  i'm quite new to this site, & have realised some members have a union jack symbol under their avatar.

  i don't.. could we have a "show of hands" from any uk members?

  i must confess to 'lurking' occasionally for several years on this site - purely because i am bone idle and spend most of my day writing with work.

  many of the posts are really funny, moving or both and very well written so thanks to all who contribute.. as can no doubt be seen by my inability to recognise that maybe having your own name as a username may not be the best of ideas (i don't have anything to hide but even so - it does reveal a complete lack of imagination), i have not posted to any forum before as far as i can remember.

  my story is at least as 'entertaining' as some others on here and when i get the time will right it down if only as another warning for all the doubting jws that may read it.

  @james, hello mate, as cantleave suggests, look at exjw-reunited, its a UK site with many members in yorkshire, (were ever that is) --i'm on the i o Wight!

  Creative Days, How Long?

  i really don't know where the wt is on creative days now, they used to be 7000 years long but now seem to be un-named fudged "thousands of years".

  this immediately starts to put the fossil record into a more sane place until you realise that adam ius still believed to be created in c4026 bce.. so we have fossil records going back almost unarguably into geological timescales, oil (from living things) miles below the surface of the earth.

  coal (fossilised trees) also far below the surface of the earth but man 6000 years old aprox.. no wonder we aren't hearing much on the creative days.. s f.

  when i was a teenage jw back in the late 60's, everyone was into 1975, using this 7000year day nonsense; i even asked a district servant to explain it to me, only to be told its all in the literature. So what!

  No-one could ever prove to me the 7000 year bit, the best advice given to me was to have faith. in what?

  just because it may be 6oooish years from adams alleged creation to some year in the 1970's does not prove the earth is flat, or a "creative day" is xxxx years long.

  the only faith that works for me is if i live to be 100, armageddon will still be a silly threat to frighten the gullible.

  i am going to put together a page of short experiences of how shunning has affected exjws.

  you do not have to be disfellowshipped, even if you were shunned after being marked or after fading.

  all comments are welcome, such as who shunned you, how long since family have spoken to you, what your situation is, why you are being shunned and how it has made you feel.

  @ boyzone: referring to the letter you posted above.

  you mention " lois" & wootton. i lived there 1999-2003, & i imagine the lois you mention lived near me , on M--- R---avenue, if so i knew her as a kid & her parents, then in Shanklin 1971-80.

  my family of jw's live in shanklin & have shunned me completely since the mid 80's. i have grandchildren i have never met. ( for the rest-of -the world they are 8 miles away)

  when i was a jw in 1970's here on the isle of wight UK, the ratio of jw's to local population was approx 1:300, whereas the "national" figure (then )was 1:850

  i know lots of jw's over here who have left, so would think the apostasy ratio must be high.
