That wasn't Jimmy Stewart, but Henry Fonda playing the lead in Mister Roberts.
Thanks poppers for catching my slip...indeed Henry Fonda. I'm not in good form on this thread...earlier typed Peter Fonda when I meant Henry.
Favorite scene in Mister Roberts gotta be the final one, with Lemmon tossing the palm tree over...
" Captain, it is I, Ensign Pulver, and I just threw your stinkin' palm tree overboard! Now what's all this crud about no movie tonight? " -

Family Study parody on youtube - FUNNY!

Hilarious. The phone call during the family study brought up a memory of our family study of the Watchtower. I had built a quarter pipe for BMXing. School kids knew about it and showed up DURING family study. Knocked on the door and asked to use it. "Yeah go ahead...I'll be out real soon."
I was so anxious to join them. For the rest of the study I could see them riding it out the window. The study outlasted their stay, they left before we were done. It was AGONIZING. And I swear, that was the longest family study my father ever held.

Atheism: Evidence (Part I)
by leavingwt infrom youtube user evid3nc3.
(the full playlist of this video series is here: why i am no longer a christian.).
i lay the philosophical groundwork for my epistemological position of evidentialist foundationalism by contrasting it with the first principles journey of the rationalist descartes.. .

Brilliant. Thanks for posting leavingwt. I thought QualiaSoup was some of the best YouTube had to offer, but hadn't seen any Evid3nc3 vids yet. Great stuff.
I had a recent personal experience that demonstrated the ease of which we can be fooled by misremembering and misperception. Especially when coupled with emotional susceptibility.Also...gotta like the "Luke, I am your father / No, I am your father" reference. Most people quote the former.

Re: Jack Lemmon....anyone remember Mister Roberts, also starring Jimmy Stewart and James Cagney? He was great in that...essential Lemmon fan material.
Also...just realized I typed Peter Fonda earlier....not Henry Fonda. Though Peter is good too.

Your View of Holidays and Their Origins
by headisspinning ini am very curious about something... for those of you who have left the organization but still follow the bible and consider yourself christian... what holidays and celebrations have you embraced?.
how do you rationalize celebrating despite your knowledge of 'pagan' origins?.
i was born and raised a jw so it would seem really strange for me to start celebrating christmas or hallowe'en or easter - maybe mother's or father's day wouldn't be such a stretch - but i would really like to hear your thoughts and the conclusions you've come to.. but i have to say i never got a satisfying answer as to why jws aren't allowed to celebrate birthdays - the explanation that it promotes greed or selfishness or that the only record in the bible of birthday celebrations involved murder - none of these really cut it for me.. thanks - his .

At first it was a little strange. But that is to be expected when one spent most their life not celebrating.
For me the word pagan is meaningless. Only reservations I have is knowing it is pandering to the capitalist machine. "You must buy this and that, on this date because we say so and everyone is doing it." Other than that, it's just a bunch of fun. Life's too short.
