Your Age at Baptism (into JWs, not Catholics or Baptists - duh)
by undercover inleavingwt mentioned on another thread the age of his wife when she was baptized.
she was a child.
how can you expect a child to make such a decision?.

A reason christs ransom makes no sense to me
by Aussie Oz indo you remember the old jeff bridges film ''the last starman''?.
basic theme was an extra terestrial energy life transmogrified into a human and impregnated a woman with a seed that would become the savior of humanity.. hollywood is an old hand at using good v evil sort of messages that have ideoligical ties to the bible and the 'need' for mankind to be saved from themselves.. what gets me about this particular film is that the savior to come was there for all humanity.
no conditions were placed on how many from what nations could benefit, nor was salvation only for those who 'believed' or were smart enough to read visions or hidden messages etc.

Back waaaay up on this. So God creates the universe. Waits at least 10 billion years.
Earth is formed, God waits for about 4.5 billion years.
A mere 2000 years ago he finally decides to pay attention to this little speck of a planet, orbiting a regular star, in a back eddy galaxy.
THEN sends his son to this ONE little planet to save his flawed creation? That is why the Jesus story makes no sense to me.
"Of all the gin joints, in all the worlds, in this universe...he walks into mine."

Reopened Mind: Well that's cool...didn't know you and TotallyADD were married. Funny being "first lady of the congregation"....I observed that mentality in a few congregations. Being the PO wife seemed to include being the leader for other sisters. How did that title make you feel? Did you like it?

Interesting thoughts undercover. Never looked at the baptism vs marriage age discrepancy.
If I recall I was 17. Don't recall overwhelmingly feeling the WANT to, but rather the NEED to because I was almost done high school. All the good kids got baptized before they finished school...the sooner the better. Nutty.

Hmmm, I will have to use Psalms 16:11 as a proof text next time some Bible beater wants to make a sin out of self pleasure.
LOL kurtbethel...I'd like to see you use that one.
My absolute favorite is "He loved us so much, he came!"
laverite...yeah mine too. Here's a similar one...

Did You Tend To Question The Organization Or Did You Just WANT To Believe?
by minimus ini know some who always questioned the elders, the society, and others because they were typically skeptical.. there are those who just seemed to want to believe whatever they were told.. i was more a skeptic, during my last decade.. .

Think I'm intrinsically a skeptic and resistant to authority. Just took too long in letting it loose to question the WTBS. But recall having doubts and questions as early as 12 or 13. Buried them for a long time.
What is great about this forum is that all of us who've seen thru the JDub BS are rare breeds. We're skeptics, deep thinkers, resistant to conformity. Vast majority of people are just Sheeple...follow the herd mentality.
We're the Resistors of Constriction...the Renegades of Funk. Something like that.

Wow...we have some old superstars in the JW world. leavingwt and gayle were bethelites. cantleave, TotallyADD, designs, minimus...all elders. Though designs says "two star elder"...what is that out of? 2 out of 5... or...2 out of 10?
blondie, ambersun: True that as sisters you didn't have far to climb. I knew some elder's wives that held some sort of "higher" position over other sisters in the cong. Like they had the extra pressure of being an example to the rest. Some elder's wives assumed too much on themselves and were a real pain in the ass.
prophecor: Yeah that doesn't make any sense. Asked to read in the book study before baptism, but not after? And replaced by a sister? Very odd. I don't ever recall a sister reading.
Wontleave: sounds like you had a skeptical, fight the authorities spirit right from the get-go. Think I always had those feelings but suppressed them far too long. Wish I had let them flourish sooner.
All in all, any status I felt I think came from peer approval. Pounded into our heads over and over to do more, be more. When you did and were recognized for it, that developed a false sense of accomplishment. Sad really....feeling proud of handing a mic around? Lame.
Would anyone count their answers? Remember feeling the pressure to answer at least once....but when you got 3 or 4 or 5...you were rockin'.

So what were your biggest JW accomplishments as a rank & file? Curious as to what level you climbed the R&F ladder while in the Org, OR if you still are in.
Did you regular pioneer, or auxiliary pioneer? Bethel? Become an MS or elder? The wise and mature sister? What privileges did you get: mic handling, magazine counter, etc? Answered every meeting, eager to clean the hall, sang your heart out to the Kingdumb Melodies?
Did you feel a sense of status with your accomplishments?
Highest I climbed was receiving privileges such as mic handling, magazine counter, circuit assembly ministry school talks, assembly stage attendant, auxiliary pioneered just twice, read for the Watchtower and Book Studies, got to help baptize a wheelchair confined sister…was rather proud of that one. Might've been close to MS at one point…but then I went bad ("I kissed a girl, and I liked it") and had a judicial committee.
I used to think I was carrying myself humbly running mics or magazine counter. But deep down, it made me proud or cocky…"look at me everyone, I'm doing so good right? You look up to me right? I'm kick ass!"
So keeners…how high did you climb the ranks?
