of cases - ie - no hellfire, no immortal soul, no trinity, etc... after an exhaustive study of the organization's origins in the russell and rutherford eras, and their history of constantly revised doctrines, failed predictions, and absurd beliefs subsequently abandoned and revised only after the passing of time deemed them impossible, i came to the conclusion that they were not "god's channel", and they certainly had no claim to exclusivity as "god's only chosen people who would survive destruction".... so that lead me to the next logical assumption..if not even the jws have the truth, and all the other christian denominations grossly misrepresent biblical teachings and distort the teachings of christ, and compromise on the principles he taughts us to abide by...then god has no earthly organization..he has abandoned us to our own devices...he has left us all alone, and he has left us in this state of affairs for at least the last 2,000 years... after moving beyond the the typical jw dismisal of all science that could possibly contradict the bible and their beliefs, i took up an objective, unbiased, study of science...and what i discovered is that without any presupositional limitations to one's critical analysis of the fact...science's theory of evolution is the best explanation for the diversity and nature of biological life around us...i also discovered that although there is dispute among scientists as to the explanation for evolution or the origin of life itself...that there is no dispute as to the validity of evolution.. the fact that evolution happened and continues to happen before our very eyes is incontrovertible...absolutely indisputable when objectively evaluating all the mountains of evidence..multiple lines of evidence that all converge at one point...common descent..as but one example - the anatomical distinction between homo sapiens sapiens and homo sapien neanderthalis emerge at a certain point in the fossil record..and not coincidentally the mapping of the neanderthal and modern human genomes point to a genetic divergence at the exact same time as the fossil record indicates!.
A team knowing that a player on the opposing team is using an illegal stick and not bringing it up till you need the call isn't a new issue.
I quit: True. If I recall the Kings' coach that year was Barry Melrose, no? I think he took some blame for that Marty incident...a coach is usually aware of which players he has use a stick that could be illegal.
My pick is San Jose VS Washington. I hope I am wrong.
momma: Certainly a possible final matchup. So who you pickin' if those two meet up?
GOrwell: Agree with you on the Hawks/Canucks. The other things in Hawks favor are their experience and one Jonathan Toews.
last friday, a woman i work with, who reminds me of scully from the x-files, asked me to hang out with her and her friends at a watering hole not that far from where we work.
she and her friends get off roughly an hour before i get off, and considering the amount of work i had on my desk at the time, and the amount of time i wasted on here, i knew it'd would be a while before i caught up with them.
so i told her i'll try, but i won't get off until roughly 6:30pm or later.

Some of us are more naturally introverted and were already shy about meeting new people or experiencing new things. The WT rule of "no worldly association" was not so much a protection as it was an excuse to never having to try to fit in and learn to socialize.
This is a really good point UC. I know I used to fit into that category. Still catch myself even today thinking that way sometimes. Guess there's still a few of those JW marbles rolling around in my head.

The JW upbringing isn't too easy to shake either, as I feel like Satan is making a go at me. I know that's silly, its rubbish, but like I said, this religion tentacles are still significantly attached to me.
I can relate to that feeling. A few years back when my final ties to the Dubs were broken (separated from JW wife), I decided to join the softball league that a coworker invited me to. Starting out I felt extremely awkward…like I was somewhere where I shouldn't be. Didn't feel like I fit in. Almost felt like I was looking at people still with JW goggles on…WORLDY people! And felt they were looking at me as if to say "you KNOW you don't below here." Of course it was all in my head. It was a strange experience.
Eventually I got rid of those feelings…and embraced it fully. Nothing like a weekend tournament, playing ball, spending way too much time in the beer tent, having a hoot in the parking lot in between games. This JW had gone to the dark side and wasn't turning back.
Hey I quit...I'd like your Kings chances better if Kopitar wasn't out. Huge loss. But this team has time...their young and only getting better. Doughty is a beast!
I have vivid memories of the Kings' 1993 Cup run. That game where Gretz busted out against the Leafs was a great performance. Remember the goal he scored circling behind the net and bounced the puck off the defensemen into the net? I'm certain that was fully intentional.
The Roy wink was cool. THough I'd say the turning point of that Cup Finals was the Game 2 illegal stick penalty to Marty McSorley. Kings were on the verge of going 2-0 in the series. But the Habs scored on the late power play and then in OT for the win.
